I would say the other way around good sir. Elden Ring DLC is already announced months before it's release. You can see how Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail pushed back Yoshi P saying its because of Elden Ring DLC. If big studio can push back releases, why wont smaller studios do the same? (Big studio pushing back release date is harder since they have a lot of shareholder and stuff to consider)

Yeah Souls-likes (Not official Souls) completely miss what make Souls games unique, it isn't dodging, circling around an enemy and attack timings. They aren't bad, but they feel completely devoid of the design philosophy of the source material. Also the creative design is kinda vague most times. Lies of P is an exception.

Something I've noticed about a lot of souls-likes is that their UI is very modern despite the time period/place they're set in. I'd love if they did some more with the UI to make it fit the theme of the game instead of it being preset-soulslike-ui-03

I totally get being inspired by Souls games, but most of them don't feel inspired at all, at least in more ways than not. Probably the series of games I wanna see reflected in other games most, but maybe more tastefully, maybe some reasons for it to exist alongside the inspiration material.

I wish there were more arcade style hack n slash games coming out alongside all these souls-likes. I do not have the patience, but love sword combat and getting 0 real hack n slash titles in the same vein as god of war (any and all), ninja gaiden or prince of persia, whilst not getting nice difficulty options in these style games, is actually painful.

If you spend the time to play and get through the early stages you'll be hooked. The difficulty curve of a souls game is like a U. Mid game is the easiest. Souls games have this amazing way of having you naturally improve while your character also simultaneously improves and by mid game you start to feel extremely good while your build comes online at the same time. Then by end game once you are fighting the late really difficult bosses all the skills you have built up compound to really challenge you.

There's plenty still coming out. Hi-Fi Rush was one of the biggest games of last year for example.

So this is like Italian Dark Souls where instead of healing with an Estus Flask, you heal with Capicola and you taunt every boss with a "Che vuoi?" hand gesture. Also that burp at 24:40 was diabolical.

On that attack that the parrying wasn't working, it looks like he hits charlie with the back of his staff while hoisting it up to swing if he's too close, maybe that's why the timing felt weird on it

The parry system needs you to hit the button a split second before the attack, not right when it hits you. With that said, poor Charley here didn’t think about blocking/parrying the tracking orbs

You should play Stray Blade. It's an interesting souls like with an immersive story with some fun challenge. Enemies only respawn in areas you clear, but when resetting your spawn, you don't regain the berries that act as an estus flask stand in. You can only regain healing items by dying or finding them growing off plants or dropped from enemies, and you only grow stronger by finding weapon blueprints to craft and master, then you use your skill points from leveling up to buy the skills and abilities you unlock.

hint: you can parry those homing orbs and gain free health, if you have the perk equipped.

Every Souls has its Dark, every Ring has its Elden and every Game has its Soul

indie and AA has something to offer w/ refreshing takes or mix genres. its rare since The Surge, Nioh, Remnant, LoTF, Crab Treasure, ... there's a way to take a break from the genre tho, its great there's more roguelikes mixed genre games to keep the masocore genre balance

Having to be at the right distance from your enemy to parry is interesting. i actually think that could be or is a cool mechanic.

@@donilexington4600 I'd say it's like getting DLC for your favorite game. You keep coming back because you love the exploration, the combat and the settings. Each Souls-like is like a DLC of Dark Souls. Same type of game just a new setting, new lore, and new challenge, with their own different twists on the formula. Literally could be applied to any genre of games. If you play an FPS it's going to have some very similar characteristics to other FPS games. Why keep playing them if you already played one? Well, because you like that FPS formula and want more variations of it.

My first Souls game was DS3. I knew nothing about it other than I was getting back into gaming and this was popular. I almost threw my controller everyday. I may try Lies of P now that I've gotten the concept of "only level is hard" games.

The only real issue I have so far is that *everything is too damn tanky* a priest should not feel like fighting Dragonslayer Armor

I’d love to see a soulslike where you can only get health by fighting kinda like bloodborne but no vials just pure aggression and add a whole combo system like a fighting game each weapon has their own different unique combos and each weapon type has their own base kit combos as well (I don’t know if sekiro did this I haven’t gotten the chance to play that one yet if sekiro did this I sound like a dumb ass lmao)
