Agreed, viper and astra is just 2 controller based on teammates which doesn't work on soloq at all.

*as a solo controller. If you have an Omen/Brim already it's free real estate. The only thing I'll say is to not do that wall A short, no one will know how to play around it.

9:40 I can recall a counter to the post plant Viper's Pit towards CT on A. I do not remember what team did this against NRG, but when NRG took A site, before FNS activated the exact same Viper's Pit, there was a fast 3 man flank so they would not have to go through CT.

massive props to the guard for accomplishing what they've set out to do and successfully securing a franchising spot. they've definitely proven that they have what it takes to be the best of the best and i cant wait to watch them deservedly compete againsty the best teams in the world.

FINALLY! The Guard are my favorite valorant pro team ever since they 13-0ed 100Thieves and won against C9 on IceBox. Their games are always so fun to watch, it's good to know they're making a comeback :))

I just recently scrimmed against a similar comp for this. It works wonders if your team can capitalize on it. But they didnt have the full discipline needed. This was a Diamond-Immortal game so not totally braindead players lol.

Viper works on any map. She is a very versatile agent. Other than being a controller, she is an excellent lurking agent and she even be a great sentinel as well.

if you push long as a defender you're stuck and will probably only get one before traded. This is assuming you don't just get destroyed by Guard's skye utility they use to reclear long. The wall is in the middle of lobby so attackers can be behind it OR in front so since it isn't covering the actual door you can't use it to push up since it doesn't cover you, only them. If you put multiple defenders long to circumvent the issue of being stuck then you're gambling that the attackers don't go elsewhere on the map or spot your trap. If they spot multiple defenders long then they can rotate to the weak site. and about retake from A long, that will never happen because Guard don't use this wall to 5 stack short, they still split from long and short. It's just so they can apply pressure and waste enemy utility without pulling rotates and beat timings.

Everyone when they see a viper on haven: you’re trolling When they see pros do it: wow so smart Note: there’s a reason why most people don’t like viper on haven cuz you need a second controller which almost every player aren’t willing to do it and smoking off A site is hard with heaven being open unless u have orb lineups but she is good in rank tho just need so comms and team coordination

Because the vipers in ranked don't know what they're doing. What you see in this video is the result of months of planning and coordination, it cannot be achieved in ranked. The only thing you can do is lurk setups to play solo because then you don't need to rely on anyone but yourself.

Viper in general won't be played to its best potential in most elo because as you said it requires teamwork and proper comms, combine it with a 2nd controller on a solo queue game its even harder to be in sync

it is a troll pick, these are pro plays, plays that have been practiced in different scenarios etc(info, clearing angles, retake plays. In comp no way people are that coordinated.

it's kind of a troll pick even in like immortal too if you're solo queueing. Stuff like this just needs alot of coordination to work. Thats why the guard can abuse viper like this, this kind of play becomes incredibly strong which proper coordination.

To those people who are here for solo queue tactics, viper or astra is no good without 5stack comms on. Play harbour at a little risk but not viper whose smoke wall cannot be replenished.

Astra is a fine solo q controller in my opinion. With five stack comms she's way better, but it can be managed as long as you have good game sense. You can smoke team onto site from across the map, clear a corner with util, etc all while you lurk through mid or spawn.

@@SpeedyTheGoddess yes, the only thing i do with astra is place star and chill the whole buy phase (on def), lurk while using stars, smoking for team with only looking at minimap when they need it, clearing corner with util is not possible for me, cause i have no experience on that, there are too many corners with many possibilities of their position T.T
