This Opal HURTS MY EYES!
I stabilize and cut some of the most beautiful opal that I have ever seen. This is Ethiopian opal that normally cracks completely. I have worked on a method of preventing cracks for months. I have had some success, but I am not yet to a point where I can rely on it or share my technique yet. (I cannot share something that is incomplete!) I hope to get it perfected in the coming months. I cut and polish 5 stones - quickly and the results will --- HURT YOUR EYES!

Paco Would love to get the stone. As a married grad student I can't really give my spouse any sparkling rocks of particular value. Only ones from rambling youtubers.
So curious minds want to know; what was the miracle elixir that saved the the cracking opals? By the way number four was definitely the most beautiful.

Pulitzer Opal Well in my opinion you're on to something very interesting. As I've said before it's almost like magic. The colors that appear are just beautiful. I'm really partial to the green with the bits of red in them. Keep up the good work, and have a great day.

@@PulitzerOpal I was just teasing, but if it ends up working well couldn't it change the whole Ethiopian opal industry? I am a little slow so maybe not, we'll just have to see what happens. Riley might send a goon squad to hit your kneecaps instead of an opal parcel

@@PulitzerOpal I'm a mineral collector interested in stabilizing unpolished Welo opal with matrix still attached, not a big fan of highly polished material. I noticed all specimens in this video were polished. Does this method work to any degree on rough? I've seen opticon treated rough Welos on opalauctions but I have no idea of the seller's method, or other types of resin used.
Paco is truly a Man on Fire! Gosh, your zany humour is a precious as these opals. Thanks again for another fun video!
Paco! You are always entertaining and informative. Thanks
Not sure I want both my eyes knocked out, I kinda need them, especially since I can only see proplery these days with one, while the other is significantly less able after 7 operations. Man On Fire is a beauty, Mr Paco...I mean Mr Pulitzer :-)

@Jeffrey Foltice Heck, it's worth a shot. I'm not Herr Pulitzer, nor am I Paco, but I will catalog your suggestion for my own future experiments. I've got glorious, GLORIOUS I tell you, desert carved/polished agates and chalcedony that are near perfect. If those wee cracks could be seamlessly and durably filled, perfection will be attained. I've also got big chunks of common translucent/transparent and dendritic opal that could use something that isn't opticon. I've got so many damn rocks...

I've heard you must let cool slowly bcuz of the heat that is created in the stone from grinding. But when I seen a video on this. You never really know. The man just rolled over the cracks and let bbn it slowly cool and sit for a c ok please weeks more. It was a beauty. I'm seeing a lot of honeycomb patterns in Ethiopian opal. I truly think we are at that point of where the Ethiopia opal. Is thriving and booming. There not just selling chips anymore if you know what I mean. Thanks for the video

Awesome 👌. Beautiful presentation. Beautiful rocks.
PACO Love your passion for Opals, keep it up, and may 2021 shine's on us like those gems just did !
This is non-hydrophane type Welo opal. It’s mined wet and will typically craze upon drying out. I display mine in freshwater aquarium to preserve them well. Ethiopia also has great production of gem grade Hydrophane opals that don’t have this crazing (cracking) issue. Great video! Not much documentation is available on this non-hydrophane type opal. Very cool stuff! 😎🤙
