50-60k for a side by side is insane, just like 100k for a 1500 truck, I know there are the 1% that don't care how stupid these prices are, but these companies won't survive without average people being customers.

The four door side by sides always looked wrong to me. They are now the size of cars. So you have something with the wheelbase of a Wrangler/Bronco, the price of a Wrangler/Bronco, but not the convenience, comfort, or cargo space of a Wrangler/Bronco, all on a vehicle that is not street legal in most of the country.

  • @D3thM3tal

Having used and driven both the size comparison is misleading, the width of these machines is dramatically narrower than any "full size" vehicle and you can't touch the suspension compliance and capability out of the box of these machies. Convience and comfort are subjective - no road based vehicle wil ride anywhere as smooth as these units do on their tuned coilover suspensions. Cargo space comes with size, these are designed to go where fullsize vehicles don't - they offer quite a lot of storage options to bring anything you could ever want with you. It's a different market with different needs - it's not for everyone. They are selling as fast as they can build them, people are voting with their wallets.

@@D3thM3tal they fill the same niche that a kei truck does with less off-road ability, and construction/size wise they're like minitrucks and cj jeeps from 40 years ago. safety/emissions regulations and automakers' need to make everything mass-market have gotten us to the point where this niche is unaddressed. still, they look ugly and ungainly as heck and there are many trails where they don't have the ground clearance or articulation to proceed.

These are for wealthy land-owners who have $100k + pickups, so this $50k Fisher Price quality toy ain't no thing to them. I worked in the powersports industry until early 2020 and $30-35k was the top end price of a factory side by side, so prices have crept up significantly. This thing seems louder than the Ranger Northstar and I think it's because this SUV style cab allows all the engine noise from under the cargo area to reverb through the entire interior. That would get tiring very quickly.

It would be worth it when you consider it’s capabilities. However, the issue comes in that you’re going to need a $60K+ truck to tow it to trails in places where they’re not street legal. If you’re just using it for ranch work, then you still have to get it from the dealer to your home. When you factor in road trips and regular commutes, it makes more economic sense to just get a 2500 series truck and get an old, used ATV/UTV I used to love going on ATV rides with all my friends before I had my driver’s license. I’d love to do that again, but with how insane the prices are, it probably won’t be in the near future when you consider I need to buy a truck or vehicle capable of hauling it and I need to own a home to store it. I have a pretty decent job and no kids, but I need to plan around affording those other things first.

I bought a new base General 2 seater Ride Command Edition for a little over $20K in early '19. I have since added about $20K in upgrades and add-ons, (including a high-end plow system, & not counting the price of labor to install all of it). So when comparing it to this 4 seater, with post covid inflation in mind, the price isn't as insane as it first appears. (most other things have nearly doubled in price too)

If it cost $20k I could see it being somewhat popular among the middle upper class, but they've priced these things so high that they have to sell them for even more because of economies of scale and only ranchers could ever justify one of these, presuming they wouldn't just prefer to have a fleet of old wranglers.

And the best thing about this is after only a few thousand miles you need to rebuild the whole engine because Polaris.

If it was a 6×6 it might have been worth that price tag!

5:16 it looks very...top heavy with small wheels. and calling that shelf in the back "luxury" is more than a stretch. Really weird that we've gotten to this point- where ever increasing regulations for on-road vehicles, and the consequent need to sell into the soccermom market to make it all worthwhile, have gotten so far beyond what a simple 4x4 used to be that we end up embiggening ATVs to fill the void.

Seeing as you need to have something to tow this thing, just buy an actual rig.

It would be cool to have one, but at $60k fully loaded that, that’s insane. Only the rich would buy something like that. IMO, needs more power.

Very expensive for something that its illegal on the road, you could pay to make it legal. A old Jeep its a better option.

But not as quiet and has a body made like a power wheels. My 2020 ranger is the last machine that’s not Japanese I’ll ever own due to things breaking that Polaris hasn’t improved in years.

These things are getting all of our offroad trails closed throughout the country. See what just happened in Moab UT, and what is happening in the Mojave in CA. Why draw more attention to them? Side by sides are swarming all over the trails in Colorado and Arizona too, and the drivers everywhere drive like nutjobs--they all think they are racing the baja 1000.
