Devious Machines Multiband X6 - The Swiss-Army Knife of Dynamics Processors
Пікірлер: 45
the multiband in the infiltrator 2 was already magic, so it doesn't surprise me that a multiband compression plugin came out :) ( sorry for the translation , im french ' )
If devious machines made it. Yes. I'm sure it's gonna be amazing much like UVI's Shade and other effects are
Really cool track also
picked it up yesterday. another dope offering from an amazing company
Thanks for this and your track is so good 👌
I would like it even more if one could change the compressor styles for each band but overall it seems very nice!

Yep...all parameters are global besides the 5 in the center
I guess the oversampling is there for handling any distortion introduced, as it generates harmonics that might fold back into the signal.
This is a really good review.I bought it to replace my DMG Multiplicity because of 0 latency but didn't realize it does that much.
LOVE UR CHANNEL
AMAZING
Thanks
Hey Dash, great video as always! Regarding the mix parameter, from my tests with the demo I understood that it afects only the compression amount, that's why it is so smooth. So if you are mastering a psy track in minimum phase and your bass sound changes because of the lowest frequency crossovers, that phase shift remains unchanged when you change the mix level, only the compression amount is affected. If I change the mix parameter in the Reaper FX window I still get drastic phase shifts as expected

Interesting! That's pretty awesome
will need to compare it with my pro audio dsp dsm
I love devious machine stuff. This one slipped past me 🧐 I want a good dynamic eq
interesting tool
hey @Dash Glitch, why would having oversampling on increase pre ringing? The amount of pre ringing is usually brough on by steeper Qs is it not?
@DashGlitch

oversampling usually entails anti-alias filters which are infact filters with steep Qs ;)

@@DashGlitch completely slipped my mind that's actually spot on 🤛
Great chanell, love your content. A couple of questions? 1. Why isnt all plugins with Lookahead? Is there any downside to it? like starting the song is delayed by 20ms because it needs to preload? 2. Why isnt all eq linear? is there any downside to linear? Help me get it =) And big thanks!

Yes, latency and how the plugin reports/deals with it to the DAW, and how well coded the filters are. The downside to linear-phase is pre/post ring, however here it's negligible due I think to the quality

I'd say most of the time the non-linear phase EQ is a better idea. Our ears are very sensitive to the pre-ringing and not so much to the phase shift if at all. The issue comes with when you mix two signals where one has been through a non-linear phase EQ and the other hasn't. At that point you'll start to hear unexpected and difficult to predict tonal changes as the signals cancel at certain frequencies. So rule of thumb: 99% of the time use non-linear phase. It's faster and better. But use linear phase if you are processing a signal through the multiband and mixing it in with the same signal processed through a different parallel chain of effects.

@@alienjim I agree with almost all of what you are saying, except when it comes to mix critical stuff in the low frequency. The Phase shift below 200hz tends to wildly alter the sound quite audibly and also changes the phase. With those kinds of elements, I tend to critically align the phase, specifically kick and bass. But I guess it depends on the type of stuff you're working with, if it's "club" music then it matters.
Just wondering, is it a big difference compared to kilohearts multipass and adding compressors? (trying to understand the differences :))

refer to the example at the end about linear phase and how transparent this plugin is

@@DashGlitch thanks :)
Can it be expander and compressors simultaneously? Compander
@gh0stransist0r
Жыл бұрын
apparently not which is a bummer. you can only select one type of processing for all the bands.
@DashGlitch

for it to be as transparent as it is, especially the mix, it seems a large amount of those settings need to be global. For phase response translation.
Can we define the width of the crossover bands? (12db, 24,db, 48db)
@DashGlitch

Yes, I guess I should have mentioned it, you can adjust the slopes
This or MA Fuse Compressor? I need replacement for Squasher.

Fuse looks nice but it doesn't have linear phase or lookahead, so I don't see it much different from OTT, except the amount of bands but that can be DIYed easily.
Great video! Can you please review Minimal Audio FUSE - Multi band comp next? It's new and I am between those two. It would be nice to compare them to see which one is "best". Thank you! CPU consumption info for broth would be nice too. (Fuse lighter for mixing and X6 for mastering?)
Mid side being global is a deal breaker. Shame.

I don't like the sound of the clap. It's too clappy.
Man honestly your video is good but come on, this can not be the Swiss army knofe of Dynamics processors, most of the parameters are Global, you can not define a band to be Mid, Side or Stereo, same with the sidechain, Mix Knob etc.... your tittle spunds biased or just you do not know what others Multiband can do.... the only 2 things are different and great and are also global are the 2 auto gain types and the Tilt.

Is there a plugin which is as transparent with those global features being per-band? I’d love to look into it

@@DashGlitch I love the sound of X6, but to be called Swiss Army a tool has to be very flexible and versatile... the Fabfilter MB does it all and is very transparent if that is what you are looking for...cleaner than X6....I like X6 actually because has a cool color
@DashGlitch

Weird, in my tests the FF has far more phase interaction/post-ring? When you say colour, do you mean visually? Because I’m pretty sure I showed how transparent the audio is?
