@Ellenfisher being a mom is a blessing wonderful thing but I think you never know how life will turn out. I think getting a degree was and is a good choice(I'm in college currently) but I also don't see anything wrong with being a full time mom. You could get married and have kids and let's say your husband suddenly dies or someone looses their job or whatever so having a degree is a good fallback in my opinion. I also think it's important to invest in yourself and set goals for yourself. For me graduating from college is my biggest accomplishment so far and I'm happy I'm graduating soon. Setting goals for yourself and doing things that make you feel good is important. That goal doesn't have to be college but college can be good. I know life is more than money and career but I like knowing I can support myself and eventually a family. That's just my perspective/opinion.

I do not have the maternal energy to be a mother and I definitely know I would not be able to put in the work it takes to be a mother. I think it’s a beautiful thing to be a mother to one’s children and that it is a job of its own, but not for me personally. I have wanted to have a high paying career and go up in social status for a long time and I enjoy the thrill of success and growth that way. But some people like other ways of life and that’s fine! I think women are all so unique and individual and we all have different needs and paths!

I am so glad you posted this! I have eight children (all to the same man!) and we homeschooled all of them! My oldest is married with baby #2 on the way, the oldest five are all graduated, my last three are all in high school. I am in the "home stretch" and I have a deep, deep sadness, knowing that it will all end all too soon. The house is way cleaner now without little ones, we get out of the house and into the car on time now (!!!), all my children do their own laundry, the amount of food I cook is vastly decreased with only three left.... sigh. I hate to be a broken record, but it DOES go by too fast and you will absolutely pine for the days when you were in the midst of chaos of a bunch of little ones. This is the most beautiful life there is...

I chose to abandon my career (which required a Masters Degree) and be a full time mom when my son was born 8 years ago. Wouldn't change it for the world! Now I have a 19 month old and I am so happy to be experiencing every moment all over again with a fresh perspective and a little more maturity at the age of 39. Among our friends, I am the only stay at home mom. Some family have even had the audacity to say that I "need to go back to work" and put my daughter in daycare! The lack of support when it comes to my choice for my family is sad sometimes. I am grateful I have a husband who makes enough money to allow me to stay at home and raise my own children... they are a blessing in every way❤ You are an inspiration!

I am now living on food stamps with a college degree 5 years later and it took me so long to find work. I have to build my career back at 35. Nobody thinks it could happen to them, but women are the ones risking everything when they give up their careers. We don’t live in a world that is kind and supportive towards mothers. And I’m not just talking about divorce. If anything happens to your husband, then you’re screwed. Women want to close their ears and go “La La La” when other women say this, but it happens to SO many of us. Your family is right, but it does suck.

i’ve been watching you since i was freshly graduated from high school, about to marry my high school sweetheart with all of these goals i thought were my own. it’s only now, at 26, that i realize how much of the way i saw my future was molded by what other people were telling me i wanted. “you’re too young to get married, too young to have kids, too young to buy a house, too young to know what you want in life” and now that i’m a SAHM to 2 little boys, i’m realizing that hearing all of those things my whole life has severely impacted the value i have put on the work i’m doing now. i said to my husband less than 2 hours ago: “i feel like i don’t have a purpose” because i’m not making money & don’t have a career. but, i don’t want those things. i don’t want to be away from my children, i don’t want to make 100k a year and miss out on these slow days at home that feel “purposeless”. these are times i’ll never get back. this is time for me to pour everything i have into raising GOOD children who turn into good people. my job isn’t a waste. thank you for this reminder.

However, I do think that a woman should never expect that there will always be a man to support them. Stuff happens... divorce, illness, job loss, death of a spouse. Life has away of happening while you're busy making other plans and you shouldn't wait around for a husband to walk into your life. If you find that someone special to settle down with and raise a family, that's wonderful. But, do yourself a favor and have some kind of training or job skill that you can fall back on should the unexpected happen. It also doesn't hurt to have some retirement savings set aside for yourself. Believe me, the "golden" years have a way of sneaking up on you very quickly!

I needed her presence, her loving touch, her guidance. I could have done without all the things. (As grateful as I am) I have 2 littles now and mostly stay home with them. I nannied for a long time and saw how hard it was on families with both parents working full-time. Kids desperately need present parents, and raising children is a beautiful experience that feels like our society makes into something with little to no value. I suddenly wanted a family. I gave up my career by choice and decided to be a stay at home mom. I’ve never been happier. I didn’t know what I was missing. At the same time, i’ve never gotten more judgment and belittled by people for being a stay at home mom. Being told things like- I’m not doing anything with my life,” or “ I need to stick my daughter in daycare so I can go really make something of myself,” etc… The list goes on. Though I know these things aren’t true. It still hurts. I am so grateful that my husband and I agree on how we want to run our household and raise our children. Bless you, Ellen. 💖

