@@nointro, Lucky to own a corner home. Cutting lawn diagonally has become a tradition catching people's eye enough to begin experimenting on their own. Best of all It still has yet to catch on with common local landscapers. Now blowing unbagged grass clippings and debris into street, that's more their speed rather than paying to go dump it. And it has become all too obvious If hired groundskeepers knew the least bit things about trees, they would be called arborists. In fact It's about time customers start charging landscapers after weed whacking & scarring chunks of tree bark rather than breaking out Grandpa's handheld grass clippers giving lawn a more manicured look around base of stately young tree trunks.
I love my lawn and struggled for years , but following Rob has transformed my lawn he is a legend in lawn care in my opinion 👍🏻

Exactly how most people are clueless about grass. Mowing style and regime is the most important thing. Only knowledge and experience can help with this. It takes many many years of practise.. Again the same time with treatments. People think they can read a book or buy a product, and hey presto they are a lawn expert! I've been mowing over 20years and treating over 10 years. I'm still learning every month.. Then there is the weather 😊🌱🌱🌱. I'm not a mechanic, plasterer, electrician or computer technician. I wish people would not diy lawns as they totally ruin them more often than not. - there are professionals and handymen! Happy lawn creating guys. Have a peaceful and prosperous 2022. Thanks Robbie, my lawn is a rich green colour but uneven in length, for the last 6 weeks or so it has rained at sometime every day as a result the ground is wet not soggy but because the frequency of the rain it does not have enough time to start to dry out. I would like to to give it a trim but I am concerned about damage I could cause by running my Hayter rotary mower with a roller over the lawn. The plus point is that there is no sign of moss, the lawn is either green or the brown of the soil shows through. I have been applying Daniel Hibberts products which seems to have prevented the moss appearing.

A couple of pro tips from the States: Certainly agree with the narrator, 1/3 rule is a certain benefit. Be able to identify the best species of grass for your geographical area. In the US Mid-Atlantic turf type tall fescue hybrids work best. For tall fescues maintain your cutting height at a three inch minimum. This helps choke out weeds and reduces evaporation. Different species thrive with different cutting heights. (ie Bermuda grass can be maintained quite low.) Very important to sharpen the blades. This will help reduce weeds and insects, and keep down lawn treatments. Also sharp blades improve the look of your finished cut. Absolutely discharge clippings back into the lawn. This will provide needed nitrogen for the soil, and reduce the need for watering. If clippings clump up (unlikely with 1/3 rule) follow up with a rake or leaf blower to disperse the cuttings. These tips were passed to me from some very competent agronomists. After 35 years in the landscape trade I wanted to stress; enjoy your time outdoors. However do not get lost in a lawn planted in grass. Please include wildflowers to attract native pollinators, native trees and shrubs to support your local wildlife, and avoid pesticides when you can. Happy trails, Kirk

@Wedge53
2 жыл бұрын
@@rodrigodelagarza3621 decomposition quickly returns grass cliipings into the soil. Certainly not a problem if you are following 1/3 Rule.
If you want to mow the grass when it is wet but it is no rain in the forecast for the day then you can "squeegee" the lawn with the yard brush in the morning. This will remove most of the dew from grass blades and then you can mow it in the late afternoon mostly without issues.

Another great video, Robbie. Curious as to the reason why you're not a fan of the automowers - wouldn't they be perfect for the "little and often" way of cutting grass? With a traditional mower, I might only get out to cut the lawn once a week (thereby having to take a bigger cut) whereas with an automower, it could be programmed to cut every day and in doing so, only take a very small cut? Thanks for your advice.
Ok so most of us aren’t out mowing our lawn every weekend. If applied the 1/3 rule, the grass is likely still too long. So in that instance, how much time is required between doing a second cut to get the grass lower? Thanks

Hey Rob, what do you think of robotic mowers? Surely they dont stripe anywhere near as good as a cylinder mower, but from my experience it helps me when I am not able to maintain my mowing schedule. Another thing to mention when mowing is surely to not trust the height adjustment printed on the mowers - my mower goes down to 25mm on the 35mm setting - so rather double check by just mowing a small patch first than risking scalping everything. :)
@Premier_lawns_official

Robo mowers are the future unless you want stripes. The best way to measure the height of cut is to use a ruler or tape measure and drop it into the lawn

@@Premier_lawns_official If we only had grass like that in India, I'd always remember to only take the top third!
It can be satisfying when you mow your lawn to see a ton of clippings in the bag: "yeah, I've done a great job there". But look instead for a fairly small amount of clippings - then you know you've only taken off a wee bit.

