Most times when I've replaced a belt, I've definitely needed to replace the idler pulley. I'm at the point now that when I pull a worn out pulley (like the one you have), the customer is going to need a new belt. BK

I have never had a broken belt, and wondered if I should be replacing them. Now I can sleep better at night. Did not know they where so tough.

I have replaced the drum rollers twice in the last year they are getting chewed up, tonight I replaced the rear drum felt, installed new drum rollers and installed and new belt, the last belt lasted a few months. I ran the dryer for 30 minutes and went to check it and the drum wasn't turning...grrr tore it back apart and the new belt was broken. So, I ordered another belt and a new motor pulley fingers crossed that it will work this time around cause after this I don't what else to do. I have replaced thermal fuse (no heat) in the last year the dryer is only a few years old and I am determined to get another 5 to 10 years out of it.

What if the pulley is in good shape? We are going through belts at least every 3 months.

PLEASE HELP! My old (25 years) Maytag Dryer was working perfectly until I took it apart to clean the interior and decided to lubricate things with WD-40 - mistake! Shortly thereafter the dryer began to whine so loudly that I couldn't bare the noise. I bought a (clearly non-OEM) parts kit for my model - 2 back wheels w/new shafts, 2 front gliders and a new belt. Immediately after installing the kit, the new belt melted in two at the motor shaft. Maybe I threaded the belt incorrectly...but I assure you that I watched a ton of videos so I think I did it correctly. QUESTION 1. What is the correct way to thread the belt around the idler pulley and motor shaft? (I heard that the threading diagram may be printed on the inside back panel?... but I haven't found it yet. QUESTION 2. What else would cause the belt to sit idle while the motor shaft spins past it until the heat of friction melts the belt in two? The mess of black particles in your video are exactly what was present around my broken belt but more concentrated below the motor shaft. Perhaps there wasn't enough tension on the belt because I threaded it the wrong way? Perhaps the tension arm/pulled is faulty (not supplying enough tension)? Maybe the back wheels I replaced are not spinning freely enough? (I didn't replace the shafts for the back wheels...I just replaced the wheels and noticed they stopped spinning pretty quickly when I gave them a hand-spin).

Hmmm…. I just replaced the belt (pain in my ass), then tension pulley, and drum rollers…. Sounds like new. HOWEVER i smell a funny smell… I am not sure if it the new parts or if dust got in heating element or what. While it is running I lifted the top to see if I could see what was going on… if course I can only see drum but it looks like it has a itty bitty wobble. Running fine and no codes… WTH?

God dont ever call a "tech" to fix a dryer. For one, you can go buy a whole new dryer for a tad more than what he said it would cost for him to fix this issue. And more importantly, this is so so simple to fix yourself and requires zero experience. Literally anyone who can spin a screw driver can fix this in 30 minutes. Dryers are so simple to take apart and so simply designed
