This is your brain on birth control. (an analysis)

#lostfemaleeducation #hormonalbirthcontrol
Thanks to hormonal birth control, people now have the license to engage in sex without the inevitable "consequence" of procreation... and millions of women are essentially walking around as different versions of themselves. This is because you, in many ways, are your hormones and the hormones in birth control are designed to disrupt your natural hormones to effectively prevent pregnancy.
All the information in this video is from actual studies, scientists, doctors, PhDs, etc. except for a couple of my own theories which I made sure to specify. I have many of my citations listed down below but didn't have the room to list all of them unfortunately.
This is not medical advice - I'm not advising you to be on or off of birth control (I'm not a doctor, I have a degree in psychology). I made this video because I was on birth control for 5 years and it changed a lot about me - my personality, whom I found attractive, energy levels, anxiety levels, and more. I wish I had known about the potential side-effects of birth control before going on it so I made this video so that women can be more educated about birth control and make a more informed decision regarding whether or not it's for them. I also encourage you to do your own research, listen to differing viewpoints, etc. Don't only listen to me. 💝
I hope you enjoy this video. Please like & subscribe for more content like this! And I ask that if you disagree with anything I say, please keep it respectful.

After the birth of my second child, doctors talked about birth control. My husband said you are not putting that crap into your uterus. So he diligently uses condoms. He has never complained about using condom being uncomfortable. He is a real man. I love him with all my heart.

My doctor put me on birth control to regulate my period at 19, I was on it for 2 years and turned into a different person. Anxious 24/7, reactive, insecure, depressed, terrible indigestion.. I stopped the pill, started doing daily work to regulate my nervous system, and started taking Macca root supplements instead and I've never been happier! :) I wish my doctor wasn't so quick to put a bandaid over the real problem, it would have saved me so much time. I Love this video!

So true! I remember trying to research this topic years ago when I was on the pill, I was trying to find any studies that said “yes the pill for sure affects you in these ways” and literally every study I found was pretty inconclusive and that the data shows everyone reacts differently so they couldn’t determine if it’s the pill is creating the problems. I don’t think it’s just a coincidence that so many women who’ve taken some form of hormonal birth control are having so many of the same problems! Who knows who paid for these studies or if they were even conducted properly, whatever the case may be I don’t trust them, I trust my own lived experiences and the experiences & stories of other women.

It’s heartbreaking to hear how many women who know something is wrong with their body get gaslighted by their so called healthcare providers time and time again. The medical establishment is still so sexist, abusive and dismissive towards women. Thank you so much for shedding light on this topic!

I was on birth control for 7 years. During that entire time I was dating a man who was a narcissist & abusive … later after I had finally left him & moved to a different state entirely, I found out he was trying to trap me into pregnancy. I thank my lucky stars every single day that my birth control did not fail me during that time. After leaving & also during my 2 year celibacy journey, I got off birth control completely. My body skipped 6 months of periods & then finally settled into regularity after an entire year. I was at my sickest during the time I was on birth control & now I am more in tune with my body than ever before. With that being said, it I was not on birth control during the time I spent in my previous relationship, I absolutely would’ve gotten pregnant by a very abusive & toxic man. Informed consent is so important. I am so grateful I had access to birth control even though it made me sick but either way I was coming out losing in the situation regardless. Now I am with someone who treats me with respect & care & I am more educated about how my cycle works. I’ve been using the natural family planning method for 1 year so far & I absolutely love it. Knowledge is power.

Between wanting to be agreeable, and in control of our own wants and needs, this society can be a snake pit for young women to navigate. We need compassion at every turn. People may be put off about this but I think abortion should not be off the table, just as wanting to have a child at 16. We all need to feel in control over our own bodys, others have no say.

You want to know something crazy? my friend was attracted to narcissistic/ toxic men while on birth control! It's not like she purposely picked them out, but it was what she kept gravitating too! but when she got off birth control, her type changed and she picked good men to date! birth control can change what you're attracted too. Maybe that's what happened to you 🤷‍♀️

You wouldn't have most likely been attracted to him in the first place if you were not on BC. It tricks your body into thinking it's pregnant with all the hormonal side effects that come with that. Many times the reverse takes place where a woman on BC is attracted to beta males. Then when they get off after marriage they realize they're not attracted to their husbands at all, and now want an Alpha Chud.

