This is one reason that I seldom eat in the buffet. I have seen people dip and lick their fingers as they go through the line. Multiple people handling the utensils makes me so cautious. So many women do not wash their hands either. Disgusting

Nothing new about this , you just have never noticed it or thought about. People have always been doing this for decades, and yes, it is disgusting.

Agree 100%. I was on the Celebrity Millennium recently and hubby told me he saw a few leave the restroom without washing their hands. I could not believe the number of people that coughed openly without covering their mouths and it was everywhere. So disgusting. Manners are gone for most and it’s disgusting.

That is just nasty. I travel a lot for work and it never ceases to amaze me how many people don’t wash their hands especially after the bathroom!

I am a guy and I carry a pocket pack of Lysol or Clorox wipes. I do this in everyday life and on a cruise especially! I wipe down the table, the stool and machine in the casino and other high touch public used area. I also do the entire cabin when I get in my room.

Well, when my Wife and I were on our first cruise, we both saw many people exit their washrooms without washing their hands. We both called them out for it. And in both washrooms through the ship, there were paper towel dispensers next to the exits of the washrooms, that we both used to grab the door handle to open the door just for that reason for ignorant people.

Lately on cruises I been on would say 50 to 60% of men using bathrooms don't wash their hands

Ask the Captain to make an announcement to all passengers to "PLEASE WASH YOUR HANDS "!

I saw a man cough over the buffet. I immediately informed the staff who pulled the item off. 😮

Thank you for bringing this to light! This is what happens the world over!! Many people don't care about cleanliness anymore. It's not just a crying shame, it's downright nasty. That's why whenever I'm away from home I'm very careful of the surfaces I touch. I also arm myself with sanitizers, Clorox wipes and Lysol sprays and look for opportunities to wash my hands with soap and water frequently. Ugh😧

Our last Carnival cruise. The guy couldn't get the pen to work to sign his receipt. So he licked the tip, got it to work the handed my husband the pen to use. WTF!🤯

I worked on ships for 8 years. On all the cruise lines. All ships, no matter if is new or not, big or small, will have many people like this. I highly recommend everyine after you put food in your plate at the buffet to go to wash your hands. You never know who touched that claw or how is called.

Having worked in health care, when you wash your hands, use the paper towel to open the door before discarding it in the trash. You avoid toiching the door people open with their unwashed hands. The disgusting behaior I usully see is in the buffet with people using fingers to touch food, then licking them before reaching in for more.

I know this must have been a difficult video to make I started to gag but have experienced most of what you have except THAT thanks for the warning.I always take extreme precautions but am going out tomorrow and load up on disinfection wipes.

Some people are just naturally disgusting. This is why I don’t do pot luck. The most disgusting thing I’ve seen was a lady pick her nose and then grab a plate at the pizza place but then she decided she didn’t want a plate I liked to die I couldn’t get over to that stack of plates fast enough with a napkin and remove the top four plates. 🤢🙀

I’m not trying to be dramatic. I have a very strong stomach. I’m a double cancer survivor. There’s not much you can tell me that will make me sick but this story actually made me gag. I had to stop it before I threw up. Last month on the very first day of my cruise I was waiting by the elevator, this lady turned around and coughed right in my face. I went home from this cruise with Covid. Now I’m not saying she gave me Covid. I could’ve gotten it from anywhere really, but if you have to cough don’t just turn around and think that’s good it’s not, there’s people behind you, in front of you and on the sides of you. Cough into your sleeve or if you’re sleeveless cough into your hands and then go wash them.

Wow!!!! on my recent cruise. I only saw one woman walk out of the bathroom without washing her hands. When I didn’t see a lot of people using the hand sanitizer the outside of buffet. I’ve never seen anything super gross just people not washing their hands, or on the ships that have staff standing by saying wishy-washy before you go into the buffet, and people keep walking, walking, ignoring them. I hope staff cleaned up after Mr. Loogie!!!

I love washing my hands on HAL cruises, they have the best soap and cloth hand towels to dry your hands, they also have paper towels at the door so use opening to exit. 🥰🥰

I had a buffet experience where a woman used her fingers to get the mashed potatoes off of the spoon then put the spoon back for the next person.

I don't know whether anyone else remembers, but there used to be a tv commercial about washing your hands. The lyrics to the song were, "Wash your hands after going to the bathroom/Wash your hands after changing baby, too/'Cause we don't want to spread hepatitis/And we don't want hepatitis to catch you/Who? You!"

These people are everywhere, not just on cruise ships. It’s up to each if us to wash our hands frequently. Especially before eating.

That is utterly DISGUSTING!!!!!

I saw a family stand around a child throwing up in a trash can outside of the elevator on deck 5 on symphony of the seas when there was a bathroom around the corner.

That was so disgusting. There is a serious lack of home training as folks are downright nasty. I avoid the buffet unless I am one of the first to arrive for just that reason.

As a handicapped traveler, I use handicapped restrooms. Recently on the Norwegian Escape, I went to the handicapped ladies room. The door was not locked so I opened the door. There was a non handicapped woman sitting there. She jumps off the commode and runs at me pretty much in the buff from the waist down. She is cursing at me for opening the unlocked door and standing right there so anyone passing by could see her naked body. Obviously she was drunk, but goodness, no on wants to see your private parts. It was a busy area so who know how many people were subjected to that. I just said, "Excuse me," and walked off. It was disusting on two levels. 1. She was not handicapped nor did she lock the door because obviously she was drunk. 2. No one wants to see her naked privates standing with her pants around her ankles. At that point I just went back to my cabin to use the restroom.

