Hello Scotty I have had three brand new Ford focus cars until they stopped making them in 2018. I drive 140 miles mostly freeway a day to one of the big three engineering facilities. I change my oil every 10 to 15 thousand miles. I never had a problem with them even when they got easily over a hundred thousand miles. One 2014 made it to 120.000 miles before the cvt trans went out and Ford gave me $$$. 2nd 2018 focus brand new made it to 180.000 miles before a deer took it out. 3 Rd I just bought another 2018 with 50.0000 miles and it's going strong. My mobil one extended performance motor oil does a great job at keeping my engines going. Do you have any insight why the oil holds up for me other than I don't have start and stop driving. Just sharing my story

It sees 150mph no problem. I do have a good amount of mods now but it was even quick stock! Focus is built really well. There are videos out there proving how great Mobil 1 is for your engine. A few miles a year should be an EV. The gas car still needs an oil change every six months and to be serviced one a year. You could probably take the EV in every few years to have brakes and trires checked. With one peddle driving, brakes do not get used but do need to cleaned every couple of years. My Sienna costs 20X what my Leaf does for service. And... with so little driving your could just use your regular plug for a trickle charge.

Fast charging your BEV all of the time, because who has time to be waiting around at a charging station for forty-five minutes or more, quickly shortens the lifespan of the battery....and, at anywhere from $10,000 to $25,000 plus for a new battery, these things will never be in my driveway simply because they are not worth all of the hassle!

And, if we're talking about those brands known as BMW, Lucid, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, etc if you have to ask how much, then you more than likely cannot afford it! And, there's no way that vehicles that are expensive are rocking an $8,000 battery! And, while we're on the subject of being a hassle, ICE vehicles can sit in a driveway for a millennium without ever spontaneously just bursting into flames like BEVs have their various track records of doing. And, I'm not even talking about the vehicle being plugged in when they could go up in reflaring flame ups! Save your explanations. You might enjoy living life on the wild side but I don't! Maybe if you constantly drive with range anxiety on a warm day. With some normal spirited driving on a cold day tbat 350 miles range is more like 200-250 on a brand new battery. With various accessories running and some spirited driving you're lucky to get 100 miles out of it. Same car a few years later you're lucky if you get 50-75. Batteries are no where near as cheap as you claim. A branf new long range battery back for something like a Ford or any other large pack is still $20-30K. So that $3000+ you "saved" on gas (if you're not paying for charging), goes out the window. That's not even considering the huge depreciation of the vehicle itself. Or the insane repair bills, of any crashed EV...if it doesn't turn into a fireball.

And in 8+ years, when there are 100+ unique battery packs in EV's what happens when your manufacturer doesn't have a battery available for your old car? You can't make the batteries ahead of time as a replacement part, it's going to degrade just sitting there - so it has to be just in time. Then how long would you wait, if they even want to do it for you? The pack itself could cost a couple thousand $ just to ship to your dealer.

Toyota hybrid combustion engines have a chain, not a belt, which is a lot more reliable and durable. Most of the electricty is generated when braking and when driving at higher speeds (80km/h+)when the momentum of the car contributes to the efficient charging of the battery. There's no clutch either which eliminates another wear component. Since the electric motor does most of the braking, when anticipating and driving smoothly, the brakepads and discs will last you virtually forever!

DC fast chargers can fully charge a vehicle in 45 minutes...which is the time it takes to fill my ICE car from fumes 9 times over! The tech is simply not there to make EV cars worthwhile for the average driver. If that weren't enough, the supply of lithium and cobalt, needed to make the lithium ion batteries in products ranging from cell phones to EV cars, is extremely limited when compared to the supply of oil. If the environmentalists are correct and our current oil supply will be depleted in 300 years then how long will the global lithium supply last if every vehicle on the road became an EV?