As a guy I never understood how it seemed so normal for women and girls to be taking regular hormone pills. I always thought I wouldn't want to take such a thing if I were a female, and I guess this video confirmed a lot of my doubts. My fiancée was on the pill only for a short time in her early twenties, hated what it did to her and never looked back since. Very interesting video, thank you very much for this!

I was diagnosed major depressive disorder at 18 and on my long and difficult journey to improve my mental health I realised every month for about a week I'd get much more severely depressed, coincidentally always a week before my period. Long story short, I started taking the pill which helped significantly, I'm no longer seeing a therapist or taking anti-depressants but I'm still on the pill and am no longer depressed! The pill has been amazing for me and I consider it one of the aspects that helped pull me out of my depression.

I can only speak anecdotally, but that’s a pattern I’ve noticed discussing this with many, many friends over the years: birth control was stabilizing (in many ways) for those who struggled painful periods and significant mood swings/PMS. On the flip, (the observable majority) of those of us who had comparatively painless periods, minimal (if any) PMS, etc, felt on birth control as many of the comments stated: foggy, depressed, killed libido, etc. And all this really confirms is that HBC does in fact affect more than reproductive health. 🤷‍♀️

Now I'm 22 and not only I am more energetic and overall SO MUCH HEALTHIER but also my cramps are now very light, my period is tiny and lasts 3-4 days. So it kinda regulated my period, I guess, but if I had a choice again, I would never take it. I was so unhealthy and miserable when on pill.

Agreed. In fact, my period causes me greater pain and flares my lupus. Birth control (depoprevera) changed my life positively by stopping these symptoms altogether. Without it, I'm stuck in bed for 1 week every month. Interestingly, there's such little research on women's periods and immune disorders. My rheumatologist's eyes blurred over when I originally presented this problem. I had to get Rx from my primary care and pretty much self-medicate. I can't be the only woman who's chronic illness is deeply impacted by menstruation.

I was put on hormonal birth control when I was 16 and continued taking it until I was 21. During that time I became extremely depressed and anxious (no one saw the connection), was put on a cocktail of mood-altering drugs, dropped out of school and began engaging in a variety of self-destructive behaviors. After switching to a different type of hormonal birth control at 21, I again experienced a dramatic and disturbing shift in my personality, moods, and behavior, so I started researching the impact of these synthetic hormones on mind and body health. The fact that what equates to potent and dangerous drugs are being given to children like candy without informed consent is unfortunately a recurring theme these days. To be clear, I (like many women and girls) was experiencing very real health issues that precipitated the administration of birth control pills, but the doctors made no effort to identify or address underlying issues and heal the root cause. Thank you for making this video.

I was on birth control at 19 in college and I’m 26 now. When I started taking it, I was moody, insecure, depressed, and anxious. I was so insecure I started opting not to eat because I didn’t feel pretty enough to go to the dining hall. I flunked all my classes because I slept during the day and stayed up all night. I had no interest in anything. I even turned to drugs, alcohol, and risky behaviors for comfort. I remember driving in a car with a friend at night, I purposely tried to crash the car. I also tried suicide by pills. I had countless ER visits because there were times I just couldn’t breathe (probably anxiety) Please, if you love yourself, just steer clear of this poison! Mind you, I was a pretty happy person before birth control. I’m still suffering the effects 7 years later.

I've experienced somewhat the same thing. During my appointment, my gynecologist asked if I was sexually active then immediately tried to prescribe me birth control pills after telling her I was sexually active. I told her that I was not comfortable taking birth control mainly because I want to do my research to see if the potential side effects would be worth it for me. I also told her that condoms were working for me (I know condoms don't work 100% of the time) but she kind of pushing me to take birth control because it's better than being sorry. After I asked her if I can think about it, she scheduled a follow-up appointment to prescribe me birth control. I cancelled the follow-up appointment a week after my original appointment. I know my gynecologist was just trying to do my job but I felt like she wasn't listening to me and treating me as if I don't know anything. That's how I personally feel.

