I fully agree. I rarely comment on anything, but this KZread channel is top-notch in all respects and worth being recognized.
"The speed is accelerating and getting faster." This is the exact reason some days fish will hit finesse baits right at the boat when you're speed cranking in the end of a cast. People think, holy shit how did that happen? When they need to be thinking I'm taking off the drop shot and throwing for reaction the rest of the day.
thats wild in clear water
秦さーん!🎉😂俺たちの時とテンション変わらんやん😊 ジェフさんと秦さんのコラボ最強🎉🎉🎉
Very cool! Thank you for creating and sharing this video! My father used to do something similar many years ago with an inline buzzbait and a cane pole. The figure-eight is famous in musky fishing. Very cool to see it work with bass as well, especially in such clear water. Just amazing to watch!
Great interview, thanks guys.
I have read Mike Bucca, the maker of Bull Shad baits likes to really rip and crank fast his baits to get bass to react and bite. Thanks, excellent video.
I watch that dudes KZread all the time. He rules, very funny too! Crazy that you guys linked. Good video!
Awesome interview! I love Hata! Total stick.
Awesome video Geoff. He was the reason I bought a Dowez Swimmer!
Helluva demonstration, thanks for sharing
this stuff is a whole new world for me thank you for focusing on this type of fishing
Great tips❤👍🏻
Was trout fishing at Chaparral lake in Scottsdale several years ago and witnessed a young boy doing figure 8 along the shore. Saw him catch several nice bass.
This is a fantastic video. I can't wait to try it. Went out a few weeks ago and I see where this technic would work great. I always wanted to use swim baits but no luck. Maybe this be a game changer. Can you do a video with the cheapest equipment to start. Thank you
That’s an amazing technique 🔥🔥🔥
Dope!! Would have been cool to meet him when he was in town!
Knowledge is power and equals Big Fish!!!
Oliver Ngy has been doing it too. don't remember when he started, but I know it's been at least a couple of years. Hata definitely proves that personality goes a long way too. Even lunker bass notice it.
That was cool. TY
The mid retrieve speed acceleration was a thoughtful observation.
Legit watched this work when I was trying to get grass off my sebile after a long cast on lake Murray, SC this year!! Thought it was a “one time fluke” but this changes my perspective lol. Great content, as always.
Very cool technique! 🤙
Pretty cool technique! Kind of similar to Jigger Pole Fishing.
Bro! Hata is the man! That’s dope you can speak the language too.
Great video again. Love your channel. I am going to Biwa this coming May 2025, and wondering if you have any advice on that trip, in terms of where to stay, other lakes to fish, or anything else that comes to mind? Keep the vids coming!
HATAAAAA TAKUMAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! Legendary Japanese bass angler.
Japanese Geoff at it again! PSYCHO!
Amazing
I didn't realize it had a name, but I've been doing similar for years on any species that follows my bait without biting before I run out of line to retrieve. I can confirm it works on large mouth, white bass, and as of yesterday a small gar.
Great video! Wondering if you tried the figure 8 when you were musky fishing in MN? Very similar, yet you were quick to point out that 8 trapping is on the surface. Thanks to Hata for the breakdown.
Thinking outside the box produces well. I always say, think outside the box. You never know when you will figure out the next best way to catch a fish.
Been doing this for over 20 years, learned it on accident then saw some guys fishing for pike doing it and found out it was an actual thing.
I always enjoy your videos Geoff . I’ve seen Small mouths attack like that in a cell or pack. Your right about when you have a follower and just freeze. I’m guilty of that . I’ll try to keep that technique in mind when I get a aggressive Bass chasing. I’ve seen video with muskies in Pikes chasing lures and fishermen during a figure 8 motion in the water. Cool video
Very cool
At first I thought he was pulling a Mike Long...very unique and effective.
A must try when i fosh next to docks
Wild!
I thoroughly enjoy your videos and respectfully suggest you research "jigger-pole" or "jigger-bob" fishing and also the figure-8 technique used by muskie fisherman. The footage in your video is phenomenal, and it is exciting to see this technique resurface.

