The thing is this is a joke. Reiji loves pranking his fans. People need to understand Japanese humour. Rent a girlfriend is a typical serialised manga. It will keep going as long as people buy it. Usually series won't end until the editor feels it can't continue anymore. It is a good series with plenty of fillers. Anime today feels hollow. I feel like filler chapters actually adds more to a manga like exploring quirks readers might not necessarily see in a story focused series.

Also the beret guy is not a self insert. The guy is a character. Chapter 218 will go down as one of the greatest manga chapters of all time because it broke the 4th wall. It gave the MC more character than every single harem MC combined since it showed him feeling jealous and imagining his girl getting NTRed, something most romance don't even bother writing.

Authors can create atrocious characters from what he objectively views are thr worst traits a hjman beinv can beand author can write a character, who is everything that he wish he were. its a very sane thing to feel somethinb about something fictional. like bro, weaboos fight wars just to pick the best waifuu etc. etc. etc. like being jealous off a fictional charavter is not that uncommon. I think that Chizuru is the manifestation of things he appreciates in women,some childhood friend/school crush for which he had feelings,or someone else he has known for some time. In that sense Kazuya is supposed to be Reiji and Mami his wife. So the whole point is that although he is married (Kazuya had history with Mami) he wants a new start (a new relationship if you would). I don’t know if I’m right or not, what I do know however is that calling him a “creep” and and treating him like a psycho is not the right thing. The guy is obviously has struggles with his life. I wish him the best. P.S. I’ve never seen this anime, I just know the basic plot ,some characters’ names and the fact that Mami is awful and Kazuya is desperate which makes my theory more plausible unfortunately.

There are many writers who use their real person life and reflects it into their creations. Who knows really what his mentality is, I don't care for this manga cause I find the characters annoying and apparently the story just drags and drags. I think the best example of a manga creator who originally made it just for fun and reflecting there desires in there manga is don't toy with me miss nagatoro. It originated from a dumb short Web game where it was clearly not to be taken seriously. Just kinda poking fun at the kink of being treated like shit and dominated. Even when the manga begins it's kinda obvious it was made by someone reflecting their personal kink into a manga. I mean it literally starts with the main protagonist being called "pathetic" and "weird" by nagatoro to the point of him crying. I feel the creator was representing himself into the main protagonist. But then as the manga goes on it becomes more serious and well written to the point that it actually becomes wholesome and memorable, not just lewd for the sakes of being lewd. I don't really read many mangas and i tried to read Rent a Girlfriend but I got bored and found it obnoxious, but don't toy with me miss nagatoro is one of the mangas I respect for actually having some good characters and plots that progress the story, instead of just being in the cycle of making lewd jokes and never progressing. This manga however just clearing isn't going anywhere story wise. Do I think he's a creep or a phycopath like others are saying? No. But I hope he stands back and thinks more on his life choices instead of beating a dead horse with his manga. I do wish the creator the best and hopes he maintains a healthy relationship with his wife and children.

As an artist myself, I won't say it's impossible cause there are times when i realise that the character i drew looks really beautiful but actually romanticizing them is uncharted territory.

FINALLY someone said this, because I do too, as a character designer, I do fall in love to some of my characters, not in a romantic or sexual way, but whenever I hit the right spot of their design or character, I get so proud like a supportive parent. I want to draw them over and over again on many different ways, like giving opportunities to an employee. Just the happiness of creating a promising character design (even if it's just for the artist) is a great feeling.

Perhaps it's a similar story to me. I am not an artist, but I am trying to write a story for potential novel as my hobby. And sometimes I really fall in love with the process! Not in these strange ways, but it's like being a parent, who sees the story of a character and its progression during the plot of the story! It feels very inspiring, like I am getting proud of my creation and myself! Don't know how to explain it, hope you understand! If you have such a strong connection with your own characters and story, you may want to do something "unusual", like more adult pictures or adults plots, but I think it's important to know where is the edge of this! Or at least don't make it public.

I don't think it's wrong to fall in love with your own character, because it means you created something with qualities you wish someone had. Now, bringing those feelings into the real world doesn't work out since unfortunately they don't exist.

I think the mangaka is trolling to some degree, but I do think he may have an overtly attachment to his character Mizuhara and she s=could be the subject of his projected fantasies. I really wished this is just his attempt to self sabotage so he doesn't have to argue about making an ending with the editor. I really wished its just a creative difference of "artist trying to move on but contradicted with having assistants and providing a business" issue. But then again, the plot remains still for 218 chapters is not something that can be remedied quick. Even if other mangas like Nisekoi managed to give an example on how to silently ends a plot-suspended romcom manga.

