This whole episode in the book of Judges is prophetically significant for spiritual Israel in that it alludes to World Wars one, two and three. The concubine was of Judah, representing Jews. The Benjaminites are nations with the Viking spirit, especially those of Teutonic origin.

Jeremiah was absolutely right when he wrote that ''the heart (of man/humans) is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it?'' The lustful life of homosexuality which the Creator never intended for His creatures to practice was very evident in this passage. It is a sin against the natural laws that God created within the hearts of humans. It is natural for people to get married and remain faithful to each other within the confines of marriage. So the concubine got raped all night long by ungodly lustful men until she perished. What a sad story of total depravity and the evil lustful men wouldn't repent of their crimes and were destroyed. Lust has nothing to do with love according to God and leads to sinful shameful practices and there are consequences to living in sin.

While a few facts were left out and perhaps a bit more overstated in terms of it relationship to other stories in the Jewish scriptures, it was well done. I have done a series on Bible stories you will never hear in Sunday School. The "historical books" are anything but boring. Not too much you cannot find there and most Christians are completely oblivious to them. Would like to see some of the other stories covered. Just the stories of the Kings of Israel (Northern Kingdom) would make for a great series.

The most shocking and disgusting thing about this whole story is the fact that a man threw away his concubine like a piece of trash knowing exactly what would happen to her and allowed her to be murdered in the most horrific way. And that a virgin daughter was also offered to a group of violent men knowing what would happen to her also. How is that overlooked so flippently. It has nothing to do with lack of governemnet, it is about men using women as things. The story is disgusting.
