I always knew this as a kid. Everybody quotes what Kobe said it was for but it always was a message and to Mike… But also his Dad. JellyBean (Kobe’s Dad) played with #23 in Philly. Kobe was hyper competitive and he was putting the world on notice: “I’m a new animal and the same beast.”

Everybody knew what 24 stood for. Everybody and their momma could understand what Kobe was trying to say. And as good as he was he wasn’t a step above Mike.
