    I expect it would be impossible to prove it was done on purpose. They would probably argue that it was removed during fault diagnosis and that their technician simply forgot to replace it when the customer declined to take them up on the repair.

    @@jairiske no, under European laws this is illegal… it’s basically purposefully damaging other peoples property. (The hard thing is proving it in a legal sense, although the chip being missing makes it a strong piece of evidence…. Combined with the LCD working just fine. Its so normal that official repair center dont know anything about repairing. They dont repair, they swap parts. . Afterall you are repairing at this case consoles. Really like what you are doing. Keep up the good work.

  • @DeshraD

    @DeshraD

    3 жыл бұрын

    I'm going to play devil's advocate here, with the mass volume of repairs that official repair centers get, it's easier and more cost effective for them to swap the parts necessary to fix it, and have those parts sent in for a more detailed repair, if it's cost effective to do so. In other cases sometimes the repair is nothing more than swapping a part since that part cannot be repaired. Example here is switch joycon joysticks/ switch light joysticks. You can try to repair them by replacing the PCB but the metal housing easily becomes deformed and thus replacing them is just easier.

    Honestly to me it sounds less like they mistook the screen protector for a broken screen, and more like they intentionally yanked an important display chip in order to justify charging more for a screen replacement. Just look at that serrated solder, that's not something that was accidentally blown off with a heat gun. That chip was ripped off. =/

    When I was in the military we would use a special type of soldiering paste for our ultra fine detailed jobs it is still amazing to me how the soldier would almost always only bond to the contacts and only the ones that were touching when you were using it. Sometimes it was so easy to use that we would get into trouble because we would use it for jobs that didn't need it and at that point in time it was almost 50.00 per tube and each tube was only about one ounce. Now you can get it for much less and it is better quality than when I was using it.

So, tech is told to stop, slaps it all together and ships it back with incomplete work. I sure hope this was a case of shoddy workmanship rather than malice. Regardless, thanks for the video! Welcome my friend 😀 I'd say just find some dead boards and practice your soldering. QFN, QFP and surface mount are the main things you'll need to practice. Other than that just possibly find as many videos on different problems that you can and study the different faults they have :)

    For Nintendo it creates a new sale. Maybe the employees also get a bonus for each removed chip. I wouldn't be surprised if they make repaired boards to break soon so it'll trigger new sale from the same customer. More sales for a highly overpriced tablet

  • @leonro

    @leonro

    3 жыл бұрын

    I don't think employees get a bonus for removing the chip, that'd be too on the nose and would put Nintendo at risk, but they may be rewarded based on the money made on the repair or something. This leads to employees who may want to make a quick profit and sabotage the console so they can "fix" more. And Nintendo won't do anything about it since they don't need to prove that they didn't damage a device that's out of warranty. As you said, this usually leads to a new sale, so it makes them happy for their repair employees to damage the products that were sent in while they avoid any liability.

  • @TheCod3r

    The port would stick out of the case, so that wouldn't work. The switch port is longer than the lite port so the only way to do it properly is grinding the port

    I'm inclined to believe the customer to be honest. My policy is i don't charge for prior repair attempts so I don't think the customer would have any reason to lie about whether they had messed with it. I do know for certain it had been to Nintendo though, so I do believe it happened at their repair center