I wouldn't want to buy a charger for my house only to raise my electric bill?? Nope! I watch Wham Bamm videos and a very high percentage of Teslas that are involved in an accident are TOTALED! I live in Australia and last month did a 3450klm trip on my holidays. I stayed at 6 different locations in 3 states and only noticed 1 EV charging station {Tesla}. On some parts of this trip service stations were 150klm apart, Australia is so remote, after this trip I would only replace my current car {2016 WRX} with a new ICE model. Also, electricity prices have increased 30% in the last 2 years in Sydney so an EV is not that appealing for cost savings. Might consider a hybrid at best, but at 65 yeas old I see an ICE car for the years I have left driving.

Hey Scotty, I bought my first ev in 2015......82 miles range and no chargers installed anywhere on the highways and byways. The range anxiety was too much. 6 months later, I went to a 2016 Chevy volt PHEV with 53 miles range and a gas engine @ 40 mpg to get me anywhere using gasoline. My leased VW e-golf was handed back and no fees, I did not need to payoff the lease. (that was kind of magical) I drove happily for 120,000 miles, half on electric and half on gas. It was a great car. Then in January 2022 I just happened to see a 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5............I had done my research and it had / has 303 miles of EPA range........all electric. It can charge in 18 mins giving me 225 miles of range. It can power my home when the utility company fails. It came with 2 years of free charging at EA stations and the stations were every 200 miles on all major USA highways. Things sure came a long way from 2015. I now have over 52k miles and 2 years under my belt. THE best car I ever bought or drove. It cost me a net of $45k out the door after incentives. It has saved me US$7,000 in gasoline.......so I guess the car cost me $38k net. NOW, charging at home is less than 1/2 gasoline equivilent. I will own the car until my death in 30 years from now and the net cost......net cash flow for the family is like minus US$20k. Every gas car cost me: 2008 Saab......US$35k net out the door cost PLUS fuel.......$10k.......plus maintenence $10k less zero trade in after 8 years..................The net cash flow cost of that ICE car........US$55k. BOY, evs are soooooo much cheaper...............so much nicer to drive...................so fricking fast. If I had a crystal ball, in 2023, I would have bought my Tesla model 3 RWD, 272 miles per charge car for US$30k net out the door. EVs are so much better and cheaper than ICE. 2024 Acura RDX.......very close to US$50k out the door and you got to buy shitloads of expensive and poisonous gasoline every week....ouch.

Hello from Georgia(country), You say hybrids are the future of cars. How they hold up over time if they keep shutting down every time you stop at a red light or traffic. Or you step on gas engine starts and imidiatly revs up. And i know most wear comes from the start of the engine. Also I'm interested, how prius manages to stay so reliable. And how hybrids keep their engines warm while being shut down half of the time. (Sorry for bad English 😂)

On a lot of hybrids the electric generator will start the motor up, which is a lot less stressful than a starter on the motor. In the Pacifica they put power directly to the crankshaft. they also tend to use multiple separate cooling/heating systems to keep everything in the right temp zone. The Chrysler Pacifica hybrid has 4 or 5 different coolant reservoirs

So, for a lease, im ok with it. Granted, I've seen many older hybrids still out there, but who knows how much they may have paid in repairs (maybe none). Nah, hybrids are less mechanically complex and less moving parts. Asides from the gas savings, which is a lot, hybrids have smoother rides, less moving parts than ice vehicles, no alternator, no timing belt, and the electric motors takes a lot of the wear off the engine so the engine will last a lot longer. If the battery does somehow died, if only like $3k to replace. Whereas a gas only transmission or engine dies...

The EV does 90% of the driving and it is fun to drive, lots of power and a low center of gravity. We only charge it on our level 2 at home. We at not interested in longer trips using the undependable charger system, each with their own payment system. The Sienna does long trips, for carrying more people and stuff trips, and locally for shopping on the two days a week when my wife takes the Leaf to work. The Sienna cost 20 times what the Leaf does to Service. In 3 years with one checkup a year, the Leaf has had a new cabin filter and its brakes cleaned (pads at 90%) since we use one pedal driving. The Leaf will last us until the better batteries arrive and the charger system improves stardardizing on the Testa system.

everyone likes their vehicles loud, but the putter of a petroleum engine does serve an important safety purpose. Pedestrians and others in the area of the vehicle can hear it as it approaches, and they are better able to track its movements as it crosses through the area they currently occupy. Silent operation can be particularly deadly when electric vehicles are traveling at low speeds. In response, the U.S. National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) has set a new rule that all hybrids and electric vehicles must emit some sort of audible warning sound at speeds below 18.6 mph. The feature has already made its way into dozens of models produced in the past few years, most often in the form of artificial road noise. Regulators expect the rule to prevent around 2,400 injuries each year. Even still, millions of vehicles already on the road lack the feature, making it possible for a pedestrian to be struck without any prior warning.

