[HUAWEI SHARE 3.0 ON THE MATEBOOK X PRO 2019]
The Huawei MateBook X Pro 2019 is such an iterative sequel to its 2018 forerunner that I almost passed up the review sample when Huawei offered it. But then I remembered how enchanted I'd been, at the PC's unveiling event, by all the possibilities unlocked by the innocuous-looking "Huawei Share" sticker on the chassis. A few weeks with the MateBook X Pro 2019 has convinced me that Huawei has built the best interface for sharing content across mobile and laptop devices - an interface I think every PC maker should emulate going forward.

It's aggravating that PC's haven't added NFC, which is super cheap and would make "beaming" much more common, especially with Bluetooth 5 adding WiFi Direct for larger transfers.
Love the small details in this video!! Like at 4:40 your're talking about the time it takes and you show a picture of a clock on the laptop. Incredible! Love it!
I can always reminded whenever I watch your videos how great you are as a speaker, and also how creative you are with the cutting/editing (like the Star Trek scene). You make it look so easy! High quality content.

Me!
Personally on Linux I've KDE connect which allow me to send files from my computer to my android device and vice versa. It allows me to get the notifications from my android device on my computer and vice versa. And there is more, I can control the mouse and keyboard from android device, send SMS from my computer, control my music player of my computer from my phone, having the same clipboard synchronized between my computer and my android device, browse the filesystem of my android device from my computer, check the battery percentage of my phone from my computer and loads of more available. The only downside is it works currently only trough Wi-Fi but the team behind KDE are developing a bluetooth compatibility.
Thank you for the 60 fps videos, which seems to be too much asked or unknown by even bigger channels! You are king!
Compared to the typical tech video these days, your production style is something really timeless! It's not overly bombastic, nor is it lacking in style. And it never contains some sort of cringey pop cultural meme reference (Star trek being an exception of course). I'll always look forward to watching your reviews.

Funny thing is, Linux users, especially KDE users have had this stuff for YEARS it's called KDE Connect It seamlessly syncs your phone and laptop's clipboards (which is INCREDIBLY USEFUL), routs incoming notifications, can do the usual replying to messages etc on the desktop, can double as a presentation remote (works even while phone's screen locked, with the volume keys ( slick AF )) and can share any files from the laptop with a right-click on any file and from the phone to the laptop via an entry in the sharesheet

Airdrop too. Just have WiFi on. You don’t actually have to be connected to a network. You don’t need to open any apps on the receiving device but you can put the photos directly into apps like PowerPoint. It’s a bit funny to see everyone going crazy over this when it’s not really that much better than existing methods. The touch is a nice little addition though, props to them- but air drop is simply swipe, tap and you you can send to multiple people over distance.
Very honest as usual!
Your videos and all you say in it makes sense. 👍
Gotta admit, that’s a pretty sweet feature. I would use this all the time.
Maybe this would be a whole new level of taking your info to dear Mr. Xi XD
This is awesome. Want it on more phones and laptops. Don´t have to stop there. Desktop can use this functionality as well.
I have a normal Matebook 13 and I love it for the same reason.
Loving that Star Trek: Beyond wallpaper 🥳
This looks great! I use Join (a Pushbullet like app), but this looks incredibly seamless.
About time they redid this feature and made it better... back in the day we had Bluetooth file transfer and you are right, this is much better... but I want them to take it a step further and when you touch your phone on the NFC sensor, it brings up a menu on your computer or phone and gives you more options
Thanks Michael for covering this! I agree that NFC needs to be standard to laptops, tablets and all PCs as a whole. As much as cloud is nice, there is a limitation on it. So having an easier and seamless way to transfer contents between devices locally is still something we should perfect in 2019. I felt sad that we only seem to care about cloud nowadays and forgot the basics to make it right. If NFC is standard on PCs, then Windows 10 might get more motivation to baked this feature and try to make it compatible to as much Android devices possible. They are now already doing this with Your Phone app on Android and the native Share feature in Windows 10.
The new 2:1 aspect ratio is amazing!!!
Oh the memories with the perfect web OS, the phones, the tab, everything was so perfect and yet ignored. I do want that form factor to comes back.
I miss webos with the TtS which could have been improved with new features on top of internet pages share. Thanks for the video

