    They got separate trials and that alone can easily account for why the sentences were different. They were both convicted of second-degree murder of Martha Crutchley. Benjamin was actually acquitted of all charges in Joshua Ford's death. Erika was convicted of first-degree murder of Joshua.

    When I was younger I came across a rich older couple that my friends and I partied with a few times . They ended up inviting us over to party one evening and provided a bunch of alcohol and drugs and proceeded to get really intoxicated themselves . As the night went on the woman started claiming that my friend groped her . He wasn't that drunk and even if he were he wasn't the type to do that so we all knew that something strange was happening . Her boyfriend started getting all angry and worked up like he was going to kill this kid . Eventually things all calmed down and the two psychos retired to their room for a drug induced , adrenaline fueled shagfest . We took off immediately and never looked back . That was what got this pair off and I would guess they did this scenario regularly . I could see them murdering when the thrill of scaring the shit out kids wore off .

    The legal definition of serial killer is 3 or more murders, over a period of one month, an significant amount of time between any other murders.

  • @erikasmith8894

    @erikasmith8894

    Жыл бұрын

    The definition of a serial killer is three or more victims, but you are wrong regarding it being in a months time span. There are no time spans when it regards people who are serial killers. There are at least up to 70 active serial killers in the US currently, and who knows how long they have been committing their crimes. Even the FBI has no clue until or unless they are caught and the investigation brings forth any information as to how many did this person take out, and when they first started till their last victim. And a lot of the time, we still don't know their numbers of victims as we are discovering more evidence from the likes of Ted Bundy having more victims than we know as well as Gary Ridgeway. It is speculated that they have more victims that just weren't discovered or been connected. But perhaps with the never ending evolvement of forensics, more victims can be tied to a perp, and some type of closure.

    In the words of comedian Chris Rock, 'Can't people be crazy no more?' Ocean City MD is a vacation spot. So it would appear that they selected that location b/c of the transient nature of the visitors. I do not think the murders qualify as serial killing---possibly spree killing. Regardless of how the crimes are parsed, clearly both were motivated to hunt for prey to get a thrill.

    There is no one true definition of Serial Killer. From a publication by the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI: "There has been at least one attempt to formalize a definition of serial murder through legislation. In 1998, a federal law was passed by the United States Congress, titled: Protection of Children from Sexual Predator Act of 1998 (Title 18, United States Code, Chapter 51, and Section 1111). This law includes a definition of serial killings: The term ‘serial killings’ means a series of three or more killings, not less than one of which was committed within the United States, having common characteristics such as to suggest the reasonable possibility that the crimes were committed by the same actor or actors. Although the federal law provides a definition of serial murder, it is limited in its application. The purpose of this definition was to set forth criteria establishing when the FBI could assist local law enforcement agencies with their investigation of serial murder cases. It was not intended to be a generic definition for serial murder."