@@s.stevens4520 I understand some people's hesitation being on the pill, especially if they are on it for contraception reasons rather than a medical reason. However, I have PCOS and being on the pill had saved my eggs. My doctor is very supportive and has suggested doing an egg extraction if I want an alternative to being on the pill. I get constantly checked up, have had 0 bad side effects whilst being on it, I feel like a normal person on it physically and mentally, none of these symptoms I can relate to. So I don't think everyone should instantly be turned off from it from hearing a video on KZread, especially if like me it is a chance to save their eggs. I sometimes feel weird when I see videos like this, even though it is very well meaning, it can also potentially run the risk of someone who does need the pill missing their chance to see if it is for them.

As a 50 year old woman , I have been saying this for years!! I had severe endometriosis diagnosed laproscopically at 15. The treatment at the time was trying birth control pills, without the 7 days off. It really created an emotionally chaotic time for me, but being that young I figured it was growing up. Eventually, each of the pills would fail as my body fought them. I was one of the first patients in the state to receive the treatment of Lupron injections. I was a sophomore in college and dealing with menopausal symptoms at the same time. The treatment was stopped after 9 months, and my cycle returned. It It had been effective, and I was thrilled! Eventually, after another year, the pain and symptoms returned. I was in another state, and the doctors there just started me back on the pill. This time, there was a marked change in my personality. I became severely depressed, and one day as I was driving my car on the highway, I had the thought that if I just sped up the car and ran into the bridge, I could end it all. Suicidal ideation was so against every part of my being and worldview that it shocked me into reality. I realized that the only thing that had changed was the addition of the pill. I stopped it just a few days later, against medical advice, and never had that urge again. I struggled for years with endometriosis, but my husband and I were able to have a son. I don't understand why no one has done studies on hormonal birth control and breast cancer. I bet they would find a correlation they don't want to find.

I'm really glad to see your comment. I'm in my mid twenties and was diagnosed with endo in my teens, and I've been on birth control ever since. Endo was actually not too painful for me, which is how it progressed to a very late stage without me noticing, so stopping my periods was vital. I luckily have not had all the symptoms described by others, but I worry about what will happen when I eventually have to go off birth control (if I stay on it for too many years it causes bone calcium issues). I'm so sorry to hear about your experience and hope women in the future will not have to suffer the same.

I am 31 years old. I never tried taking birth control contraceptive ever until 2 weeks ago. I have had a healthy cycle all my life . I am usually a calm person and with the practices of yoga and meditation , I am usually very “zen” in spirit and behavior. I workout and eat healthy. I am naturally a happy person with a positive outlook on life. Today (11 Dec ‘22) counts as my 14th day on the pill and I have been depressed , anxious, bored with my self and earlier today I felt suicidal. I couldn’t find a reason for living . Thank God I thought of my only son and ignored the thoughts altogether. I felt like I hated every single human being on earth and had a full blown rage. I took a cold shower to calm myself and cry. I broke up with my partner feeling like I have no connection at all with him and I found fault in every little thing that anybody tries to do. I have been crying since yesterday and I would wake up inbetween my sleep to cry and go back to sleep. Only much later I decided to actually do a deeper research on the pill. I thought I was the only one going crazy. Thank god I found an article that revealed so much truth about birth control pills and this video also helped. The comments here confirmed that it wasn’t only me. Thank you ladies. Your stories have saved me. So grateful I listened to my inner guidance since teenagehood that made me always question these pills. I will be going off the pill and returning to my normal self asap. ❤❤❤

So today’s is my 5th day after stopping the birth control pills. I thought I should share so that someone might find it helpful. Since I stopped taking the pill (5 days ago). I have been detoxing by drinking a whole lot of water each day, constantly steaming to remove toxins from my body, practicing “detox yoga” using some KZread videos, getting enough sleep, napping during the day to heal faster, drinking lots of calming teas (green, chamomile and ginger tea) and eating a lot of fruits and vegetables. I could feel the hormonal changes happening in my body during this process. I’m so glad I noticed the side effects early. I didn’t need a long cleanse because I was only on the pills for 14 days . I feel like myself again, the anxiety and depression has dissipated. I’m happy, whole and back to socializing normally with my friends and family. I fixed things with my partner and luckily he noticed that I was not being myself since I started taking the pill. Im in such a happy place and I feel so sorry for women who have been on birth control pills and were diagnosed with anti-depressants without much knowledge , when they could have actually just stopped on time. My heart pours out to you. If you happen to be going through the harsh side effects of taking birth control pills I want to let you know that you’re not alone and you’re not crazy . The hormonal changes are a big deal and the best way to heal or come out of this is by stopping completely. I am with you and I send you my love .

