This MASSIVE Mall Sits COMPLETELY ABANDONED - The Hamilton City Center Mall

Today we find ourselves exploring the notorious abandoned Hamilton City Center Mall. This shopping center originally began its life as an Eatons department store in 1927. After the company's bankruptcy in 1999, the department store was demolished and from the rubble rose the Hamilton Eaton Center Mall. Sadly it was outcompeted by larger surrounding malls that popped up in the area, and foot-traffic began to slow for the mall. The mall rebranded as the Hamilton City Center Mall in the early 2000's but later announced it would be closing its doors permanently December 26 2022. The mall was soon after purchased by a developer who plans to build a condo complex on the property, but with troubled economy the project has fallen flat. The mall now sits abandoned, slowly decaying with an uncertain fate. Join us as we explore this old abandoned mall and see what was left behind

    Cops sometimes use abandoned places for training exercises, which could explain all the shell casings.

    That sounds very likely! I hope that was the reason behind the shells!

    @@UnchartedTravel They were absolutely crimped blanks - never any projectile loaded (can't be, the mouth of the case is crimped over) the type used in movies and TV (not the type with the flat plastic endcap used in starter pistols/replica blank firers). If it was LE I'd expect Simunitions these days so I'd lean toward use for filming.

    I frequented this mall up until it closed. The bowling alley was in full use. And seeing some of the beloved stores that I frequented sitting empty and hearing that the condo construction is on hold, with all the homeless in this shitty city, really hurts.

    The emergency exit stairs that skip every other floor are very common in high rise buildings. As a fire escape they basically double the capacity of a stairwell. At the bottom floor the stairwell doors will usually be marked "Even floors" and "Odd floors" for the fire dept so we knows which stairwell to use to get to the involved floor.

    This is very true, the bowling alley was a huge shock - the investor sunk over $1 million into creating the entertainment center, and after finishing 80% of the build, the city told him the bars could only be open until 6pm (probably in an effort to chase the final tenant out of the property) which completely killed the alley

    5:08 The pieces of bikes indicates drug thief’s and squatters. Likely stolen and someone is stashing them here until they can or need to sell them for drug money. Also, it’s been ransacked and stuff all over the floor indicates the same; they’re looking for anything to sell for drugs. The shell casings could also be from them if they’re hiding lots of stolen stuff there or drugs.

    3:13 Got at least three theories for that inaccessible stairwell. Theory 1: It might have been meant for an emergency exit for the bowling bar section of the mall (of course how well this one holds up depends on where that part is). Theory 2: there was a miscommunication between contractors and builders, and they build the accessible stairwell when it should've been built somewhere else. Theory 3: Something went wrong with the staircase that you couldn't get to, so the builders had to build another staircase to replace it. In any case, it's a confusing layout for sure.

  • @StubbyPhillips

    @StubbyPhillips

    3 ай бұрын

    Yeah, kinda freaky! It's just a way to get increased stairway traffic capacity (important in an emergency) in a relatively compact area. A similar arrangement can also be used to isolate stairs belonging to different tenants on the same floor for security reasons, but they would be walled off completely from each other.

  • @camban

    @camban

    3 ай бұрын

    @@StubbyPhillipsagreed. Loading weight and congestion during emergency egress is a big safety consideration. It is preferable to have multiple independent exit stairwells in a fire or emergency situation that just one which everybody tries to pour into from multiple points and ultimately logjam/trample each other.
