Was not expecting the SPM reference but its very much welcome haha. Its a great game with a great story. One of my favorite mario games.

I actually held a record at an arcade for like 3-4 years on gauntlet. I used to play it a ton at home on some midway arcade disc, and got incredibly good at it that I could go through the first loop without dying (which is 100 rooms, after 100 the game loops but changes enemy stage pools.) I have no idea if I still have the top score or not, since someone damaged the machine and I never saw it again.

My dad was almost the WR holder for the original Tron game at some point. He always said he could’ve gotten it, but it was bored after a few hours. The world record is like a crazy length, the best record I could find was for ~6,750,000, and that took 12 hours and 30 minutes.

i was giga good at galaga but my issue is that most arcade games get so boring after a while. its essentially the same stage on repeat and its just memorizing patterns. in the modern day theres zero reason to even do that imo.

7:00 YES, ACTUALLY! I used to go to an arcade on the seafront near where I live, and they had a Piano-tiles sort of rhythm game there (I forget the name, it might have BEEN Piano Tiles or smth, but basically you had 4 keys, had to hit them in the right order, and got put on like a 1 second timeout if you hit the wrong one once), anyways, I not only had the high-score EVERY time I went there, I actually found the highest POSSIBLE score for the game! It was 200 something, IIRC. Super fun though, and nice to have a game I could always go to if I actually wanted tickets instead of just trying something new

I actually got a big blue monkey stuffed animal from one of those claw machines in a bowling alley once. It’s roughly 1.5 to 2 time my head in size. I was only one of maybe like 4 kids there at the time to get one, and this was a school trip so there were like 30-40 kids there. That was a nice achievement for me then.

I’ve had the top 2 scores on all the levels at two games at my local arcade. They were both dome screen games one was called Star Wars Battle Pod and the other one was Dome Screen Dogfight Machstorm. I remember them being very similar rail shooters so being good at one of them pretty much meant you were good at the other one. First time I played Machstorm I nearly doubled the previous highest score. After getting the top 2 spots on all the levels I didn’t wanna hog the scoreboard so I left the next 8 ranks open so I could watch other people try and get close whenever I came back. Unfortunately after a few more years the arcade closed and nobody came within 20k points of me.

On a older game, where you have to shoot clowns and save hostages in a theme park, I am the only one to have saved all 100 civilians, gotten the best ending and got the top score. Until they took that machine out, I would always check every so often and still held that

i once beat the high score in a pretty old arcade game that was 100 percent reaction time based and it was kinda like isaac in the way that you had to shoot things around you in 4 cardinal directions. the reward i got for beating the high score was a pint glass from the bar with the places name and logo etched into it, but sadly i accidentally broke it before i got home

6:40 I always go to dave and busters or this week long fair that had an arcade, and I do get a decent bit of high scores, the only issue is a lot of them reset every week, so I dont know if it actually counts. But dave and busters I can always get a crazy amount of tickets.

There was an arcade game at Dave & Busters in NJ where it counted down from 5 seconds and the closer you stopped it to 0 seconds the more tickets you got. I was able to consistently get it to 0 seconds I would say...30-40% of the time? I had so many tickets I could have easily afforded a nintendo console by the time I left. I forget which one it was now...maybe a Wii? It was a while ago. I ended up splurging on so much candy. So, so much candy. Like it was genuinely stupid how much candy I left with. When I went back a few months later the countdown game was gone. More than likely a coincidence but I always get to think it was my fault :)

about arcades, so in the local mall theres was a booth back in the day with a jurassic park game where you had to shoot the dinosaurs on screen and the game kind of progresses. (2 players, guns attached to the booth). So me and my friend got in there, were playing for like more than an hour and got to some crazy stages where you had to insert a code to diffuse a bomb or something. Another hour in and we got kicked out by the security cause when we looked outside there was a line of people waiting to play and they thought we were cheating