I always thought I was an extremely emotional, depressed and anxious person. My doctor prescribed me Zoloft for anxiety and depression instead of acknowledging that the pill could be the problem. I also struggled with my weight and constant unhealthy cravings for years. Coming off of it, my mood has totally balanced out, my interests are totally different because I'm a much more rational and logical person, I've been slowly losing weight over the last 2 years without the struggle I used to have. It's like I was a totally different person. I actually tried to go back on the pill again last year and the side effects were immediate. It wasn't a slow build up like the first time. A lot of people I've spoken to understand that hormonal birth control has side affects but accept those side effects because the alternative is pregnancy. Contraception is still looked at as a woman's responsibility and a lot of women are pressured into taking hormonal birth control because their partners don't want to or like wearing condoms. I got an IUD last year and it hasn't been terrible but I do have mild side effects. Birth control is an incredible thing and has helped women take control of their bodies but that doesn't mean there aren't any issues with it. I think maybe when you talk about the side effects of birth control, maybe people who are opposing you are the ones who are focusing on the good that birth control has done (or they are just crazy keyboard warriors who knows). I feel like often times the conversation just stops at "hormonal birth control bad" when it needs to include contraception being the responsibility of both parties involved. A lot of people have used the side effects of birth control to shame women who are on it. Religious extremists use the side effects of birth control as a reason to justify trying to make it inaccessible. Obviously some people just want to be mad but maybe some people just misunderstood your view point because of all the garbage out their. Either way, thanks for taking about this :)

I'm glad I found this video. The past year, I've been using the pill on and off, and I noticed that when I was off the pill that I was more hopeful, more confident in myself, more able to absorb what was happening around me. While on the pill, I felt like I was silenced, my tolerance for social situations or conversations diminished, I was less outgoing even though I've always been shy and introverted, and I was so severely depressed and had episodes of incredible lows where I just wanted to end it all. A couple weeks ago, I got off the pill, and it's exactly like remembering the real me who had all of these ambitions and hopes in life. I feel like I'm finally able to pick myself up, be there for me, and love myself more. Sometimes I think about going back on it and just documenting my experience as a way to confirm or rather prove that it was the pill and not just a depressive episode, but other times I don't want to sacrifice the woman that I've come to remember. I wish this knowledge was more well-known and actively provided to patients who are just prescribed birth control without any information about the effects or long-term consequences. I am so happy to be able to love myself again

It’s so crazy to me. I’ve met MANY women who’ve had negative effects of birth control even my own family. I started birth control when I was 18 but I hated the brand and stopped. I started again when I was 22 and finally found one that worked best with the right hormones and dosage. I have a lot of mental health issues and I was very hormonal all month I only had one week where I felt normal which was when I was ovulating. After that week I was depressed and miserable. Crying constantly and getting into physical fights. I got on the pill and I had more and more weeks like my ovulation week and I’m happier. I’m only writing this because I’ve have had the opposite experience but that shouldn’t discourage any woman from taking charge of her body with or without birth control. Knowledge is power 😅 as corny as that sounds it’s true. I want to talk with a Dr about my experience but I scared they will just lie to me to make a profit. Hopefully I find a good Dr who will help me feel normal and centered. Good luck to everybody else on their journey. ❤

I’ve been on the pill since 9th grade (20 now) for my unbearable period and I’ve had nothing but a positive experience, attracted to ultra masc men, do very much want sex. But seeing videos like this make me want to get off it. I commented when she first put the vid up and she was a little rude to me. Idk what to do.

I was put on the pill at age 15 (during puberty) and spent a few years on the pill, then had the implanon (and the pill on top to stop my bleeding), and then back on the pill again and only just came off at age 27. That's 12 years in total, and during my most important formative years of growth, and all of the symptoms/issues you've described (especially all of the neurological issues) are absolutely on point. On one hand it's so relieving to know what the cause of my problems have been, but on the other I'm so so devastated that I have had to go through them and feel like I've missed out on an opportunity to thrive in one of the most important times of my life. Thank you for all of your information, I hope this receives as many women as possible who might be either able to make a truly informed decision, or to be able to know why they may be having the symptoms/issues you've described.

