Who are we?
We're Eamon and Bec, a Canadian couple who previously lived and traveled full-time in our self converted Sprinter Van!! When the pandemic hit in 2020 we made the difficult decision to abandon our van in Africa and fly home to Canada. Now we're here... living at a cabin in the Canadian wilderness!

Guys, I got into the habit of telling my mom I loved her at the end of our calls, and when we leave each other. She loves it! At first she thought it was odd, but now she's into it, and she seems happier. She's a widow, and I know at times she feels alone. By the way, I love Bob too!

I've built a many of ikea things in my house. Dressers, bookshelves, tables, chairs. It is best, to build solo as a singular brain. Too many brains and ideas and opinions make it bad and make things confusing. I have not had any trouble building any of my items because, I don't let my sig other help me LOL

When you plan to build something complex from ikea, the most important part is that you make sure you are able to focus enough to see all the details in the instructions. This is why Eamon fails a little bit, he tries to think for himself which is generally good but with ikea you have to really take in the instructions, not make your own plan in your head. I got my degree in IKEA a long time ago. You have to follow the booklet that’s in the box the crap came with. Each booklet will be slightly different. That’s how they f*ck with you. I also refuse to build ikea with my husband!!! 🤣 😂 So not worth it! You just have to take you time and remember to breathe and when you get frustrated go break something else!

Yeah, because there’s always some other configuration that any given piece might also be used in (necessitating different holes or whatever). I have come to really enjoy IKEA assembly, but you have to become one with the instructions and not wing anything. If I can’t see it what they mean at first, I’ve learned to sit with the booklet longer rather than trying to figure it out by playing around with the gear too much.

Ikea drawer help: there are two sets of holes on the actually TRACK that you screw into the cabinet. When you are moving the track up and down to different holes in the cabinet, you can also make smaller adjustments by screwing into different holes on the track itself. There is a top set of holes and a bottom set. Hope this helps! You guys are awesome.

Your drawer build... OMG. So there's exactly, two way to set up the structure on the drawer face (one if it's the first down - the other if it's middle or top) and three way to setup the slides. These rules are written on 3 sets of explanations!!! It took me 2 bottoms drawers to understand the catch. My husband had one cabinet and one drawer totally mismounted, throwed him out, did the rest.... SO MUCH EASIER ALONE!

Cabinetmaker tip: assemble everything first then install in place. Also clamp your two cabinets together at the gables when screwing them to each other or to a panel, use a countersink (shallow one so you don't poke through) and a shallow pan head screw. This avoids saw dust from getting in between the gables and leaving little gaps between the cabinets.

I LOVE the green kitchen! It's beautiful! It's different than the sterile white that's trendy right now. I love seeing the extended family! I also wanted to tell you guys that I stepped out of my comfort zone and booked a rafting trip at Owl in August!! It's my first solo trip, and car camping adventure!! Thanks for the inspiration! Love you guys so much!

White kitchens actually aren't in style anymore - colorful ones like this are. But people are so behind on trends that people are now putting in white kitchens with that godawful white marble thinking it looks good lol.

This isn't ALL I took from the video but I wanted to say thank you for showing setting out the outdoor cushions after having them inside LOL we take ours in most nights cause it rains a lot in Ontario and seeing that made me feel better about it cause my heart wants cute outdoor cushions to be out all the time and for them to be clean with no effort. So small but put a stupid smile on my face.

Great color! And IKEA kitchen cabinets rock (although there IS a learning curve - we had some of those moments too)! We redid our older rustic cabin kitchen a few years ago. Best decision ever - well, maybe second to having a washer/dryer there for the first time!

Bob! I like the green/gray. Because you have an open plan, if you put a window air conditioner up in the loft, it will gently cool the house and get rid of the humidity.

My husband & I are finishing up nesting into our new home. We moved in February & have been waiting for ikea cabinets since then for our mud room. They were never in stock anywhere so we went with a different ikea cabinet system & he was putting it all together & our new neighbors moved in that same evening. I was throwing trash away in the communal alley & our new neighbor said to me, “ is your husband ok cause it seems like he swears & yells a lot?!” I said, “well he’s putting together ikea cabinets” my neighbor abruptly said, “say no more totally understand the torture that is Ikea” ✌️❤️🌞

You guys did great! I’ve been researching the “IT” color for my remodel after the destructive ice storm last February destroyed my cabinets.. Griege is the winner. Good choice, Eamon!. But putting together IKEA furniture give me such a bad case of anxiety so I think y’all rock!