Akb49 is a really, really good manga. The main character (male) is go through a lot of hardships, initially for the girl he like, but in the end he become a great idol himself to pay back for the team and production company that have give him and other girls goals and dreams to achieve. Really wholesome and rarely any ecchi moment. Damn I kinda feel embarrassed that The Rental girlfriend's author is working for this series

And it’s where people romanticize this idea of shifting to a parallel world and tricking their brain that they are living in another reality. Then you'd be belated to hear that simping over a fictional character they created by gambling their money in a gacha game that the character is in is even lower.

It is weird but it acutally happens to some creators in general, some even treat their creations as their child just like monty oum's RWBY because sometimes its the manifestation of their desires that can never be/most probably cant happen in real life due to some circstances or how ridiculous it is.

I just randomly started watching this anime and finished it in 2 days after which I was in depression, so I decided to read the manga. Once I started from chapter 85 I couldn't control myself and completed reading all the chapters(85-252) in one day. I was in complete anguish after this was over and I wouldn't even sleep well for a day or so, eventually I started feeling better after watching Love is War. So this advice is for anyone who is going to start this manga/anime anytime soon, PLEASE DON'T, and even if you do don't fall into depression like me, as this is just a story and you have lots of people who love you.

The heck? When I read novels or watch stuff I subconsciously self-insert myself by comparing the mc to me, that’s why I cheer for the mc/protagonist to succeed, and angry if another character betrays the mc. The entire thing about novels and this medium of entertainment is that we subconsciously imagine ourselves being in the scene, being the badass or something; I can’t comprehend how you can be jealous of your own main character; especially since authors tend to use themselves as reference to create a protagonist so they can relate to their story’s main character and feel more motivated about writing them.

Wow dang, that was something. I am currently studying on my way becoming an artist and an art director in the future. But, I'm quite speechless seeing this video describing the mangaka would go so far out something I wouldn't expect to see.

Sad to know this anime series that we loved took such turns of events, Gotta fix this ourselves guys.

It's a 50/50 for me. I don't truly believe that a person like him could at some point become insane over his own creation. This man was releasing bangers before: making mangas people were reading with big interest, even outselling a show for opening of one of his creations. Before the start of working on Rent-A-Girlfriend he even decided to actually rent a Girlfriend and ask some questions probably to help him understand these people better. You're telling me that he takes photos of real places and decides to sit down and carefully draw her with perfect light, shading etc. to confidently say that she lives with him? He has a wife and kids. I genuinely don't *completely* believe that this man is being serious. This may be trolling or some kind of marketing for anything he may be planning in the future. Or maybe I'm just thinking too much about him.

being attracted to fictional characters is one thing. but you're on a whole different level of delusion when you make a character, put them in a love story, give them a love interest, and become upset that you wrote them falling in love.

I mean... in theory there's nothing wrong with wanting to draw your own characters however you please (they are just drawings after all.. not real people) but i don't get why he put **those** drawings in the manga??? he could've just separated the two... but oh what do I know😭I do know that he should get therapy tho

@@mosesracal6758 The official dojin for love is war is actually pretty tame. There are a few spicy chapters then it just becomes like fairy tales with the characters inserted into them. Pretty boring tbh. (There's a lot more spicy stuff out there to read) - also I don't really see why people are getting mad about sex scenes being drawn into a manga primarily about a type of prostitution, basically. The the early chapters were all about Kazuya jerking off. The last thing the series is is "wholesome," like come on.

I really liked this series in the beginning because Chizuru felt like a breath of fresh air from all the typical anime archetypes we see in every series. I've been watching anime since 2012 and everything has started to feel more or less the same. Same characters just in a different scenario with a new design. Chizuru felt much more grounded in reality. Just a normal person doing their job trying to achieve their goal. I was hoping this series would do what Re:Zero did and put the main characters issues front and centre and break down why Kazuya behaves the way he does and have Chizuru in her own way help Kazuya understand why his behaviour is inappropriate. But it was just lie after lie, after lie and neither person wants to take responsibility. This series would have been better if it had ended in the movie arc. I hope this series gets an anime original ending because it's been dragging on for way too long.

This is just... Sad. Something is definitely wrong with him. Damn, i hope he gets the help from whatever is happening to him. He has shown that he has a talent, i just hope that he won't fall further to the wrong side and regain his sanity back. Amen.