Wow! I started using birth control at the age of 14 to regulate my cycle because I would be “on” all month long, to help with cramps, etc! I didn’t realize until now watching this video that immediately after starting the pill, the anxiety and panic attacks appeared. I’m 18 now. My anxiety, etc is must better. The reason being Jesus Christ. He has the power to intervene and change your present storyline if you open up your heart to Him🙏🏾

Instead of trying to solve the problem they threw me on it..I stayed on for about a year, this was about 7 years ago. Since then I haven't went back on it. Imagine if we threw little boys on synthetic testosterone, it's sick. I was never taught the dangers and neither have any of the women I know. Someone I work with was on it since about 10 years old due to period issues and she developed osteoporosis, the youngest case the doctor has ever seen. Thank you so much for making this video, I really commend you for using and listing all the supporting articles on each of the topics you'd discussed. Me and my partner have been a bit worried about my over all long term use of birth control in our relationship, and we want kids at some point in our lives, and I'm still young,(21). I think this was God sent because I'd stumbled across this on my for you page this morning, and it truly aided me in really understanding the effects, from these research studies and the way you articulate the connections for all of them and the effects they can have. It all makes so much sense now!! Personally I've been on the pill for about a year now and I've definitely noticed changes to my personality/character as well as my integral experience upon life as of late. There's been this glaze like feeling of apathy, as well as internalized aggression towards the stints of time when the withdrawal effect of taking the pill , starts my false cycle. I've been really curious to why and you've wrapped it up so eloquently. I thank you kindly for what you're doing and hope to share this with friends and family. Fascinating research. The effort that went into this video is exemplary. The information you’re bringing forward is highly significant and I hope more people find this video. The work you put into getting this information out is so important as I have noticed how often doctors fail to help patients understand what changes they will be subjecting themselves to. Unfortunately, I also notice the “bandaid” solution, as doctors present certain medicines as a miracle cure with few to no side effects. And though this may be the case sometimes, there are still drastic changes going on which may not be visible. This video helps people visualize (even if it doesn’t impact them so much since they may not have any negative symptoms), how what they are taking affects them, and the work you are doing is so important in helping people understand. Though I’m a man, I still find it highly important as it does impact those around me. I feel that the issue of doctors prescribing ‘cures’ without explaining them can be seen even wider than birth control as well, and it is interesting to look into those cases further. Thank you for your research and the time you put into it.

Needless to say, I'm glad I'm not on them anymore, but as someone who also doesn't want something inserted in me either leaves not a whole lot of options. I was getting headaches in the afternoon for months and then one day (even after stopping taking the pill for like 1-2 weeks) I woke up from a nap blind. It was terrifying and I had no idea what was going on. My doctor ended up diagnosing me with estrogen sensitivity and told me to NEVER take synthetic estrogen again. She said I could have had a stroke if I were higher risk. And ever since I've struggled with hormonal related migraines even though I haven't been on birth control in almost a decade.

Oh my gosh, I am totally agreeing with everything you have been saying about Birth Control!! When I first went on it I was 17 and had just suffered a miscarriage. I stopped eating for two weeks and dropped 18#. I was not right in the head, and I was getting into a lot of dark things around this time. I went on it again when I was 19 with my second boyfriend. All the affection I once had for him was gone, and I was a totally different person. That relationship didn't end well. Then I went on the IUD three months before my husband and I got married. We were abstinent until our wedding night, and I wanted to be adjusted to it before our big night. Well... it almost destroyed our marriage. He was in pain from feeling the strings, I was constantly in pain, and I was a rage monster. When I got it put in I was violated by my gynecologist. I was screaming for him to stop, but he inserted the device anyway. I never reported it because he's gay and he had a female chaperone with him. I got it taken out when we were wanting to have kids, which was about a year from when it was first put in, and immediately I physically felt like my brain was able to make connections it wasn't able to, I was happier, and my aggressive tendencies greatly diminished. I actually wanted sex, sex didn't hurt, and I felt like a complete married woman for once. After trying out two other forms of BC we stopped all together, especially after our second pregnancy loss. After that I did a crap ton of research into it only to begin to discover all of these horrific truths about it. I held onto the IUD for years before finally burning it. I will never consent to either of my two daughters being put on it for any reason whatsoever. I plan to teach them everything they need to know about their reproduction and cycles. Not every cycle is the same, and the expectation of the 28 day cycle, flow, cramps, and everything else needs to stop.

