It's important to note that most benchmark tools don't take multithreading(exclusive to X86 architecture) into consideration when calculating single-core performance, while ARM SOC's can't use multithreading as they use RISC architecture.. Long story short the new apple silicon is great for day to day usecase but falls off when it comes to sustained load. Considering it's a first gen product there'll be loads of improvements for sure!!

M1 chip has its own advantages in vs code programs take time on windows to display the result but in macbook air m1 it never takes a extra millisecond too. Its very fast on heavy programs too. Battery life is incredible.

I mean if you keep it side by side with something like the Ryzen 5950x or the threadripper 3990x I highly doubt the M1 will be able to beat them in single threaded performance and the Mukti core performance would be way out of its ballpark.....

I am using MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015) still works fine with decent battery life ( 4 to 6 hr ) I see no reason to shift as of now as it gets the job done and already have the latest Mac OS. But if you are considering new one buy the Air it's worth, probably I will also buy once its dead and requires more than 5 to 7K to repair. Even their was no M1 out still I would have purchased air again. Speakers, MIC , Video calls, performance, ease of use, there is no going back to windows after Mac OS once you are used to shortcuts and gesture.

I have the same.... but buyed it late in 2017. Still working fine.... Just spilled water on it and got it fixed..