Sadly this is a thing with manga writers and comic writers where they start doing weird things and drawing weird things with there characters

Rent a girlfriend is the only show that I will approved if the anime decided not to follow the original source material and make an anime original ending for it instead. Lets be honest, reading the manga is just a waste of time but the anime adaptation though has been enjoyable to watch so far.

@@autobotstarscream765 The Usagi Drop anime did something similar, ending right before the infamous time skip from the manga was supposed to happen, so maybe you're onto something here.

Even if this is some elaborate troll or satire there’s a point where you gotta read the room. It all comes across just a tad too real especially with the questionable antics we’ve seen from other mangaka getting into.

Honestly this has happened before in like Greek Mythology with Pygmalion, Galatea was the first waifu ever.

As someone who is in a few art discords, him fawning over his own characters isn't as uncommon as you'd think

I'm always on the lookout for cool channels to watch and I found yours through your big Rent-a-Girlfriend review and really enjoyed it then saw you make Higurashi videos too which is super cool as I love Higurashi! Then I see you made a theory video about AoT having an anime only ending as well as your thoughts about the manga ending and agree completely with your complaints! I thought the theory holds a lot of water( even though I wont get my hopes up). You've earned yourself a sub and I can't wait to see more from your channel!

The dude took a life size Chizuru statue on a real date . You have a smaller series that puts a lot of love and they don't have any continuation or season 1 anime. And something like Rent a girlfriend ran series can get a season 3

I'm less concerned by the admittedly odd Mizuhara thing and more concerned he put a little bit of himself into all of his characters when one of those characters is Mami. There is no part of Mami that isn't just the worst.

Someone propositioned, I think Mother's Basement but I'm not sure, that Mami exists as Karmic Punishment for Kazuya's shitheelery. Also a nice usage of the fact that Karma doesn't line up neatly with morality, it's just a sense of what you do to others will be done unto you. Until he becomes a better person for real, Mami will be a 100 ton weight on his back, crushing him.

Been noticing these kinda posts on his Twitter recently and it’s so bizarre because it gives so much context to Kazuya’s idolization of Mizuhara and how everyone always stares at her in public which was annoying af after the 20th time. Also explains the sexualization of her as well… chapter 218 was him just wanting to draw Mizuhara getting fucked…so weird man lmao It would also explain how he keeps reminding his readers that Chizuru is perfect but then continues to write her as indecisive, inconsiderate and hypocritical. After the vacation arc ended with their date and it was seemingly moving into the next arc I knew it was the perfect place to stop because reading it weekly made me so angry and lost some braincells… I’ll check in on it in a few months but for now I’m done.

yeahh...I remember the days when there's nothing to watch except Rent a girlfriend and re zero s2. It feels nostalgic given how many shows that are airing this season and year...

Thank God I dropped the manga in its early chapters and instantly found a much better harem manga. It's called "100 Girlfriends Who Really Really Really Really Really Love You." As ridiculous as it sounds, it really will feature 100 girlfriends, and the premise is somehow working. The manga's protagonist is a chad, the girls are lovable too, and they all have distinct personalities that make interactions really charming. The author, Nakamura Rikito, and artist, Nozawa Yukiko, care a lot about the characters and this world they created. The manga's theme is heavily focused on love. So I'd suggest people read it after experiencing Rent-a-Girlfriend and the less than preferable direction it's taking.

@@sasukeuchiha998 It's not that kind of manga? It's sort of a parody that doesn't take itself too seriously, but that doesn't mean that it can't be serious at times. Kinda similar to Gintama or Saiki Kusou. Child support? If Rentarou doesn't have sex with them, how could such a subject be brought up in the manga? Definitely not a vasectomy either.

Doesn’t this reminds anyone of that Greek myth where some king falls in love with his sculpture and then later Aphrodite makes the sculpture real? Pygmalion was the name of the king or something like that.

I think I learned about this in history class back in high school. There was a guy who fell in love with his statue he made. Like in Ancient Greece

I think all of this is just a "Publicity Stunt" since in the modern age, all publicity is good publicity. With cases like this him and by extension his mangas would be more popular, and might convince some curious lads to give it a read.

He is just trying really hard to get into the mindset of his protagonist. It's quite brilliant tbh, reminds me of heath ledgers joker and the things he did to prepare for that roll

as an author i cant understand this 1 make your mc an extention of your self that way you feel like you got with her or 2 have the mc get with another check and have her leave its not heard
