Random fun fact: The "Not work on any emulator" is kinda true for custom N64 games, not just bs for creepy points. I've dabbled in 64 Homebrew and there are only 2 that really run games with true system accuracy. Older Emulators are basically coded to only run the specific library of the 64 and just lock up when trying to run games that aren't recognized.

There's also actual N64 games that don't really run on emulators. Kirby 64 for example has a weird animation thing that makes it so the UI doesn't show up correctly on your regular Project64 or something, and emulators that can run it can't run other games well.

I think Connor spitefully added the wolf to represent Mark (the CEO). A carnivorous creature that "put all his friends to work." The wolf's minigame represents the mindset Connor feels trapped in. A deadline is chasing him, he's lost in a maze not sure where to take the game while desperately searching for the boss's money. Connor was probably waiting in delight for the moment the boss realizes its supposed to be him. He didn't.

I think the plot is this: The Starlings are dead people: people revived to become living mascots for some equivalent of Disney. Instead of putting souls into Animatronics, they're literally reviving people as zombies and then making them wear Mascot suits. Brandon, the first one, is unstable and violent- but the sheer power and secrecy of the company keep his attacks under wraps: and anyone he kills, end up "becoming" a Mascot. Buckee Brandon stalks, then drowns Olive, making her permanently become Olive Otter. Then he kills a random cook at a Buckee's diner, who becomes the Goose. Brandon's used as muscle to intimidate and harass, and also silence witnesses it seems- as the head of the company shows up with "Brandon" but most obviously showed up with Buckee Brandon to terrify the head developer. This makes the video game company go bankrupt, because the Head of the Buckee Company is somewhat cracked- if that ungodly thing that is Brandon is "the face everyone loves" and not the cutesy polygonal one, and an entire company ends up out of work. It's also likely that the Head Developer did not jump- that big fancy house was not the house of a 90's era developer. He was probably thrown, but kept a camera on his person to try and record evidence, and told his son to retrieve it. The son finished the game and put the secrets in there, but also wasn't mentally well after his dad's passing and a seeming evil presence hanging over him and his efforts. It's also possible the whole "n64" thing is a lie in universe- it was originally going to be an n64 game, but it took years before the Son could get the skill to get the game: the slapdash credits sequence may just be people the Son found in universe to help him finish his dad's game from the unpublished Demo.- the game is short and about the size of a demo. The release of Shipwrecked64 now suggests something happened that wrecked Buckee's brand that prevented damage control, perhaps the Starlings went amuck and the deaths became too hard to cover up, or like what almost happened to Disney, got ran into the ground by bad management once the old man passed away.

You sure nailed it with this "theory"! But I do think that the game dev father jumped from the roof, cause he seemed to be quite unexperienced at developing games (at least for the N64) and, by the looks of it, doing most of the game by himself. All the pressure, money put into this project and the hideous stuff that happened behind the scenes was too much for him to bear, so he took his own life. He wasn't able to tell to his son the reasons behind his suicide, so he planned to tell all of it through the game, and his son, emotionally destroyed by the death of his father and by what the company had done to him and all these other people, ported the game to PC, so we can learn the truth as well

The thing is that if Brandon or "Buckee" is too violent is youd expect the company to at least try to find a way to keep him calm or keep him out of trouble but they let him roam around and kill either random or specified/targeted people. And even let him harm/disfigure himself a few times, like in that interogation tape where he keeps smashing his head to his friend's(?) door for about a couple of hours. If they want to have perfect and successful "mascot" then wouldnt they stop him from hurting himself since it would make him look more creepy or "disfigured". If the victims are targeted, why are they targeted? Did they know/discovered something about the company? Were they gonna report the company to the police? Were they gonna reveal the company's secrets to the public?

i feel the same. i wonder if teh wolf was supposed to be the son? obviously cut short. i also wonder if the starlings didnt just die natrually. id imagine it took ALOT of money to make a zombie mascot, it was referenced in teh docs you find. im also not sure everything was chronological. how did brandon become a starling? not like how did he die, what was their method and why was it only people from their company? my thought is the zombie mascots maintain parts of their original personalities. brandon showed alot of anger management issues in that clip of him with the guy trying the demo. are the mascots stupipd compared to us? why did the goose end up with a fork in his eye? was that the handlers fault? was the goose sentient enough to be suicidal? did beever try and kill him? i have so many questions and ive watched this vid twice! i do think tho that the mascots arent wearing suits. i think its some weird mutated version of the dead. maybe fused with their host animal in some way. but maybe coworkers who dont know whats happened thnk its people wearing suits.