These Norway comments are seriously some of the dumbest I’ve ever read. You people understand that a tiny country of 5.1 million people doesn’t even feasibly come close to comparing to the US population of 331.9 million people right?? The “EV future” delusion seriously knows no limits.

You people who comment about Norway do realize that when compared to the US population of 331.9 million people, Norway’s population of 5.1 million is completely negligible right??

Hybrids are a trick unless the price is close to an ICE vehicle (rarely so). Scotty mentioned in the video Ford is trying to lower this gap and rightly so. Compare the cost of a regular Rav-4 to a hybrid. The hybrid costs more up front (used or new) than the ICE version. You would have to drive the hybrid for at least 5+ years to make up for the difference in cost with only a meager increase in mileage with the hybrid.

Very well done video. Lots of interesting info. I don’t see how we can go all BEV by 2035. Good point about most households having 2 cars in the family. Are people going to go for 2 BEVs with 2 charging stations? There’s a lot to figure out…

😂 I seen a guy caring a Honda Generator in his trunk. When the EV would run out of power,HE would start the generator up and plug in and charge his car 😂

how long before that generator catches on fire? EVs are an insanely stupid idea from the people who want to tear down all the hydro dams while the rest of the world is building them.

First up enjoy your videos, I'm a Australian but allot off your content applies here as well, next I have come to a conclusion on electric vehicles, living rural hybrids are the best option, even in the city I still consider hybrids the best option. What you presented in this video is basically what I have come to the conclusion on EV's and applies here in Australia as well.

The correct answer is to have OPTIONS to meet the needs of each person. My GF lives in an apartment complex so charging an EV is an impossibility. And she only drives a couple thousand miles per year, so even if she could charge an EV the price difference would take a decade to make up in gas savings. When she was recently shopping for a car, the only options were gas or regular hybrid (which is basically just "fuel efficient gas". She ended up with a not-very efficient "gas" (not hybrid) car. Because it meets her needs. Me on the other hand? I drove 21,500 miles last year. 90% of my trips are reasonably local distance, but 10% of my miles come from long haul trips... Like 400 to 600 miles in a single day where minutes matter in terms of getting from one place to the next. Full gas (non-hybrid) is a no-go because I need serious fuel economy. Full electric is a no-go because when I have those 600 mile days, even if the infrastructure is there, I need my mid-trip fill-up to be under 5 minutes. Even a 15 minute partial charge-up on an EV would be unacceptable. Especially if I had to do 2 or 3 on one trip. So I was only looking at Hybrid or PHEV. I decided on PHEV as the happy medium because I can charge it every night in my garage and 90% of the time, this is good enough to make it so I use less than a pint of gas and many days zero gas. But when I have my longer runs, I can have my 2 minute fill-up rather than several 30 minute charge-ups - and zero concern about whether charging stations will be available. I expect to save enough gas on the 90% local trips being all-EV mode to justify the higher cost of the PHEV over a traditional hybrid. OTOH, for those who have a house with a garage and who rarely ever are going more than 150-200 miles in a day but who are frequently having to commute longer distances than what a PHEV has for all-electric range (like maybe a 40 mile each way commute), a Tesla or other BEV might make a lot of sense. The future of the car industry is NOT "gas only" OR "hybrid" OR "PHEV" OR "BEV" ONLY. The future of the car industry is "gas only" AND "hybrid" AND "PHEV" AND "BEV" all being available options so that each consumer can have their needs met.
