This is Your Brain on Spiritual Abuse

This satire video is to bring awareness to people who have experienced spiritual abuse. I did not write this script, I did not film it and I did not edit it. All I did was show up and play a part. All of this was put together by Naomi Wright, a former cult member. Naomi is the daughter of a pseudo-Christian cult leader. She was raised, yet hidden, within mainstream culture and public school education, where no one knew-or the few with a sense of something, stayed silent. She did not know this was the case until she was 28, from which point she has sought after truth with a questioning mind, adamant to never find herself so lost again. This was filmed by Justin Jackola, a very talented film director.
Thank you Naomi for asking me to be a part of your project! I hope it helps many people be rescued from cults and spiritual abuse.

Thank you for making this video. My family left one of these crazy remnant groups last July. Since then, we have been working through the 7 year experience and deconstructing the evils that were taught in it, to where the Bible speaks truth. We are still working through the trauma of it and rest in His peace regardless of the difficulty. It's a sad comfort to know that we were not the only one's. In the understanding that I have now, knowing that the things that I said and did in this group, I am so thankful for the grace that God has for me and my family. Be encouraged, and please continue to make content. It's very funny and eye opening.

I love your videos, they really hit home! There would be two points in which I disagree with on though in this video which are the prophets and Jesus not knowing His return. Jesus does know when He will return, when He was here on earth as a human, like any other man, He did not know the day nor the hour. But now that He is reunited with the Father in Heaven, He knows, for He is one with the Father and was right there with God the Father in the making of the plan of salvation. As for the prophets Joel 2:28 says, "“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions." Just because we have the ability to commune with the Lord now, doesn't mean He doesn't have a use to use people to redirect others and to warn people.

Similarly to writing the script for this video, we're both laughing and crying over the comments. We're so glad this is resonating, and yet, we're not, because it means someone has suffered these kinds of abuses, which should never be. I grew up in a family of unbelievers, and became a believer at 21. I was fortunate to have been led to a group with solid teaching. I had always envied those who grew up in church. I believed they had an easier spiritual walk, and better lives. Reading these stories helps me to understand that the Evil One may even be found in “church” groups, and perhaps a thin silver lining is that I have been spared that experience. I find myself praying as I read these stories, as my heart hurts.

Ask Him to show you who He really is. After 25 years of following an imaginary dictator, I'm finally seeing a God of love. It's a slow process for me because I see it most deeply in my heartache. I have trouble trusting Him when I'm afraid I'll hear Him condemning me and lecturing me with His Word. That's my fear. His true voice hasn't come through as anything but mercy and love for me, even in my mistakes. Bro, the view you see is from someone other than God. God never said that He wanted to be your boss. You will never find a verse that says that. He has said that He loves you. If He wanted robots, He would have made us robots. He allows you to he free. He wants you to be free so you would decide to love Him. "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." 2 Corinthians 3:17. I encourage you to look up the word "liberty" in the YouVersion app or google it for verses. There is a lot in the Bible that states that God gives us liberty! There's also a lot that tell us that He loves us and He doesn't condemn us. I go to Romans 7 & 8 when I'm struggling with shame because of my sin. Romans 8:1 & 9 are my go-to. I use these verses to establish my worth in Christ to myself and to the devil. I know the struggle, man. May I pray for you?

@@barbs1298 I was raised to be a christian, endured spiritual abuse at the hands of my family, they used God to justify their abuse. Each time I was beaten, the abuser quoted "Spare the rod, spoil the child". Eventually, I started believing that God doesn't care about abused children or people in general. Worse, I started thinking he endorsed it in the bible. I struggle to see him as anyone other than a God who wants what he wants and doesn't care about how anyone else feels. There are rules to follow in the bible and I sometimes feel like I have to "obey it or else"... I've tried to talk to church leaders and other christians about this, but they tend to attack me and they jump to defend God. I confided in a pastor (I live in a small town) and ended up being gossiped about by many people in the church and all over town. I've been living in a warehouse because I suffered an injustice and they used a vulnerable situation I'm in, for gossip. Some of the people that go to church harass me in the streets. A group of them walked by me, yelling obscenities and mocking me while I was going to buy food. I know that I can't compare God to people, but it's very discouraging when I see how many people that claim to be his behave and treat others. I've reached out to God and he's told me to be patient, but sometimes, I wonder if he sees my pain and the injustice but doesn't care. I have a great deal of pain in my heart and I don't know how to let go of it and heal. I know that my idea of who God is, is probably wrong. Please get around other people you can trust to talk about these issues. Isolation gives the enemy a foothold.. Lifting you up in prayer! 🙏🙏

MY EX WAS JUST LIKE THIS. i’m not sure if this is spiritual abuse but my ex of 3 years basically talked ab the bible, the word and Jesus Christ yet he’d literally make me feel horrible for doing certain things (mind you, this person also introduced me to dangerous drugs, hit me & forced himself onto me) then justify it by saying its bc of God’s word. he’d use the word as excuses to cut me off, ignore me, and invalidate me. this person literally didn’t want me to go to a church because it was with another guy friend… he belittled me so much and made me feel worthless (but through prayer i’ve persevered🤍). we maybe only prayed twice together in those 3 years, i had many demonic dreams of him, he made me question my faith/knowledge because he made it seem like i’d never understand the bible. it got to a point where i only felt okay after praying, but i literally would have panic attacks knowing he was coming over. yet this person went on to rip up my own personal bible & HIS own bible.. he just contradicted himself all the time and hated when you’d bring it up. it left me contemplating if my faith in Jesus was even real or if the bible was right for me. however i thank the Lord for revealing the truth to me.

The SDA’s that are not traumatized is because either they don’t read the books of the “prophetess” or they don’t take her writings seriously.