Right there with you. I was about 16 when I started do to abs debilitating pain, vomiting, nausea, etc. I went through pill fatigue about 2-3 years in and decided to stop. I wasn't sexually active, so that was never an issue for me. On the pill, aspects of my period were better, but there were parts of it that were worse. On the pill, my periods were longer, though no vomiting, less severe pain (still pain, but less severe). Off the pill, it was hell for about 1-2 days. I decided to just go through the 2 days of hell rather than 6-7. To be clear, I was in my late 30's before my period began to change. After having my 2nd to 3rd child, my period pain began to diminish, though every once in a blue moon, I'd still vomit and have severe pain, though not EVERY month. After having my 3rd child, I have 0 pain when having a period. NO joke! I consider it a total miracle. Also should note, my pregnancies were heaven. No morning sickness, no extreme weight gain, nothing. I loved pregnancy, though every woman I know considered it hell.

Wow! So much good information. I am post menopausal now. I did birth control pills only a few months as they made me feel so crappy and moody. We opted for the diaphragm and spermicide or condoms before we wanted to have children. I did have an IUD for a while and once I found out it let me get pregnant but not let the baby attach, I had it removed. To me that they did not tell me this, was so unethical on the part of the doctors. When we did want to try for a baby, I got pregnant right away. I nursed the first boy over two years and then because he was nursing less, my periods returned. This boy was a very strong nurser so the effect was his nursing held back my periods for all that time. I had then one period and got pregnant with our second son. Nursed him also but he was not as vigorous of a nurser, my periods came back soon after having the 6 week period of healing after having a baby. So we used condoms or I watched my monthly cycle and then space our last child the same distance apart. And had our third son. Fortunately for me the break from hormones which nursing our children meant that I have have had no breast cancer. My mother and sister both died of breast cancer which was post menopausal and therefore not deemed to be hereditary by genetics. I am 69 now and am in good health. But what I did find is that dairy also plays with our hormones as all cow’s milk has mammalian estrogen in it. When I found this out, I stopped all dairy and also being off of dairy reversed the severe arthritis I had developed close to when my periods stopped altogether. After giving up dairy, my arthritis is so much better controlled and only bothers me on rare occasions. It was bad before giving up dairy, I was in a wheelchair. I do drink Soy milk now but it does not have the negative effects that they tell us as Asian women have used soy products for years and so long as they maintain their traditional Asian diets, which is lots of tofu, vegetables and very little meat or fish, breast cancer is avoided nearly 100%. If they live in the cities where western fast-food restaurants are easy-access, their breast cancer rates approach the rates of women in the USA. So now in order to protect myself further from cancer, I have become a vegan. It has helped my weight to become normal, reversed my pre-diabetes, normalized my blood pressure, I do not have wrinkles and at age 69, is rather incredible. Getting off of dairy also meant no more asthma, no more constipation. And I sleep better. As my father died of Alzheimer’s as well as my maternal grandmother, the diet I am on is the most protective for my brain also. This diet means no heart or kidney disease. So it has many benefits. I had terrible hot flashes after menopause. Soy has helped me tremendously. I don’t eat vast quantities, I get most of my dietary protein from beans and nuts and other legumes. But soy is not dangerous. I also avoid oils, sugar and too much salt. My husband is now vegan also but he had to have prostate cancer and it was discovered at stage 4 so he had the surgery. Dairy to him was like a religious experience. The estrogen in dairy which is linked to causing breast cancer, also can cause prostate cancer in men. So no more cancers occurred, he eats as I do. Even though he had robotic surgery, a cancer cell could have broken away from his tumor and made a home in another part of his body. This is why he went Whole Foods Plant-Based which is what I am now also. Clearly with all the hormones the doctors like to throw at women, they do not care if we get sick as the doctors make money off of our illnesses. I TAKE NO MEDICATIONS as I do not need to. I do take supplements. I walk if the weather permits. And I am a good vegan cook. Herbs and spices are what makes meat and poultry tolerable. We can experience better health learning to think for ourselves as we do not want to be sick and nor do we want to be exploited by the medical industry. Ladies, be wise. Look into what I’ve written here for yourselves. WFPB is the road to optimal health and is by far, the healthiest diet for women.

