I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

    Mr.saguto..could you be more explicit where the position of the Ball when you start your swing?.. you keep emphasizing the center but it doesn't look like it especially with the driver..bit confusing because it looks like your attacking off center!!

    I was so frustrated with the inconsistency in my ball striking that I almost gave up golf for good last year. I started watching Tom Saguto’s video’s and practicing his techniques - now I’m consistently shooting in the 80’s and working my way to shooting in the 70’s. Tom is the best golf instructor on KZread or anywhere else. Thank you, Tom.

    Mikey, I play in Boston , old Boston that is, in England. After a back injury in April my game tanked. I was shooting up in the 90's, it even peaked out at 110. By July I almost quit, until I started watching and practicing what Tom was teaching. Keep It Simple Stupid. I practiced in my garden, I practiced at the range. I am now back in the 80's thanks to Tom, hard work, and application. Golfer of the World Unite, we are brothers.

    😂 Tom u r the dude: I did study Ben Hogan over the last five months in Arizona. Back in North Dakota I found your golf school online. You have emulated Hogan to T. My wife and I are headed to Europe, and along the way will go to Saint Andrews for a tour. When I get back, I will join your golf school. You teach golf adding shenanigans. 😂Love it. Great stuff. I am 71 with (was a sore back) 🎉😅not anymore!!! My 7 iron added 10-15 yards. Had to warn the next county when using my illegal weapon the driver. On a roll Tommy! U and Hogan rock!!!

I'm very glad to know that you are benefiting from my instruction content and enjoying my teaching style. Mr. Hogan delivered - and continues to deliver posthumously - phenomenal and timeless instructional value, right?! But there are just so many misconceptions about Hogan’s swing out there - particularly within the realm of misunderstood or misapplied teachings - that have sadly relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration. I’m doing my best to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness, because if we can get Hogan right there are tremendously effective swing keys to be garnered. Wow! Another awesome video. So many golf instructors focus on all these little things, resulting in players thinking about 12 dozen different things as they approach the ball. You teach different aspects, but they all point to one, simple, concise, and most importantly, repeatable, way of striking the ball. Your videos are the best I've ever seen.

    This video really is the key 🔑 i watched it yesterday and practiced the move in my yard, no balls. I could tell it was working just by the way the club hit the turf and how it felt. Played at noon today and shot 78! (Par 70) no range before (irons only) it just felt natural! Im usually around 90+~ GIR is my weakness, usually 5 or less. Today, 10! Thanks for making great content, Tom! I sent a link to my son because you explain the swing so well.

    Yes! And you'll see the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening to varying extents during the backswings of many - dare I say most? - Tour players. Why? Because it facilitates a centered motion and puts the golfer in great position for a powerful delivery in the downswing without the need for any manipulations or precise timing that is very difficult to replicate swing after swing. Keep up the fantastic work and thanks again for your very supportive words! Tom

    @@SagutoGolf Look at the drawing and understand there’s a spiral coil of torque going up his right leg… keep watching and pay attention To the backswing and how the pressure in his trail foot increases and increases and increases and increases. The amount of force that he creates into that trail foot in the backswing this is good as it gets. Remember he had an extra spike put in that shoe. He goes all the way to the end of that force which has no choice but to go the other way. Fred Couples does the same thing on a different plane. Hogans whole downswing is driven From the bottom of his foot just like a pitcher… I understand making it simple but if you want to feel this just point your trail toe at the golf ball at a dress and swing and you’ll feel the torque build up for yourself.

    Of all your videos, this is one of my favorites. Even if we manage to properly coordinate everything else, optimum results only come with that proper "posting" of the front leg, allowing the hips to properly turn as you mentioned. I quickly realized why my power and speed were so much lower than I expected, and this video helped me finally put it all together. The combined technique and control made it surprisingly easy to generate a lot more speed and power. Thanks, Tom!

    Thanks again Tom I hit balls every day and I m able to hit that perfect shots with each club. It’s an amazing feeling and I’m hitting more of them. Have had the opportunity to play golf with Robin Byrd from the Senior tour here in Pompano FLA. He shot 3 66’s and 65 in a row was the #1 qualifier with a bogey free 67 to qualify for this year s Senior Open. I ve played with him about 10 times. It’s amazing to watch him hit the ball and play golf. That’s why I watch you and go to the range. I shoot around 75 and shot a round of 71 a few months ago playing with him. I m 70 and a 135 lbs. but because of you getting me going in right direction I m looking forward to shooting some rounds in the 60’s. RC

    Unfortunately, Thomas, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎 Mr. Hogan delivered phenomenal and timeless instructional value, right?! Hey Tom, I really have appreciated all of your videos. I have swayed in the golf swing my whole life and your the first person to teach a simple swing that allows me to be more centered over the ball. I am not sure if you remember the Natural golf swing taught by Moe Norman but this seems to have alot of the same mechanics and most people consider him to be the greatest ball striker ever. Thanks again!

