This Moon Shouldn't Exist: The Mimas Test

At first sight - it looks like science fiction. But this is a real photograph of Saturn's innermost moon.
What could have created such a huge crater? How did the moon survive the impact? And what would happen if something so big hit our planet. Would we survive? Find out - as we uncover the secrets of Mimas: Saturn's Death Star moon.

The size of the asteroid itself in miniscule in comparison to the crater it makes. The crater is formed from the asteroid giving all of its kinetic energy to the larger body, which will happen regardless of the angle it hits. Thus, like the other person said, any impact will make a circular crater regardless of the angle it hits.

Mimas might be an artificial satellite from the Ancient Builder races (aka Seeders/Founders/Guardians), who seeded primitive hominids in Earth millions of years ago. It could be part of a defense system to protect the inner planets. Iapetus, with its raised central ridge and hexagonal surfaces, could also be part of this system.