So what I think is happening in this, the "starlings" are this company's attempt at literally "bringing the characters to life" by genetically modifying employees that died. The application forms specify the "donor," their cause of death, and the target mascot that they're going to be formed into. That's pretty much all I was able to figure out.

The starlings seem to be used for a resort of sorts, represented by the island they were shipwrecked on. The wolves represent the employees on the island; this is why there's no wolf starling in the ending showing real life pictures of the starlings, and why there's nothing to be found in the wolf minigame. The wolves are still alive. Also, the wolf minigame is about you getting treasure. i.e., making the company money. The wolves dragged away the friends and forced them to work as punishment for "disturbing the peace". Perhaps they died on the resort, and thus disturbed the peace and lost them money? So the higher ups essentially dragged them out of the afterlife and enslaved them.

Here's what I can piece together from the ARG: It begins with Brandon, a worker at StudioGrounds Park, owned by Broadside Animation. Brandon Lester died of a Fentanyl overdose. His body was then converted into Bucky the Beaver. He was vetted by Luis W for safe use in the park. Olivia Finch, a co-worker, complained when Bucky/Brandon showed up at her employee cabin repeatedly and began mashing his head against the glass door. Brandon invited her outside to see something. She drowned. Her body was turned into Olive Otter. She was vetted by Johnson for safe use in the park. Gary Wilson, another co-worker, was bludgeoned and burned to death by Bucky/Brandon. His body was converted into Giovanni Goose, a fork still stuck in his eye. He was vetted by Tiffany Waters for safe use in the park. Nathan Stewart was an office worker at StudioGrounds Park. He found information about the Starling Project. Bucky/Brandon found him. Nathan died of assault and was turned into Walter Walrus, bloody wounds and all. His wife, Grace, never found out. Like Brandon, he was betted by Luis W. for safe use in the park. Fast-forward. Some time has passed. The park, and thus Broadside Animation, had become a success. Mark Mullins of Broadside Animation was approached by Connor Thomas of computer game studio Cogware. Cogware wanted to make an N64 game featuring characters from Broadside. It... didn't go well. Connor committed suicide as a result. The game passed to his son, who apparently gave it to a friend named Daniel... and that's where we enter the story. So... what is a Starling? Basically, they're modified zombies for running the mascot costumes. In essence, they _are_ the costumes, or rather the costume is their protective outer layer of skin. An important question, though, is how much of the original person remains... and just who is behind the murders committed by Bucky/Brandon.

So the beaver was a big franchise, some weird shit started happening with experimental Fnaf animatronic magic, they somehow put the body of a dead person into a suit and called it a starling, extremely unstable but free labor. Basically acts as a mascot but is just a dead body in a suit. This is Bucky. Bucky starts weirding out other employees, some of them have mysterious disappearances, idk if Bucky is being ordered to kill or just doing it. Either way the dead people are getting put into suits, more starlings. The main programmer knows this all is happening, somebody close to him got hurt, he makes this game to expose what’s going on. Funding gets cut and the game becomes this crazy passion project, where he’s unloading emotional trauma and evidence into this kids game. Eventually he can’t handle it and offs himself, leaving the game to his son with some instructions for how to find all of the files

These "Starlings" are... what, humanoid animal mutants? They treat them as such... From what I gathered, they're dead people that are then turned into those things to appear at a vacation attraction of sorts, though they can also appear with imperfections and stuff like that. Weird. Maybe it's an allegory for something else? Hard to say. The thing is, they then say these are costumes, despite talking about types of deaths and imperfections like "bleeding". Maybe they do those Starling things to mascot performers that die for some reason? Another thing I noticed... When zooming into the files, the camera described different motions for each one. A 'Z' for the Walrus Guy, a 'C' for Olivia, an... upside down 'U' for Gary, and a reverse 'N' for the Beaver.

I have to say, the creators did an *extremely* good job with the design of the "starlings", from the moment I saw all of them in the first "bad ending" cutscene, before I'd even seen any of the files, I was already sure they were somehow corpses or made from corpses just based on their appearance. Easily one of the most conceptually and visually disturbing things I've seen in one of these types of games in a while, definitely way more gruesome and creative than the now-typical FNAF knockoff "scary haunted animatronics" I was sort of expecting initially.

At least that guy who did it to me never followed me home and kept being creepy. Poor Olivia. She probably didn't want to show fear and give "Brandon" aka the zombie any satisfaction since he clearly enjoyed tormenting people lol. I was thinking this game is more towards the idea that they made this unaltered version as a form of evidence that the police can use to track down and arrest the killer. It might be haunted or it was intentional to inform its players that something is wrong with this game and hopefully would be dedicated into figuring out why this is the case. I can imagine that this games development and production covered the deaths of people who were involved with this game and the programmers would make this unaltered version first but cutout the creepy stuff in it to avoid them being targeted. As stated earlier, they would release the altered copies with the unaltered one to hopefully have somebody deliver this to the police.

