This is a director's notes, telling a documentary director's respect and hope for ancient Chinese literature.
Yeh Chia-ying, known as "the last female scholar official in China", devoted all her life to the dissemination and teaching of ancient Chinese poetry. "Like the Dyer's Hand" records the legendary life of Madame Yeh (1924-), a master of Chinese classical ci. She has experienced wars, political persecutions, and drifting overseas. In her later years, she returned to the reform and opening up of China. She continued to create, inherit and teach, and restore the lifeline of classical poetry that was interrupted by the Cultural Revolution. The film interweaves Madame Yeh's personal life and thousand-year-old Chinese classical poetry, expressing her search for the meaning of existence in the long river of poetry. And Chen Tsun-shing, the director of "Like the Dyer's Hand", made Madame Yeh's legendary life widely known.
