If your portable AC stinks too then this is the video for you. My BLACK+DECKER 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner stinks. I just cleaned it out and now it's running ice cold and smells a lot better. Removing pet odor can be tough. Watch this video to clean out your AC and dramatically reduce the smell. This technique should work for all kinds of smells.
This unit is the BLACK+DECKER BPT10WTB 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner. It says it is the Portable Air Conditioner with Heat (10,000 BTU SACC/CEC) (14,000 BTU ASHRAE) I bought it used and am still testing it out. So far it is Awesome! It puts out 64 degrees and really feels amazing in my garage. Now that I got the smell cleaned out I love it!
Last year we bought a BLACK+DECKER BPACT08WT Portable Air Conditioner, 8,000 BTU. This AC is Awesome! My wife keeps it upstairs in her home office. For most rooms the 8,000 BTU version is great and it's cheaper too.

The only thing that you must do is shorten the hose! The hot air stream should have the shortest way out, that means that the outlet must be as horizontal as possible and slightly upwards! I've cleaned mine by taking the front of to and all the air ducts inside as well! All the black inners i've washed in the dishwasher! The evaporater and the condensor could be cleaned this way 'against the airstream' which is better to clean them up to newstate! I've got dog's too! (6)😊. But still interesting video, I never thought of that leaf blower! Great idea to dry it next time I clean it!

Thanks! Great cleaning tips too! I was thinking of building a stand for it so that the rear vent would sit even with the window vent. That would shorten the hose too. The hose is pretty bulky and gets in the way sometimes. A nice cabinet to put it on would fix that.

This technique seemed to work pretty good. But there is still a slight smell. I have seen some AC foam cleaners. I was thinking of trying one of them out too. They say no rinse. You just spray it on the coils and let it sit for 15 min then you wipe it off. I am thinking of getting some to test out and make another AC cleaning video.

I can guarantee you the blower wheel on the other side of the evaporator coil is just foul with mould and dust. If you open it up and look at it you would probable throw it away.

Thanks for the tip I will open it back up and look at it. I really don't smell anything anymore so I am hoping it's not that bad.

@@The_Shenangang I haven't had a chance to open it up and look. The AC is working great and doesn't smell anymore. So I am thinking it is fine but I am curious though and I want to open it up and look at it.

I am not sure I understand the question. At 10:05 I have taken off the back panel and I am cleaning the 2 grates on the back of the AC unit. At 21:10 I am blowing out the front vent. Are you asking how to take off the front panel and clean out the vent on the front of the AC unit?

Just got a portable air conditioner. I attached the hose to the back to drain condensation. To my surprise it filled the small vase with water. I’ve only had it for 9 days. Should it have that much water deposited? Duh! I know nothing about it even though I read the manual several times. Question: how often should I clean the filter? Thank you. Interesting video.

The AC will circulate the water in the unit to cool the compressor. Most of it should evaporate. There are 2 drains on the back. The upper one is used to drain the water while it is in Dehumidify mode. The bottom one is used to drain the unit when you are done using it for the season. You should check your filters every 30 days to see how they look. They may only need to be cleaned every few months but it's a good idea to check them.

I bought one of the black and decker bpt08hwtb. It was brand new. There is no smell with the ac running , but when I turn the heat part on it smells like urine. If I run it on just fan I smell nothing. Very strange. I thought maybe it just needed to run, but it won't go away. Strange it's only on heat . If anyone comes across any information let me know.

Typically the funky smell is from some dust and it will burn off the heater after a while. So yeah that is kind of strange. You may want to open it up and see if something got in there. If everything looks good you could try a box of baking soda. I was thinking of trying it to see if it would absorb some of the funky orders that are still in my AC.

the bottom one is to drain but whats the upper hole for? are u supposed to put water in it? thanks

  • @ThatHobby

The upper hole is to drain the water out of the unit when you run it in dehumidify mode. In the dehumidify mode you will need to keep a hose attached to it to drain all the water it pulls out of the air. You don't need the drain house when you run it in AC mode though. The AC will circulate any moisture that's in the unit and use it to cool the compressor. The unit gets pretty hot when it is in AC mode and will evaporate most of the moisture that is in the unit.

I don't think you need to do that unless you are trying to get all of the water out to store it for the winter. Under normal use you should need to tilt it back to drain it.