I started to take the pill when I was 14. As you said I was told it’s “safe” and the possible side effects would go away in a few months. Now at 17 I have not been taking it for almost a year now and I feel so much better. I feel more alive. I have much more energy even when I sleep to little (on the pill I was tired 24/7) and just feel my feelings more intensely. In general I feel more connected to my feminine side and my sexuality and I experience more positive emotions. My intuition is also better. Sadly my skin got a bit worse but I can live with that.

I’ve never felt so seen in terms of the effects that all of the hormonal birth control methods I tried had on me. Every doctor told me it was all in my head! I think many women have been on it for so long they don’t realize what’s happening to them. It’s heartbreaking to consider how this has positioned women in society on a macro scale. Thank you for making this video. The more education the better and hopefully will turn into accountability that requires the drug developers to disclose this crucial information.

Thanks for the info! This is a lot of stuff I haven't thought too hard about before. I started taking hormonal birth control (1 mg estradiol + 20 mcg norethindrone) 3 years ago, when I was 18 years old, for my PCOS. I was having horribly painful and very heavy periods, along with "masculine" hair growth, painful acne, etc. I tried my best to be well-informed about my decision to take the birth control. I read the entire information packet that I got from the pharmacy multiple times. I saw the risks listed there, and I decided it was worth it. For me, this seems to have been a good decision, at least as far as I can tell now. I have gained so much life back without the painful, heavy periods. My withdrawal bleeding is very light and sometimes I have painful cramping, but it is manageable. My acne went away-- and man, I didn't realize just how painful it was until it was gone! As far as concerning brain effects, I haven't noticed any in myself. Birth control may be changing my brain/who I am, but I like myself a ton better than I did before I took it. I was a very depressed and anxious person before I took birth control. I hated myself. Now I am not depressed, and while I still am quite anxious, I am able to manage it better. I have self-confidence. I have been in therapy these past 3 years, and I think that's probably the reason why I am doing better, but the birth control doesn't seem to have harmed that for me. I did know about the threat of depression worsening when I started birth control, though. I'm glad it didn't do that for me. I have a friend who has had horrible experiences with birth controls making her terribly depressed. So I do know that can definitely happen to people. As for procreation-- that has never been a factor for me. I considered myself asexual before I started taking birth control (have never felt sexual attraction), and that hasn't changed for me since taking it. I still haven't had sex and have no desire to. I also haven't been in a romantic relationship for the past couple of years, but I don't mind that either. So all the sex/fertility/romance stuff doesn't matter much to me. I am curious about the cortisol and weight-related birth control effects. I was obese when I began taking birth control, and I still am. I have not experienced weight gain from birth control (I have both gained and lost weight since then). But I am curious. At first, it seemed like it was easier for my to lose weight. I lost 25 pounds the year after I started birth control (with diet and exercise). But then I gained it back in a bout of depression (my depression had not completely gone away at that point -- it has now been 1 year since my last major depressive episode), and since then, I have found it quite difficult to lose weight, despite exercising more than I ever have before. But anyway, I'm curious if the birth control might have had a positive effect on my brain/personality overall rather than a negative one. I was in such a sorry state to begin with. It's possible I've been improving due to other factors and the birth control isn't affecting it, or is maybe holding me back from progressing as far as I would without it-- I wouldn't know. I'm glad to be on the birth control, but I'm not completely satisfied with it. I know that it isn't fixing my PCOS. I still have messed up hormones, so it isn't solving the problem, like you said. On my withdrawal weeks, I have more PCOS symptoms due to the lack of the synthetic hormones. So I'm sure if I stopped taking the birth control, it would go right back to the way it was, or maybe even be worse. But I suppose it's the best I have right now.

it’s so interesting to see how medication affects different people! people are saying how much worse they were on the pill but the me before the pill was a 24/7 anxious, angry and depressed mess. i look back and i realise how i would take decisions without regard and let my emotions get hold of me unnecessarily to the point where it was crippling and even therapy didn’t help. once i started the pill life overall was a lot more calmer. shitty moments are still there (it’s life they will always be) but i definitely bounce back quicker than ever before. once i have a moment of clarity, i can actually hold onto it instead of descending into delusion. i will say tho that my attraction to others is not as intense as before tho before the pill it was like a demon so i’m not sure if it’s a good comparison to begin with.

