A customer talked me into taking on a very difficult job. It took some creativity and engineering to make it work.

Well said!
What do you mean you don’t’ recommend it? Isn’t that one of the joys of any job? Isn’t it the learning curve? Holly cow adventure IS the spice of life and you learn something.

It was pretty bad, not sure which was worse the hair or the actual hide.
Gotta do whatcha gotta do! Great results! I hope she is happy and if she ever wants more they are flat patches! LOL

She was good with them. Thanks
Looks great. I must admit you scared me when you decided to run them at 100% power.

Me too…lol. It was a good guess though
Why is there a market for hats with pre-applied, blank leather patches? This seems like a hassle for anyone to use. Excellent work at MacGyvering a solution!

They are made to use an actual hot iron brand on. The lady didn't have access to a brand with the letters and asked me to make lettering that looked like it was done with an actual cattle brand.
Impressed with the ingenuity! Can you post an Amazon link to an acceptable fire extinguisher to use with the lasers (I have an XTool D1 10W)?

Thanks. I actually made a video on the topic and offered some choices. These are the two that I use, I selected them because a laser fire would be closer to an automotive fire than a kitchen grease fire. These are what I have and links are in the description. kzread.info/dash/bejne/e41m1s-YgKanoNY.html

@@TheClackShack Thank you so much!
How do you get rid of the burnt smell after it’s engraved 😵💫

It was 100 mm/s at 100 % for 2 passes, as I stated in the video. It was a guess but it worked.
So I run mine at 80 and 80 with 2 passes (engraving) and then 3 passes at 100 and 8 (Cutting) when I do my hair on hide. (xtoold1 20W) I also enclose them in a plastic tub with a box of baking soda (the style for the fridge with the coffee filter cover)

Cool. I ran the 10 watt in these and the settings worked. It turned out to be a good guess. I should have done them outside….lol

What are your settings with no hair and how long do you leave them in the tub for? Thanks for your help.

Curious how thick is the leather? I've been working with a lighter weight veg tan (3-4oz) and a 10W which will cut pretty easily. Great idea about the tub and baking soda!

I also use 3-4 oz and even without hair, it stinks. I have a 20w. Just want to try everyone's feeds/speeds and see what I like best.
"hey honey this stinks, here smell it"!!! Great job. Now do 100 more ;) JK!! 🐄

It wasn't pleasant...lol
If someone asked me to engrave some patches, I would not have expected them to already be applied to the product. LOL I might have gone to Hobby Lobby and grabbed a piece of leather to find the numbers. How flat were you able to get the hats? I did leather 1 time. Oh the smell. And that had no hair. LOL

The patch was actually flat where the engrave was going. My versatile hat holder did a good job