Having the ability to go before a jury of your peers is a blessing. Sometimes a bench trial will actually allow for justice to be better served but having the jury option is a beautiful thing and we don't have it unless we accept the duty. Anyone that has been wrongfully accused and going before an obviously biased judge will thank you for that service. Still isn't perfect as judges do have quite a bit of power to sway the outcome but no human system will be perfect. In fact, we don't want a perfect judge judging us. I know I don't.

Ohh man - I’ve heard the KjV argument tons of times. At first I was mislead and thought that only the kjv was an accurate translation. Now, as I am continually studying ancient Greek I find that part of the reasons there are different translations is because there are many words in Greek that are hard to express in English or can be said differently, hence there are variations (and that is also why many Bibles, have notes to explain the Greek further if needed). So there is no wrong or right translation to choose from when reading the Bible. Some translations are more dynamic and others are not.

Ms. Wright said something here that I'd like to call a little more attention to; something she said about that even democracy can be treated like an idol. I would respectfully ask all of you not to just dismiss that as a 'pseudo cult' teaching (including you, Ms. Dougherty): Democracy is treated like an idol by many (including me); and we are often encouraged to treat it like a god unto itself. Don't get me wrong: The concept of democracy is a wonderful blessing. God gave us free will, and a concept of government to pursue that it. I'm not at all advocating a theocracy. But we are prone to making even democracy into an idol, as opposed to the sovereignty of God, and our need to surrender all to Jesus. I love these videos, Ms. Dougherty. Carry on, please!

I grew up in a church like this. We left when I was in middle school, and by that time the "drunk in the spirit" and "holy laughter" had hit the church. You could only refer to the head pastor a "Apostle" and you could only call God and Jesus "Yahweh and Yahshua". They had gotten to the point of not using the Bible very much as they emphasized listening to Holy Spirit for all things. Thankfully, I was not traumatized but able to separate myself from all of the false teaching I had there. I live in a small town so I still see the aftermath of those who were able to break free from this place and the delusion that is still clung to by those who are still in it.

I have loved all the material you share and love your way of sharing the truths with satire, but this one I don't quite align with, because I've served 32 years as a hydrologist for the fed government, and in the last 2 years, the Lord has me standing against "government" authority. I didn't run out to have an experimental inoculation injected into my body, when the government mandated me to, and I just filed my second EEO complaint regarding them pushing WOKE ideology on me during MANDATORY annual training. In 32 years, I've never seen anything like this. I've received perfect performance evaluations and even a medal of honor, during my career, so I've NEVER been a "problem employee" before. Our own EEO office has also been infiltrated, and blatantly threatened and intimidated me, and I've been dealing with brainwashing tactics and coercion CONSTANTLY for 2 YEARS. So maybe the Lord is guiding some of His children to quietly comply to government mandates, but He's guiding a lot of His children to stand against the wiles of the devil. Our country/world has been overthrown, and Christians are being blatantly persecuted (which we obviously expect after salvation), but the Lord doesn't have me bowing down and complying to the lies of the enemy. He has me withstanding the persecution to stand on HIS TRUTHS. These are very troubling days we are living in, but if all Christians quietly comply to the lies of the enemy, then we are simply handing over our country to the enemy. Should Christians also quietly comply when the government mandates them to take the mark of the beast, because scripture says we are supposed to do what government tells us? Maybe those that don't work in the government have no idea how horrific things are right now, but I assure you, it's terrifying what I'm being subjected to DAILY for 2 years, and the Lord has me constantly in scripture, and PUSHING BACK BOLDLY. We see many times in scripture where God has His children disobey the government. The Hebrew midwives disobeyed Pharoah when they were told to kill male babies. Daniel prayed when prayer was prohibited. Shad, Meshach, & Abed refused to bow to the statue. And we are clearly told "we are to obey God, rather than men". Our current government is in direct opposition to God's truths. I may have taken this skit wrong, since I'm so overwhelmed with the constant wicked attacks. I do adore you and the majority of your content and thank you for all you've shown me :)

That’s literally been my entire life’s experiences with “Christians” in my area, and it’s only been as an adult and getting into theology studying on my own, totally independently, that I’ve learned the truth. But I still really struggle with being surrounded with it nearly constantly. The part about the overarching view of women has been exceptionally hard, and seemingly no one studying scripture on their own, so they can’t even simply talk about it. The last year we have finally found a more Biblical church here, which took about 4 years of diligent scouring of churches. But it’s really hard to try and integrate into it. I struggle to decipher what people actually believe with all the ominous wording, and no one being blunt. And the women/ mom circles really seem to be the worst it. It’s really disheartening. But great video! On the editing side, maybe the scene cuts and jumps could be a bit quicker, you seem to have a slight pause in your cuts, which can make it feel disjointed to the viewer. Keep them coming sisters! ♥️🙏🏽

Once I was told by local county courthouse I might have to do jury duty ,If I didn't return a postcard before a certain date I could be arrested. I missed the deadline and I offered to let them arrest me just because I didn't wanna be bothered with jury duty. Later on the courthouse said I wouldn't be needed for jury duty. I don't know why. I just don't wanna be bothered by these social obligations for free.

😊😅😂 LOL. Yes, ultimately sad for many, but you have a Great comedic relief! Not TOO harsh yet a sweet humor which will reach some & if it offends some oh well. You are GREAT as you! Thank you Saint Melissa! 😁.

That's why I always use the KJV when I get into debates like this. I'm not a "KJV only" person, but I don't want to be distracted by debates over Bible translations.

I had to pause the video at the anointed markers bit. When she throws them and Melissa gets hit with them I was laughing out loud. Having gone down the wrong path a few too many times, I appreciate this video. I was the girl with the binoculars.
