The reason it knew his name is because the map creator has a command on the map that can check for certain usernames, and depending on the username it can say a different peice of dialogue, hence why the map “knew” Dan’s name.

i mean kinda? the testfor command is not in java, but the actual command is /tellraw DanTDM "Daniel Robert Middleton". Usually, people use tellraw commands for @a, so everyone in the server can see it. but you can always set the command for specific people, hence why it says /tellraw DanTDM instead of /tellraw @a. So the command is always going off but you can't see it, only dan can see it if he is the server/map

⁠ It checks for Dan’s username specifically. Since Minecraft usernames are specific and unique to each player, it wouldn’t be hard to check for his user using commands.

Coming back to this a year later and it’s still the same Dan. Never change Dan, never change.

For the guessing the name thing, I think - as Dan was credited at the start - the map creator knew he would play so there was a testfor command which tested for the player's username. If the player is called "DanTDM" then that dialogue will trigger, otherwise it would just say some other dialogue. Just a theory though, I don't actually know.