Very true!
Hi Robbie, I'm currently starting a full lawn renovation in my property. I have watched loads of your videos to give me a good starting point, I've cored, scarified, topdressed and seeded. Now with the typical British springtime weather and a little help from sprinklers I should start to see seeds germinate within the next 10 days. My plan is to use a foliar feed of ammonia sulphate for nitrogen as well as to lower soil pH as the POA weed grasses are unbelievable and there's way too many to dig out, I missed out the pre emergent but I will be applying it in the fall to try to stop them next year. So my plan is iron sulphate every 6 weeks or so until October as well as ammonia sulphate for nitrogen. Could you please give me and ideas on a good general all purpose lawn feed that I can use in-between these foliar feeds to put down the other very much needed micro and macro nutrients as these 2 chemicals only add iron and nitrogen. Thanks for your help Robbie. Keep up the good content 👍

Are you in the UK, of so there aren't any pre emergence you can use. Get your seeds off to a good start and mix in some seaweed once a week too
Happy New Year to everyone!!! I hope you all had a fantastic festive season with loads of laughter! My lawn is still covered under a nice blanket of snow and i am sure I will have some snow mold…any tips are welcomed! But look forward to the new season too! Leveling and a new reel mower will be the highlights!

Hi! So, if i do the 1/3 rule, but my lawn is a bit overgrown is areas (need to start a good routine!), then so i only cut 1/3 and leave it, and cut the next day 1/3 more? How can i even out / get my lawn to the desired height followingg the 1/3 rule. What schedule should i mowe it? IMPORTANT: i mowe usingn a hand roto-trimmer. Just so you have all the relavant info! :) Thanks! Live the vid, hoping to make my gardens lawn look as beautiful as yours!!
It's easy in the UK to have a great lawn with all that rain.
Nice one Robbie quick question if your grass is long and you cut 1/3 when can you take the next 1/3 off without stressing the lawn?

David if time allows a couple of days, every now and again say you go on holidays and the lawn is like a hay field and you need to reduce it down you can break the one-third rule the odd time. We all live in the real world

Our lawn is not level. It has pockets here and there and is very uneven. What are the best tips for 1/3 rule when the grass length varies so much?
Hi there, I’m all new in lawns. I have the seeds and soil . And lawn food. I added the lawn food and the seed and the soil. Some parts are lovely greeny and others totally deserted. What can I do?
Does fertilizer spread to areas that Wasnt treated? Reason im asking is because i did my side lawn and its growing great but i also noticed the other side of my lawn is better then last year
1/3 rule is a good one. However, as a parent i don’t always have time to cut my lawn. I primarily cut it (when i have time) to keep the weeds in check. Maybe when the kids are older i can maintain better. Do you have any tips for people in my position?

Life is for living, enjoy it 🙏😁 Try and follow the one third rule when you can and your lawn will get better without doing anything else If you have to break it, don't sweat it. It's only grass 🌱💚
Cheers Robbie. How is mulching supposed to improve a lawn? Doesn’t mulching also encourage thatch build up?
@Premier_lawns_official
2 жыл бұрын
That will depend on the type of grass and what you are cutting it with and how often Go onto any local council site, parks even by the road. How much thatch is on that grass? I bet they aren't lifting the grass.
To reduce overall height when can you mow it again after taking off the first third?
To get the length of lawn down from long to short, and following the one third cut rule, how soon after the first trim can I cut the next third off and so on until I get to the lawn height I'm after? thanks

Chris, the shorter it is cut the more often it needs cut. Take a golf green, it's cut every day at a height of 3-5mm A lawn that has been fertilised, you might be cutting it every 5 - 10 days, an average lawn might only get cut every 14 days. Cutting heights for something like this might be 25-50mm A lawn that never gets any attention that might be even more. 80mm It depends on what you are cutting it with and the height of cut.