Caught mucho Bassy asses doing this...
It will be interesting to know the history about bass assimilation in japan
I learned to do it with cranks at urban ponds. Now I do it for salt bass in ca from shore ( standing on ledge). 1 thing I learned is to not keep the drag to tight, but tight enough to still set the hook. A tight drag, with little line out has cost me a few lures.
I tried this technique on a Snook under the lights at night under a dock with an jackall dowzswimmer 180sf and landed a 27" to my surprise.
Jeff spittin that lingo
heehehehe that japanese joke flew right over his head hehehe
This has been a round for quite a while.
“Absorb what is useful, Discard what is not, Add what is uniquely your own.” “Simplicity is the key to brilliance.” ~ Bruce Lee
He is pro Staff from Shimano Jackall and other brands from Japan he is legand.
I hate to tell you guys this, but back in the 1940's through the 1980's this was done in the South (USA) with a long cane pole, a stout 2-3 ft. length of line and a topwater plug. Very common technique before people had fancy baitcasters and spinning reels.
I like watching the Japanese anglers on IG that pitch/flip the tiny klash in the inlets and small waterways. Short accurate casts that land without making a splash, they do like a fast but gentle dead walk that looks like it’s swimming super slow
Thanks.
🔥🔥💯💯
8 trappin since middle school . Dudes an OG trappa .
You mentioned that you are using 16 lb test flourocarbon can you tell me the exact brand? Thank you for your time and reply
HATA ROX" He showed me the "DOWZ ONE" GO JACKALL-GO CBF!!!
I caught a nice fish doing the figure 8 but it was on accident
Those that live in the North, know this technique well if youve musky fished..but figure 8ing on a spinning reel with a tiny bait is much more difficult than figure 8ing on a 8 foot musky rod with a 6 ounce bass bait..this is were the crossover happened I believe..thanls to swimbaits..

It came from saltwater fishing originally with the long Commercial fishing tuna rods in the late 1800s... 🎉
Musky technique. It works well for them, so it makes sense that it works for other predatory fish.
秦さんがアメリカ人のチャンネルに出てるのに感動です。
I watched this video a second time. What is the biggest bass caught using this technique? Does anyone know? I always thought the really biggest super large bass might be lethargic? This is like Musky technique? It would be neat to know what rod he is using. This technique is probably tough on rod tips. Those are big bass at 7:30.
I’m excited to watch this while I eat dinner. I’m going to reply to this comment when I’m done watching

That technique has been around since like the early 1900s if not into the 1800s with fishing for bass and other species with cane poles and early lures

A RIP 3/4 through the retrieve with a dead stop triggers bites
I’ve caught huge snakehead doing the figure 8
OMG😱
Fish get trigger when bait gets faster. 8 figure means dinner bell and who wants to get the food better.
This technique has been used here in Northern California for 15+ years. It’s top secret tho and I’m sure it came from Japan. Don’t tell anyone tho

I don’t know a more stupid and strange fish than bass. if you tried to catch our pike like that, you’d get tired of pulling the swimbait like that
This technique is old I've done it so many times already

Yeah but this dude is 8 trap bass fishing. 2-3 fish at a time on giant baits bro....
i dont fish for sport. thats lame. number 1 is a dumb dream. i just enjoy eating delicious fish.
This isn’t anything new. Pike and Musky fisherman have been running figure 8’s at the end of a retrieve near the boat for decades.
Hey man! I’ve recently found your channel and I love your content. I was pleasantly surprised to see that you speak Japanese. I’m looking to move to Japan in the next two to three years and I would like to know what apps or learning resources you would recommend? Your experience learning the language would be great as well. Thank you! 🫡

I used an app called Human Japanese, there’s two parts, that kind of gets you started but I also used a website called Japan Dictionary to help a lot with Kanji and other more advanced words. Going to Japan and actually try to speak the language and being surrounded by it helps a ton too
I thought Satan was doing the 8 trap with his Balam 300 before this?