    I am quite familiar with Mr. Norman and his legendary ball striking prowess, John. There are some similarities between his style and the Stack and Tilt system I teach as they both share the one-plane feature, but there are some definite differences as well. Regardless, eliminating the sway and centering your swing is going to result in noticeable improvements in ball striking, consistency, and having a repeatable shot shape, and it's ultimately going to give you more distance as well. The key is to put more weight on the lead leg side. I was thinking the weight shift happens after the downswing starts. Thats too late. It makes a HUGE difference if you start to put more weight on your front leg from the beginning. Thanks, Tom and Ben.

  • @SagutoGolf

    @SagutoGolf

    Жыл бұрын

    Absolutely! It really does simplify things, right? The need for a weight shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. Can you have some transfer of pressure into the trail side in the takeaway? Yes - as long as you keep your center intact and don't shift off the ball. But you best be back into your lead side by time you get to the transition. In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight to the top (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing. Thanks for your comment and keep up the great work! You are one of the most visible examples of this “non weight shift” on KZread. You make it look easy. So I’ve been working on it. But I still stand up at impact lol. I cannot bend my right knee at the correct time with the hands at impact lol. Hips still closed. Guess I got work on my left hip now :(

    Hey Tom, Shot a 90 yesterday. I was stacking and tilting hitting it crispy KFC. Drives 250 plus, one drive 300 plus. My putting needs to improve though. Wow - nice call, Jon, and I appreciate your kind words!! We're doing our best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness, because if we can get Hogan right there are tremendously effective swing keys to be garnered. I'm very glad to know that you are enjoying and benefiting from my instruction. Keep up the great work!! Tom

    Hey Tom, love your videos, bought your online lesson package. This has helped me tremendously in transitioning my swing to a more consistent swing and taught me a lot about the golf swing. I have 1 point that I feel like no one talks about when it comes to “swing like hogan” or any of the other old greats (Knudson, Snead). They swung flat lie angled clubs, about 4-6 degrees flat, with stiff shafts and heavy club heads. Wouldn’t changing our gear to what they swung, help use swing more like them? New modern clubs are light and have upright lie angles. This hinders use to swing flat and FEEL the club in our swing. Look up John Erickson or Bradley Hughes, they have brought up these points.

    I appreciate your kind words regarding the school and I'm very glad to learn of your progress! With regard to your equipment-related question, I'm a big advocate of golfers getting their clubs professionally fitted. To begin with, we're all unique in our physical attributes (arm length, leg length, torso length, hand size, etc.), so there is no reason that we should try to fit our respective swings to a stock grip size, shaft length, flex, swing weight, lie angle, etc. So first and foremost, let's have the equipment accommodate us and not vice versa. Beyond that, we can then explore different lie angles, shafts, swing weights, etc. to really dial the equipment into our swing. Some accomplished players in the school advocate for single-length clubs, so there's yet another potential option to add to the mix. My own fitting session was a real eye-opener to me, and it's documented in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qqRmxY-oibS4hqw.html Keep up the great work!! Tom PS: By the way, have you joined the SagutoGolf Members Forum (which is included with the online school) yet and begun engaging with other golfers in the school? If you've not already done so it only takes a minute or two to enroll - just go to your “My Courses” screen and you’ll see a link to get started. Once signed in you’ll be able to access in this fun and tremendously supportive community and participate in the ongoing great dialogue on a variety of swing- and game-related topics. You can start discussions, contribute to existing threads, post accomplishments and specific swing questions, make some new friends, and just share in the common bond and banter of golfers from around the world seeking to improve their games and help others to do the same. I monitor the forum and participate as well. I really think you will enjoy it!!

