Use a jig to position the work-pieces. Then you avoid the tedium of using the laser to determine position for each piece. Remember to square the jig to the laser path.

Adding a camera to Lightburn is a gamechanger. You can see your materials position in Lightburn. Allot easier lining up projects. Also I would buy or 3d print a Z axis adjuster so you can raise & lower your laser so you dont have to stack materials to adjust focus. Also get some sort of air assist to get rid of smoke & debris, to not interfere with the lasers strength when engraving or cutting.

One thing you can do is measure the piece of stock you are working with then recreate it in light burn with the square tool. You can then set that square to be a frame instead of a cutting layer. That way you can line up your text easily without worrying about it engraving off the edge of your work space. You then can click Shift and frame to have the laser frame where your work area will be. line up your wood withing that frame and you are good to go !

Try using a tool layer. Set it to the size of your material, and then you can design inside the 'boundaries' so to speak. Also, please wear the safety glasses. Blindness is permanent and can happen without warning. Enjoy your laser.

Check out the Frame button in lightburn. If you hold down the Shift key and hit either the circle frame or square frame buttons, the Laser will come on and frame the borders of your project. The location button also works well. Enjoy the laser!

You can use a jig or make a rectangle with the same measurements as the cedar in lightburn (make sure to pick different color for the rectangle). Add your text or image inside of that rectangle and align it how you want (I prefer to use the centering tools in lightburn), then check with framing, make sure the frame fits the cedar and if it does uncheck the output of the rectangle in lightburn and there ya go.

How I position for my Ortur is the draw a box and size it to the piece of wood. Do my text or whatever then center it into the box. Then group them together and have laser draw border with laser on low power. Set piece into that box and you are perfectly centered. Have a great day!

For focusing the aluminum rod should go under the black housing of the laser, not under the lens. The old non-pro version of the LM 2 did focus under the lens, but not this one.

Goodmorning Zoe, looks like you have a great tool there. The programing reminds me of the years I programed and ran an abrasive waterjet in a machine job-shop. If I could make a suggestion that might save you time and effort, try drawing the outline of your workpiece first, then, your interior will already be positioned.

This is probably the most misinformed review of the OLM2 Pro ever, the focus adjustment section was so wrong it was cringemaking, the focus guide is placed between the alloy body of the laser module and the workpiece, not under the lens. by my estimation she was out of focus by possibly 12-15mm. And focusing by stacking the workpiece's C'mon!! Safety glass's and safety features, forget it. WAtch other real educated reviews on U-Tube, theres plenty of them. I am a OLM2 Pro owner, bought with my hard earned cash and watching this was hard.

If you would use the scale around the perimeter you would not be positioning the text off your project. That scale is in metric. It’s easy to convert to SAE measurements. If the cedar dimensions are know then you simply have to position it and boom…. Production etching.

Hi their , sorry to state this but you are using lightburn and the laser unit the wrong way , would be better that you place the wood item down (one piece at a time not stake up) and then adjusted the laser height using the tool that it touchs the laser head and the wood price ( no gaps) this would allow a better focus cut or engrave , also you can make a box around the text that measure the size of you art work , but only use it to guild the area ( turn the feature to cut on off , setting are on the right side in lB where you adust power and speed) hope this help for updated videos , keep up the good work and video coming :)

I'm reading the comments here. I've gotta say that I think they know how to be safe and I don't need to push my views on others. I think she did a great job as a first time user and to be honest, the very fact that she didn't "Focus Properly" impressed me even more with the outcome! Did you cringe viewers even think of that? I just ordered a Longmill the other day with a laser. Too bad she didn't have the laser installed on her CNC machine. I would have loved to see that.

Some of the comments I've seen bring up a great point, and I think you're missing the intention possibly. As a KZread presenter, there's almost a social responsibility when using tools such as this to follow good practices so that others learn from them. The comments regarding safety glasses are important...while the laser shield is meant to be a first defense, like any safety device wearing proper eye protection is imperative. Her putting them on helps teach others that are getting into Diode lasers 'hey I should be using safety glasses'. Also those comments expressed (rightfully) concern about Zoe's eyesight. I'd go one further and mention that a good venting system is another good thing to mention. That all being said, I was eyeing the Shapoko myself and wondering if a laser attachment to that would be handy. I liked the video though as it taught me some cool tricks for my own lightburn work on the diode laser I just got

Although I liked the reason for the video I wish you took more time with what you are doing. First is they supply safety glasses for a reason you should wear them. Second, you need to have your pieces in the same plane all of the time as your centering was off and the margins were not the same.

Hello from Norwich city UK, I run a craft & design business one-man-banD "me", I have been looking at purchasing a laser design printer, I make a lot of religious designs like Jesus and Mother Mary and various crosses, and also different pictures like eagles etc etc , how easy is it to download software and use on bigger peices of timber like 12" x 10" inches, and can I laser onto slate please? Kind Regards from Ray in the UK

It would have been a lot faster if you just used a marker..

The focus is from the bottom of the body of the laser, not from the bottom of the lens