2:59 it's delights me that he's so delighted!
if every laptop has that feature we would be one step closer to seamless file transfer.. like how movies would show the character simply drops the phone to a some sort of pad and data or features starts to pop up
I've just used Bluetooth for sharing images between my phone and desktop or laptop. Generally proves pretty fast and trouble free for me, and has the upside of letting my Android phone, Linux laptop and Windows desktop work together a good bit better.
Yes we want this feature in all laptops...
I agree with Mr Mobile is on this.
I use BT for small files and wires for large if I am at home I have a networked drive that anything can talk to, even Palm PDAs (not sure about Appel products actually)
Thats cool... Well done Huawei.
HP Elitebooks have something very similar using NFC, that also lets you lock and unlock device see machine specs and much more. Also Server hardware is doing this as well Dell does it on their new server series as well.
I thought u went full pewdiepie at the beginning there lol
The problem with cloud services that you need data to do it and it’s depend on the speed of your connection. If the phones manufacturers agree on a NFC international protocol to make it easy to share files on deferent platforms
As a fan of NFC, I wish this could be on everything. Even if I had to buy a little pad similar to a Qi charger, I'd happily do so if the execution was as smooth as Android Beam.
this is very handy tbh. I imagine it will be smoother and faster with years..
Within the same network, just setup a sync folder. Easier than physically tap and no limit of photo, files, video and the quantities.
Never really liked Huawei products before but this is super cool!
NFC had and has amazing potential. I remember when NFC started becoming a standard feature across phones, many companies made sharing features like this between phones. The issue is that they made it proprietary. Samsung between Samsung, etc. Android tried to make it standard across all android phones but never prioritized the execution nor did they advertise it. It was a poorly implemented optional feature. So consumers didn't even know about it. It ended up fading into obscurity. Very sad indeed. Hopefully companies can see the usefulness of such a feature and stop trying to compete with proprietary methods. Some features will never succeed unless they are an open standard.
Nothing against MKBHD but your videos are so much better and yet you have nothing like his subscriber count. Not fair.
Similar features are available on Linux using an application called "KDE Connect"

Yeah that's pretty damn awesome.
Using local networking on my Windows PC and Solid Explorer on my Android works great (as long as you have home wifi, that is).
Sharing files between big and small devices is something I do once in a blue moon as a developer. I care way more about sharing messages, phone calls, and content (like twitch/youtube). But that's just the way I use my devices.

Does the NFC tag work with Bluetooth headphones? Because, for me at least, trying to connect Bluetooth audio to my XPS 15 has always been a pain that usually requires removing and re pairing.
This really does make the Huawei product line look super compelling. It may not be for everyone but that share feature alone would streamline every part of my life.
The antenna band on the Surface Go has a location for the NFC transmitter since the casing is magnesium. Hopefully this is a sign from MS.
Still what I get really deeply stunned is how far ahead seemed to be web os. and more over how much does not count being ''the Best'' if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time.

This is very interesting. I have always found Apple’s Continuity and wireless data transfer to be absolutely fantastic. AirDrop has been around for a long time, and Continuity features such as remote hotspot activation, calls, messages, texts, etc has been around almost as long. It was a couple of years ago that Apple introduced the Universal Clipboard, automatic sharing of passwords and pins to nearby devices (e.g. your friends iPhone is looking to connect to the WiFi. You get a prompt on your iPhone to share the pin. No pin is shown, but your friends iPhone is connected to the WiFi) and better handoff of tasks. Ever since, I have not looked back. Much like the Galaxy Buds Samsung recently announced as their answer to AirPods, I will not be getting the Huawei MateBook Pro laptop and a Huawei phone, but I am happy more people get to experience this fantastic way of doing things. I am all for great advancements in user experience to spread the industry.
in surface go there is a nfc chip, but there is no any application is using nfc, i wonder is there any way can do what huawei do
Hey, have you tried out KDE connect which arrived to the linux world years back. I have used it for quite a while and I feel it is more intuitive than Huawei's solution.

Question: does it work seamlessly like what the video shows? Like if you use any other Android device with NFC ?
I'd probably end up installing LInux and GSconnect to do the file sharing.
It's a great feature, but I just use Instashare to easily transfer files between my Android phone and my MacBook ( I stopped using iPhones years ago )
Here's the contact info for this laptop and phone: consumer.huawei.com/en/support/hotline/ I couldn't find any mention of the Huawei Share on the x Pros on sale on Amazon. They need the Huawei phone to go with it and it has to have EMUI 9 or above which you cannot get in the US.
Try SHAREit which is available on all platforms. It enables you to transfer files between different devices very quickly regardless of brands and operating systems.