    Hi Matt, Here is a short episode featuring a fellow professional who joined me for a shot shaping demonstration at instructor camp in Miami: kzread.info/dash/bejne/e5ehrdqffN2fdbA.html You will note that there are only minor adjustments made to the setup in order to carve the ball in either direction or flight it differently; the basic swing mechanics do not change. You may be interested in looking into the SagutoGolf online school where you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only learning system for the full swing along with the finer points - including a recently added course on the S&T Shot Shaping Grid which is designed to: 1) help members read and interpret their ball flight, 2) understand how to make adjustments/corrections, and 3) learn how to carve shots in both directions. Here's a link if you would like to know more about the school - saguto.golf - and here's a link to my free mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” if you’re interested in checking it out: go.saguto.golf/ Tom

    @Bandit Baker - I'm in South Carolina, but I have phased out in-person instruction so I can further dedicate my efforts in support of the online school. I will, however, continue the V1 Swing Video Analysis lessons as they are instrumental to the progress of my school's members, and these can be done for any student from anywhere across the globe. This enables me to put my eyes on your swing and offer some very specific observations and corrective action plans if applicable. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolf And here's a link if you are not already enrolled in the school and would like to know more about it: saguto.golf I hope you're able to put this to the range test soon!!

    I found out this some months ago, that the feel I need is almost a reversed pivot in backswing and then push forward with hips and shoulders at downswing. When I accepted this basic thought my handicap dropped from 18 to 10 in two months.

  • @SagutoGolf

    @SagutoGolf

    Жыл бұрын

    It's really just the "feel" of front side loading, Gustav, as there's no such thing as a reverse pivot in this swing unless you allow your weight to shift back into your trail side. Anyway, that is some absolutely phenomenal improvement, so keep on doing what you're doing and have fun out there!! Tom

    Thanks Goldie - I'm glad you enjoyed it!! The net is a DIY job. It is approximately 7’ tall and 8’ wide. We used this video as a starting point - kzread.info/dash/bejne/X6Rlk9OsZKiYhJM.html - and then made some other minor PVC support structure modifications to suit our needs. We did not use PVC cement as this allows us to easily disassemble it if necessary. The netting we used is 10' x 10' golf cage impact net purchased from Amazon, and it differs from the screening material in the video. (By the way, if using a net like we did you probably won’t need the screw hooks that are mentioned in the video - bungees should suffice.) Also, I have a Real Feel 3x5 Country Club Elite® Golf Mat. You can visit them here - www.RealFeelGolfMats.com. If purchasing be sure to use coupon code "SAGUTOGOLF" (without the quotes and no spaces) at checkout to claim your special SagutoGolf discount on the Country Club Elite® series of mats. Tom

    Hey, Tom..great video..am I correct in thinking that if there were a post next to your left leg when you start, at the point where your left butt-pocket was pushed furthest left in the backswing it would knock into it? Certainly looks that way in the great video from behind(npi)? It seems way left of where I was thinking a 'full' pivot would take me..trying this, it feels a bit like a corkscrew coil/uncoil..looking forward to implementing it, thanks!

    Glad you enjoyed it, Kevin! Here's a related lesson video on this move that may provide additional clarity: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eY2GpcZwh7DVg6w.html Really, though, the online school is the best place to be learning this swing properly and sequentially in a comprehensive, structured environment. It's included with your enrollment and only takes a minute or two to join. Tom

    Thx again…So incredible. I love saying to myself that’s “crispy” or “mashed potatoes.” So fun. 3 months ago my right hip gave out, so much pain and spasms. I was throwing that right side of my lower body at the ball forever. It just had me so inconsistent, and slowly leading to inevitable injury at 57. “Golfers and Golfets,” injury will come if you don’t maintain weight left. So I slowly rehabbed and watched your videos and waited until I could swing the club. It’s been just night and day. Students need to stay on your the path… change takes time.

    Glad you enjoyed it, Christopher! In the Stack & Tilt swing system I teach you generally start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. Ahhh...the age-old question in search of some form of sage advice.............. I'm sorry to have to disappoint you, Brian…. First of all, ask ten different golfers and they may give you ten different answers. Secondly, the same golfer may give you a different answer this week than he gave last week depending on what he is feeling on a particular day! I'll quote the Stack and Tilt book's answer to this question: "You need a comprehensive overview of the motion to understand how to direct the various parts of the body to create the correct sequence of the swing. So consider it the brain that starts the swing. Clear intentions simplify execution." That probably doesn't help you very much, but the structured, sequential learning platform of my online school is designed to get you on the fast track towards owning this swing. This will give you that "comprehensive overview of the motion" the S&T guys are referring to, and so many folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result.