I think education is really important to enable you to have choices IF circumstances change. We’ve also worked so hard to try and fight for equality, that assuming a ‘woman in the home’ role can feel at times archaic. I will add though that I was lucky enough to get to be a stay at home parent for 2 years whilst my husband made enough money to provide that. Sadly it wasn’t an option for long term as the cost of living continued to get more expensive. It really is a very privileged position to be in to be able to stay home, and those 2 years for me were so special. In the U.K. there are more and more fathers staying home with children whilst mothers go out to work. More and more companies are offering fathers 6 months paid paternity leave now which is incredible! X

It’s not just a “privilege”. Anyone can do it, some may work harder for it than others. The word I would use for it is sacrifice. Unless your partner has a very high paying job, you have to sacrifice everyday to be a homemaker and stay at home mom. There’s nothing glamorous about it.. for most that is

@@katie8325 Just because someone may not have a partner does not make someone with a partner privileged. That is the norm, the base line..that is how it is supposed to be and what steps you should take before having a child. Does it makes the person without a partner in a bad position, sure. But the lack in someone else’s life does not automatically make someone else privileged. If your partner has a job, trust that you can make it work. Most don’t want to because they want to consume more than they can afford. It may not happen over night, you may have to work a second job or work nights or weekends, but you can certainly put yourself there in a year or two. Just because you are home during the day does not mean you don’t work part time on the evenings or work from home once or twice a week.. it looks different for every family. But it is certainly a sacrifice and not some fairyland where one partner makes a lot of money and the other gets to sit at home and paint their nails all day. And yes I believe that being a slave to someone else is archaic.

I started watching this channel at 13. Now I’m 21 and married with a toddler and another on the way. I’m so happy. I knew when I was 18 that this is definitely what I wanted. With university looming over Me I felt like I would never ever be happy. So I didn’t go. I got a part time job and before the summer was even over I met the love of my life. He has supported and loved me ever since. We have the same goals and we love the home we’ve created together so far. We’re excited for the future.

So grateful to you for that. ❤️🌱☮️ Edit: I am much older than you (and childless by choice) and the youngest of 7 and my own beloved Mother recently passed away. I am a proud grandmother of nine blessings that range in age from almost one to eighteen years. With the unconditional support from all of my in-laws, I was able to be a stay at home mom for most of my children’s school years. We have 2 sons and 2 daughters. I am so proud that our daughters chose to be full time moms and even equally proud of our two daughter in laws for being awesome working mothers! I truly believe that great parents like you both, are the answer to world peace. One family at a time. Like you both, we were able to raise our children and are able to enjoy our grown children and our grandchildren in Hawaii. You are an awesome inspiration to us all! Such a beautiful place your family continues to build.

I think the key is to be supportive of whatever life any women (or person) wants to live. I work with women during the first 2000 days (during pregnancy from conception to their child being 5 years) and a lot of the women I support are young mothers who have not had a career or education and are reliant on their partner and many of them have been in violent relationships they can’t leave because they don’t have the education or financial means to leave so they stay to have a home for their children and food on the table. The most heartbreaking thing I’ve learned since working in this field is that most domestic violence starts in pregnancy - often linked with loss of some control from the perpetrator. Living in small regional towns in Australia there are very limited resources and supports for these women. So while I support any women choosing what is right for them and their family, if you have even a small amount of education and experience it can go a long way if you need to leave a relationship should anything happen. All of these women were the same as all of us and thought ‘oh that will never happen to me’. Personally I will stay home with my children and am privileged to be a little older and have good experience, education and skills if I needed to draw on that. However I am also privileged to have a loving supportive husband I have been with for over 10 years who has a good job. Just wanted to share another experience to show the pros of education / career development for women before becoming mothers ❤️

Thank you for saying this and for what you do to help vulnerable women! I'm so glad I have a bachelor's degree from a prestigious university and work experience because it gives me options. For instance, my husband is in grad school, so I'm the main breadwinner. And God forbid something happens to him, I can support our family and not worry about being destitute. I'm thrilled for Ellen that she's living the life of her dreams, but advocating for women to exclusively be mothers without pursuing other skills and education for themselves leads to situations like you've described. In Ellen's case, she does have a career; she runs a social media empire, produces and edits videos, promotes products, sells courses, and runs a podcast. If something happens to her hubby, she has many skills and a degree to fall back on. I belive every woman should receive an education and have some work experience because many things can go wrong in life, and she should have a way to take care of herself and avoid being trapped in bad marriages due to a lack of options. So let women live as they please, but they should all have the skills and resources to take care of themselves if shit hits the fan.