My parenting and my relationship with my children has changed completely for the better since I've been off hormonal contraceptives. I was not maternal on them and now I cant get enough of my babies. My heart breaks thinking of all the times I was with a completely different brain.

I haven't even watched the video yet, but I already got teary-eyed at the comments. I started taking birth control at 16 years old, I'm going to be 23 in about a month and I finally decided to stop taking it about a week ago. I don't remember how I was before taking it, all I know is that I've been emotionally unstable in the last couple of years. The pill made my skin clear up, got me a wonderfully regular period and kept me safe from an unwanted pregnancy. But for as long as I can think back, I've been sad, insecure and just an emotional mess. The thought of having taken this stuff throughout this significant developmental period, makes me angry and scared - I don't know who I am without it, I don't know what it might have done to my personality, but I'm about to find out. I am worried that this isn't the best thing to do, but many comments give me hope, that life might actually get better.

I don't know why KZread recommended this vid to me, but I found it very informative and entertaining to watch. I was on BC from the age of 18 to 26. My effects were not as significant as some other women, but I did experience a lack of libido and lack of sensation during intercourse. At 26, I changed pharmacies and they would only dispense the generic version when I had been taking name brand. I started experiencing more pronounced side effects, like spotting between cycles, very bad cramping, etc. When I went to my gyno with my concerns, they basically gaslit me saying I couldn't be experiencing what I was describing because the generic is the same as the name brand. Or if I was experiencing those things, it wasn't being caused by the BC (though they did not look for any other cause). Fast-forward two months when I found out that I was pregnant (while still regularly taking the pill). Obviously, i dropped taking the pill right away. At first I thought the changes I experiences, increased libido, better sensation during intimacy, etc. were caused by pregnancy hormones, but they continued even after I gave birth and stayed off the pill while breast feeding. I went back on the pill eventually, and quickly realized how pronounced the side effects were. I stopped taking it over ten years ago and have never looked back. I'm not saying women shouldn't take it, but doctors should be more transparent about the effects it could have and willing to listen when their patients have issues.

Never been on the pill (never even had sex lol), but I always found that my mood and the way I think highly depends on the time of the month. The week of/before I'm supposed to get my period, I feel heavily depressed, lonely, and maybe even a lil suicidal. But man, When my period comes, that day and the whole rest of my week I am happy, my depression is gone, I no longer feel social anxiety and I feel optimistic about life. Even my opinions and goals are more focused. I cannot even begin to imagine what the pill would do to my psychology...

So i startet watching this Video and decided to add one information: Thank you for this Video, because not every Doctor and not every country gives you the informations you need. I feel really lucky to live in Germany and my doctor told me like everything and I could choose totally by myself in the end (I decided to take it, because my period cramps nearly made me highly depressed and now I feel like a new human being, finally being able to function). But it is really shocking to see, how easy it is to get those hormones and how easy doctors tell young girls to just take them without a week of period break. So I'm really speechless how big the non information and lack of interest is in America. So thank you so much for informing!

My daughter was 17 and having excruciating pain during her period to the point of being in bed for a couple days. I took her to my Ob-gyn for advice and help. They put her on the pill without really explaining anything. That was the worst 3 months of her life and the rest of our family. She was depressed, angry, mean and almost suicidal. The pain she had before the pills never subsided either. I took her back to the ob-gyn a few months later and they didn't get why she stopped. I was like, "you don't have to live with her." She can't live like that either. She will probably never take HBC again.

Thank you so much! I was put on the pill last year to regulate the size of quistes in my ovaries. I was also on my last year of university and now I'm working on my thesis. I studied physics so it was always hard and stressfull work but this last two years I've been feeling absolute lack of motivation for my future, anxiety and anger management issues, some nights i cry because i feel i have no purpose in life. Ive been trying to get help but i always relapse, i know most likely it isn't solely the pill but now i know it may be playing a larger part in it than i thought. My doc never mentioned this possible side effects and has dismissed my feelings, SO thank you SO SO MUCH, this video has given me hope that life can get better.
