    @@skylarbee-gm9gm What on earth are you talking about? All carp in North America are invasive. All carp originate from asia, that's where all of them are from. It may not be illegal to release in some states, I don't know enough to say all states follow that, but I do know they're invasive, and ecologists are desperate to stop them, especially before they spread to the great lakes.

    If you use bells, you should hang something between the last 2 largest rod eyes like a stick or a glow stick. If a fish picks up your bait and swims towards you, the bell will not ring. You will not notice the fish if you do not hang something to see. It's called a "drop back bite".

    You shouldn't rerelease carp! Even if they aren't one of the more dangerous Asian species, no carps are native to North America. Many of the states that have a requirement to kill Asian carps just say all carps. However, it does seem like Massachusetts is not one of the states with a kill order. But for everyone else, check your local laws. These animals are extremely harmful to local and native wildlife

  • @NickSmith-fe7lp

    @NickSmith-fe7lp

    Жыл бұрын

    @@kirbe5039 as someone who was highly dedicated in environmentalism earlier in my life, I can explain, or at least provide sources that can explain better than me First off, "permanent migration" is not really a thing. Instead what happens is a new species comes into the habitat, changes it to fit their needs, then the habitat moves on. There's very few cases where an invasive species doesn't alter the preexisting environment However, that doesn't mean it can't change. Some habitats have adopted certain non-native species in, essentially making them a part of the system. I don't have any examples off the top of my head, but it would be very unlikely for this not to have happened The biggest issue with invasive species comes with humans, when we take one animal and put it somewhere else. Most of these events have happened way too recently for the habitat to have adopted the species. Some of the best ways to combat this are A) manually trapping and killing each species or B) introducing more of a native predator (called biocontrol) Now, the problem with carp specifically? Well, as the National Park Service of Mississippi says: "Invasive carp cause serious damage to the native fish populations in the lakes and rivers that they infest because they out-compete other fish for food and space. Carp are also thought to lower water quality, which can kill off sensitive organisms like native freshwater mussels." This includes all carp, not just the Asian species. However, as the NPS notes, silver carp are one of the worst However, unlike other invasive species that could be caught with traps and killed with poison, we can't do that with fish because, well, we don't want to poison the Mississippi River. So instead, certain barriers have been established along the river and its tributaries, meant to prevent the carp from making it further up the stream. These themselves won't kill the carp, which is why we need fishermen to go and personally kill them, thus why so many states have a kill order for all carp species

    @@NickSmith-fe7lp that doesn't really explain why it is something that we should worry about after all it is a part of nature, and before you say anything about human involvement, humans are apart of nature just like any other animal therefore a human introducing a new species into a habitat wouldn't be unnatural by definition.

  • @NickSmith-fe7lp

    @NickSmith-fe7lp

    @@kirbe5039 that's such a bad reasoning. "It's part of nature that an animal was taken halfway across the world". Bullshit, and you know it, yet you don't admit it So what, all extinctions caused by humans is "part of nature"? Every time humans have killed off a species, that's just nature at work? No, that's not how it works And you know what? Even if it was, why shouldn't we try and save the species and the environment? Why should we just let it die by our own hands? We aren't a part of nature, or at least an equal part. We created nature in our heads, defined it as we do all other things. We are higher up than the old natural order, which is why we must not only protect it, but preserve it Your whole argument falls apart the second someone actually thinks it through. The only people who claim "we are part of nature, therefore everything we do is natural" are either children or people highly uneducated on sustainability and environmentalism

    Someone long ago shared a fantastic carp recipe, I highly recommend it! All you need is a board and a nail. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees (F). You want to NAIL the carp to the board (as in, hammer and nail it), doesn't really matter which end I guess but through the head has always worked for me. Pop the thing in the oven for an hour, or until tender. Once ready, you toss the carp and nail, and eat the board. Yum!

But i might try actually targeting them purposely sometime. Its interesting being on my paddle board in a secluded quiet bay on the lake, because every like 5 to 10 seconds theres a splash somewhere from a carp jumping. There has to be quite literally millions of them in some of the larger lakes in my area.