I really appreciate you sharing what you did. I have been watching your videos since I was in 7th grade (now a junior in college), and your joy for all things -- family, life, food, friends, mundane moments, and more -- have always been so encouraging! I really resonate with what you said. My biggest dream is to be a mom and love on my kids to the fullest extent! It has been interesting being in college and having my professors diminish the abilities and love of a mother, always telling us that the emotional and care work that comes with it is draining, depressing, and you will never have enough left for yourself. I struggle with hearing this, because I believe that the giving of yourself so freely as a mom is beautiful and can be so fulfilling. The more modern day outlook on life with kids as less great than if you live it alone but financially stable is sad. If I ever mention that I want to get married and have kids young, everyone looks at me funny and laughs because they think that I am throwing my life away. But, I am not chasing a career or money. I desire a simple life that is filled with so many wonders like love, memories, and peace. Thank you for always reminding me that this life is a possibility!

I got married when I was 22 and in college. I got a lot of weird looks from people because I looked even younger than my age. I know how you feel. But I do want to point out that there is some truth to their concerns: Children are expensive, stressful, and time-consuming. When you become a mum, you have to make decisions that are in their best interests, not necessarily your own, which can mean lots of sacrifices. Then there is the money piece. Lots of families nowadays simply cannot afford to have stay-at-home moms because life costs a lot more than it used to. Ellen lives what looks like a beautiful, idyllic life, and I'm so happy for her that she gets to. But she is in a privileged position. She can afford to live in Hawai'i, the most expensive of the US states. She works from home and has an extremely flexible job since she runs her own social media empire. And she makes a lot of money off her social media, which I'm sure she works very hard to do, but many people will never succeed on social media, even if they work at it. While you're right that happiness is attainable for us all, a life like Ellen's is probably not what most stay-at-home moms can sustain in this day and age. But that doesn't mean you can't find a way to make motherhood balanced and fulfilling for you. Just keep in mind that social media isn't real life, and the fortunate few who can live these idealized lives may have many more resources and privileges than other families have.

So often your videos make me cry. I can’t say right what I want to say, so this will have to do. I am also a mama of five - our youngest daughters are about five weeks apart in age. I too have been vegan for over a decade and I too am a full time stay at home mama. I also crave beyond crave a slow, simple and beautiful life. I too home educate them and always have. However there are so many differences because you have achieved these things in ways I can only ever dream of and I so admire, respect and have my heart filled for you. My journey is different and we struggle with a lot of life’s basics - i long to be self sufficient but we live in a home near a town in a (now dark!) northern hemisphere corner of the UK. I am constantly put down because of my life choice to “not work”….. yet absolutely nothing could make me change my mind about my conviction that this is what I want and need to be doing. I am only sad that it took me so long and so many years of searching to find it, and to accept myself that this is me. My children are my very heart and without being with them, I would have no purpose. I am many other things too - but Mama and wife is my role. I am a bit older than you, Ellen, and feel the pressure to move on now….. yet I don’t actually feel ready. I want to savour all this for longer, to do better, to linger over the baby days (though my eldest is a teen! And gorgeous for it). They grow so so so fast - and these “endless days” will be a golden memory far far too soon. Love and light.

I have had those same feelings as a young woman who wants to dedicate her life to raising babies. I have come to terms, though, that I am not in that season yet. I am a 21 year old in my last year of undergrad, and have chosen to look at is as getting an education FOR my children. I never wanted to go to college, but I am so glad that I am graduating now! I feel like it will make me a better mom, because I am able to speak knowledge and wisdom into my children that I wouldn’t necessarily otherwise have. I chose to pursue Photography in university, which is something that I love and can always pursue outside of Motherhood. I think that women who have babies and Mother without further education can 100% give a beautiful fulfilling life to their children, and I also think that women who are educated before having their babies can offer a different kind of perspective and knowledge base that is also beneficial and fulfilling. It’s just different paths, but I am certainly grateful that I have the opportunity to finish my degree in Photography before entering into the depths of Motherhood (which I am so looking forward to!)

It is a cold monday morning here in Denmark right now, i LOVE sitting here with my hot cup of coffee and watch your videoes. You inspire me so much Ellen!! I know it's controversial, but starting my day with the right kind of youtube video just sets the tone for the rest of the day. And i really strongly agree on that parents should be able to be a stay at home parent without judgement. I will only get children if i get the opportunity to be a stay at home mom, but that like super controversial here in Denmark. We call the standart danish life a "Villa, Volvo, Vovse"-life, which means, that you need a big house, big car and cute dog (and kids) to live up to the "danish dream life". This life style is so important for many danes, and i honestly have never felt so excluded from my community, because my wishes are not the same at all, i crave a slow life, being a stay at home mom/wife, i crave it so so much, and i really feel seen whenever i watch your videoes! Thank you so much for being such an inspiration.
