I just subscribed. Great interview. We need more of this. This will help most Africans to know that we can still make it big while in Africa. Unfortunately, we tend to surround ourselves with people who always think everything about Africa is bad so we have to travel. Birds if the same feathers flock together. Besides our colonial masters ensured that they indoctrinated us in that belief of us not supporting our own dark skinned African business owners. Sometimes we do these deeds ourselves.

The spiritual relationship one has with a place, can best describe one's origin to home. Great Gambian heritage story, enterprise and community.

I get why some people are upset I truly understand that feeling i'm not from Gambia, I was born in the middle east although i'm African my first language is Arabic. I live abroad now but there is no way in hell any of us Africans can ever not even in a million year make that kind of money in an Arab country they will stop you in any way possible. You will forever be a slave in their eyes that was my nickname as a child my friends got beaten everyday. So yes people should be angry at the fact that this guy manged to make so much money off of us but we can't even have a small shop in his country without getting called names and getting kicked out of the country due to paperwork. I lived in more than 3 Arab countries so I can say this without feeling like i'm being racist, you can live with them but you can't be better that's the rule. The people who are calling people in the comment section racist for saying the truth are just stupid.

It appears that the net benefit is largely one-sided, as I highly doubt Africans will have equal access to establish businesses in Lebanon or India, even in the present day (2023).

India will be hard because there are already 500+ Million youngsters trying for business, so you will have tough competition. Indian market is very tough to crack, towns and small city people are very frugal with spending. Once India develops a bit more and spending increases, it will become a HUGE market.

Nope. They don't understand how the income from these businesses most likely doesn't go back into the Gambian economy. They don't understand what a monopoly means for local businessmen. They also don't understand why these people were historically placed in their countries by European colonizers/enslavers & how they perpetuate same ideas and structures of that time.

Why are people hating on him because of the colour of his skin, he is Gambian by birth we all come from somewhere. He is a resource which many Gambians or Africans should learn from, his business cuts across generational, which is rare in Africa. He makes very good points. Gambia should be trying to grow more of its own foods. But the rainy season and flooding is an issue there. I can understand why a Gambian would have a difficult time getting to work, because of the type of flooding they get.

I love something about Fady - he has a team spirit. He understands that nothing of value can be achieved alone.

Make sure you don't create a discrimination society where it favors a certain type of people like my country evolve into, and make sure the countries thats coming is not one that black people can't go because they are not welcome as these people bring their biases and if they get Into power they will change your system to favor their group and you remain a permanent underclass have anti discrimination laws make mandatory investment laws for the locals mandatory inclusion in their supply chains don't naively sits by and think it will go your way you have to manufacture your people upliftment

7:43, there are many Lebanese (and Syrian) descendants in Brazil . There is a popular shopping area in downtown Rio called Saara because initially most sellers from the middle east (which I know have nothing to do with north África, but go explain to a Brazilian from the 1920s that not every "Arab" is from the Sahara). On the other hand, I recently saw someone commenting on the popularity of Mate, a bitter infusion typical of the southern cone (southern Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay) in Syria .

@@dinhos2000 Very true. That's why I thank God every day that I'm an Igbo Nigerian! What a blessing! We don't sell our lands off to foreigners. It's not racist. Lebanese are doing the same as the Igbo in their own country. It's just that other Africans don't understand the importance of cherishing their blessed lands.. These foreigners don't come to Africa because they care. They come to exploit the low-wage system and make as much money as possible. None of that money goes back into the economy. We Igbo in Nigeria understand this, hence why we have a unwritten rule - Never sell your land to foreigners!

This lebanese man would not be accepted in Europe, nor saudi arabia nor some south american countries, he would not be able to trade as easily in those places. He knows it, he is grateful for that which Gambia has given him. Most likely he chose a good hardworking and business minded wife who complements him and helps the family business. He is not blinded by religiouis ideas and fanaticism. He attended business school. He works hard, he employs capable Gambian people, he doesnt sit back smugly, get intoxicated by alcohol and look down upon the local people. He is always learning. He knows he cant resettle in the Lebanon, his home is in Gambia so the comments about " not african" and "toubob" are weird. a lot to learn from just 22 and a half minutes. Very well done Gano