I understood it like this: Starlings are experiments made from workers at the park who've died, turning them into mascots of some sort. The application forms serve to give details about the victims to the surgeon responsible for the operation (who I believe are the larger names signed at the bottom), having to swear they'll keep this a secret & will be killed ("terminated") if the operation fails. What's weird is that the signed names appear to have the same surname, except Olivia's dealer who's just Johnson. It seems like there are 2 plots going on, with Mark's park not doing so well which made him have this crazy idea, & Connor being a crazy dev who tried to resurrect his son Patt through a game. According to his files, Connor actually worked at the park years ago & is hinted to be experimented on too, remembering scalpels, hands on him, going under the knife, etc. The beach was the theme of his game bc thinking about it calmed him before operations. I still don't know how the game ended up trapping the souls of the actors though. But either Connor's discovery led to what Mark did or vice-versa. Also why do you guys think Brandon's operation being a success entailed him killing the others? Was it to make more like him? And how did he die, I couldn't read his cause of death. Thanks for reading lol.

I don't think the game itself is haunted, though there is something possibly supernatural going on. My reading is that the game was meant to be a tie-in/ad for this Broadside Vacation theme park, where they use reanimated corpses in mascot suits called Starlings as entertainers. It doesn't look like they are very safe or ethical. The owners were not pleased with the simplicity of the main game and kicked the devs out without full pay. In retribution they leaked the dirty laundry about the Startling "malfunctions" in the game files.

Definitely give the other related material a look. Also: the scrambled text on the signs translates to “Layer 2 Room (1/2/3, depending on which Secret Failed Minigame Room you’re accessing)”, as decrypted by a commenter on another playthru and corroborated by the game’s official Twitter. The dev’s comments in their YT channel’s community also hint at a “layer 3” section of the map files that I’m not sure anyone’s gotten a look at yet? Food for thought.

What a Story behind this Game. So, some Holiday getaway Park hires people to portray their mascots in suits. They also hire a budding Game Developer to make a Game For Them. And in Secret, they use the bodies of their mascot actors, which have a shockingly high mortality rate, to somehow Bring their characters to Life. I can't quite identify the cause of Brandon's death, but He seems to have been the First, and after being given the Green light to Work once more, He eventually, potentially by himself, potentially by directive of those leading this Programm, murders the other actors, leading to Them suffering the Same fate. Meanwhile, the Dev and the company Grow frustrated with one-another, as the Dev adds alot of Personal touches and aspects, specifically For His son, to the Game, which the Company does Not Approve of. After the Project is axed and the devteam fired, leaving Them without a Job and thus a way to Pay the Bills, the Dev Programms hints about the Secret doings of the company into the Game and gets as Many copies Out as He can in the hopes that that'll expose the company and Drive it Into Ruin.

OKAY So after looking back at some of the clues, this is the super basic stuff I gathered: There are animatronics or animatronic creatures called the Sterlings, which follows that usual idea of a human being wearing a suit, or perhaps even haunting one of those costumes. And the story basically tells us that there was Bucky Beaver (who is Brandon Lester) first, who killed three work associates, who eventually become Giovanni Goose (Gary Wilson), Walter Walrus (Nathan Stewart) & Olive Otter (Olivia Finch). This all confirms in from the fact that you see the cutscenes of Bucky killing the three people. 4:59 Lines up with Walter Walrus/Nathan Stewart's account of dying to assault, which is seen off camera. 30:49 The call being from Olivia mentioning specifically Brandon (Bucky) stalking her residence, which we can assume that it ends with her drowning. It already talks about Brandon acting strange, which can be alluded to that he already was dead in the suit. 33:27 Both the bashing to the head and pushing it into the stove was only two minutes apart from each other. So we can assume it was one person being killed in the whole scope of it, that being Gary who dies from severe burns. Now with each page accounting lining up with each seen death, we can guess that the Sterlings project does something with the humans and meshes them into a suit to turn them into a Sterling. That itself is written under another person performing the project which is written on the right side. The only thing I gathered from the audio between Connor who developed the game and the company spokesman Mark was that they brought a Brandon to film the demo. I'd guess that Connor kills Brandon or the likes to start the madness then, for his vendetta of his passion project being torn down.

I love the twist this game puts on the "mascots come to life with spirits" trope. Instead of imbuing a machine with a ghost, previous workers are revived into zombies that are then given the mascot costumes
