Nifty device! Works just like how a capacitor should. As an electrical apprentice, I should warn people that, as Scotty said, this won't help you if the battery is completely flat or extremely weak. There could also be some other side effect if the battery is shorted out, so be ABSOLUTELY sure that the battery itself is in good condition before trying to use this device, or else you could blow the electronics of the device, the battery itself, or, heaven forbid, the electronics of the car. Though I've never heard of a car's electronics short out from a shorted battery, I have seen it with a vehicle with a failed regulator in its alternator, which also caused the lead acid battery to literally explode. Scotty, if you read this, you should bring up this particular subject about regulators and alternators for this exact reason. It all started off innocently enough with numerous burnt out light bulbs, until eventually my father could hear the computer slowly died with little whistling sounds and little pops until one loud pop and the engine completely lost power. And that was that.

Scotty, Cheers to you! You have hit on the most stressful event drivers encounter when they least expected. A Dead battery. Most people look for a jump starter to carry around. It was this video that pointed me in the right direction. I never heard of a Super capacitor. I was searching for a jump starter battery. Just the safety issue vs the disadvantage of carrying around lithium battery pack that may have no-charge when it comes to using it. Thank you for passing along this product-information that will help drivers avoid a stressful time.
Having had the scenario of a dead “jump starter” happen to myself, I think that’s a pretty nifty idea with the self-jump starter!

Hi Scotty, thank you for sharing your knowledge and years of experience. Your help is greatly appreciated 👏🏼
That capacitor is a cool product. I've always felt that when you leave a LiIon pack in a hot car you're trading the risk of not being able to start your car against the risk of burning your car down to the chassis if you get a faulty battery pack. With all the outsourcing and racing to the bottom of quality for manufacturing affordability, it seems like only a matter of time.
Your recommendations are invaluable. Thanks for the info!

Why has no one come out with something like The No Battery, Auto Starter sooner, Ingenuous. Living here in the heat of Texas, you get into your car start it and go, but then when you get back in the car to go back home the battery is dead, out of nowhere, never had that problem when I lived up in NY. Awesome Product.

Supercapacitors were not that great, but they have been getting better. People have made their own versions of these on youtube. I made one as well using nema3r box, premium aluminum battery terminals, 116 farad, 16.2v maxwell supercapacitor bank, and a 10aH 12v lithium cell. Mine has a universal input for solar panels, batteries, etc, and can also charge off the internal lithium cell. The advantage of the supercapacitor is high discharge rate, and can be stored at 0 voltage. Maxwell supercaps can also last over 1 million discharge cycles. One thing you don't want to do is short out capacitors though..

@@Will_RM You can type in the search bar "diy super capacitor jump starter" and some different ones will come up. I would recomend that if building one, do it safely, because some supercaps can be kind of dangerous if shorted, can discharge enough energy to weld wires together.

@@CincyPhotography But lithium batteries need to maintain a charge and once its used the battery is dead. Rechargeable have a much lower cycle rate than the Autowit and it doesnt require a charge.. Autowit has NO battery i n it. Autowit pulls the last bits of energy from the dead car's electrical system then uses it in an instant release to allow you to start the engine. I have the 1st gen version and it has saved me, my friends and even stranded strangers, from having to wait for roadside assistance or pay for a tow. The instructions say it is able to jump upto a 4L diesel engine. Now I'm not saying it can jump larger engines but, my 1st gen has started a Ford 6.7L and a Chevy 6.6L. Probably shouldn't have, but the owners agreed. I admit, however, that a few other engines just clicked despite Autowit signaling ready to jump.
Those are awesome but when I was able to afford one they were gone. I’m so glad they are back! Thanks Scotty!

Thanks for the info Scotty !
I bought mine a long time ago and finally used it heavily this weekend on a dead battery that was only showing 11.45 volts and no way would start the car. It charged up the supercap jump starter in a few minutes from the low battery, and started the car no problems. Second time, the battery was at 10.5 volts, and it worked again. Only once did I have a completely low battery on a different car this device wouldn't work. I had to still jump the car with cables and even that wouldn't work until the donor car ran for several minutes to recharge the old battery enough so that the the donor car could finally turn over the engine. Overall, this is a great device for gasoline engines.

Most impertant when jump starting a modern car with on board computers and electronics is to leave both batteries connected for at least three minutes in order to equalise battery voltages and thereby minimise any sparking when disconnecting the second jump battery. When the sparking occurs, this may cause damage to electronics in the car due to insufficient back EMF quenching caused by low capacity battery. Simply stated, if you can, disconnect the faulty battery and replace it with a good new one !!!!!