In the buffet, I saw a man lick his fingers and then picked up the tongs . Since then, I’ve been eating in the dinning room or at a restaurant. No buffets for me.

I always carry hand sanitizer with me in my pockets at all times. So when I use the bathroom and I do not stop at the sink to wash my hands with soap and warm, used hand sanitizer. So yes, sometimes it looks like I wash my hands when I leave the bathroom, if I don’t stop at the sink, I’m using the hand sanitizer.

Wash with soap! Don't just rub them under water either. Ugh

Wash your hands for 30 seconds or if you can’t count, sing the happy birthday song. It is a must when you work for food services to always wash your hands before handling food. I feel like people that have never worked in food Service don’t know how to properly clean their hands. What happened to the handwashing things that were pleased around the buffet during Covid times. Did the cruise ships take these sinks out?

On the Beyond in 2 weeks and getting sick to my stomach. Some of the single ship bathrooms have a weird lock system (tough to close and lock door) Unfortunately had opened one with a 300lb male wrapping up a seated event only to catch them in mid clean. Those doors are impossible to close and had to do my best to press my entire body against the door to close it while having the traumatic event firmly imbedded in my brain that will haunt me the rest of my life.

We saw a drunk guy on a Princess cruise with his head in the Soup terrain trying to get some soup. Not sure if ge was eating right out of it but we never eat at the buffet even before this. People are gross and the buffet is the worst.

Omg wtf? Barf!! Most disgusting thing i have seen was a man wearing nothing but swim trunks, dripping wet, big bushy pits, hairy everything, at the buffet serving himself...reaching across food to get stuff. That was on my first cruise and 26 cruises later...i still rarely go to the buffet because of it. Now thanks to this story, i will be carrying alcohol wipes with me to the casino and everywhere. Hand sanitizer is no longer sufficient 😢😢😂

Whst I hate is that, while I wash my hands, i then have to touch the bathroom door handle, that was just touched by someone who did not wash their hands.

We were on a tender boat or tour boat, I forgot which one but it was where we were seated with our backs facing the water. It was extremely windy and there was a man seated a few feet up wind from us and he coughed, sneezed, sprayed, you name it without even attempting to cover his mouth and of course it just went all over us! We were so disgusted by that. It kind of ruined our excursion but I think we went snorkeling so at least we got to wash off in the salt water shortly after! 😅

Since Covid I have wiped my seat, tray table, etc down on the plane, use hand sanitizer and I masked still since so many people around me are still getting Covid. Some people are just gross. Some people scratching their crouch area.

Thank you for your thoughts on the need to call out "gross" behavior on cruise ships. Sadly, that behavior is endemic, not just on cruise ships, but in interactions we witness in our everyday lives. Instead of asking for others to send in descriptions of bad behavior, I'd welcome knowing how they handled the person(s) they may have witnessed, just as i was hoping you might have corrected the bad behavior you witnessed...;prior to the other guest placing his finger on a slot machine...instead of just asking your subscribers to out-do you with other "gross-outs".

To be honest, that is very hard to publicly address people on their public health habits. I know not all will agree with this, but not everyone feels comfortable walking up to someone and asking or telling them they should wash their hands. What we can do, is let ask the crew to watch the machine he was at and give it a good wipe down when he leaves.

I owned a restaurant on a lake..outside on the deck dinning. I saw a lady pour some ketchup on her plate and then lick around the top of the bottle before putting the cap back on. T

On any of the Royal Caribbean ships without a sink at the Windjammer buffet, there is a crew member staffed to squirt hand sanitizer for every passenger to "washie washie" before entering the buffet. So gross that so many people don't wash their hands after using the toilet via #2, then touch everything in the buffet (or elevator buttons, slot machines, etc.) -- this is most likely how the Norovirus spreads! 🤮

That is vile. I think we need to get better at challenging people like this.

I love my husband for his clean hands! He actually hate having dirty hands to the point of leaving the table to wash his hands if he gets any food on anything on them. But he also hates hand sanitizer and cruising with him is a nightmare because he have to go to the restroom a actually wash his hands before going in to the buffet or restaurants

I went to the bathroom in a fast food restaurant (which in itself is ewww) when I saw one of the cooks come out of a bathroom stall without washing her hands! I went out and told everyone standing in line what I saw while pointing at her. Surprisingly not everyone left 🤮

I did not see anyone wash their hands before eating at various restaurants while sailing on the Carnival Mardi Gras. Even though sinks are available.

Not a cruise ship, but this weekend I stayed at a quality inn. The breakfast bar was immaculate, but there was a guest that was hacking up her lungs right by the food buffet area. She made no attempt to walk away and she didn’t go to the restroom to wash her hands . In addition, her teen age companion ( son? ) was resting his head on the buffet table while waiting for his toast to come out of the machine. Gross! Needless to say, I ate cereal and a banana for breakfast , no bread or pancakes. Lol.

Cruise ships are always so clean, it's the people that are disgusting. Not washing your hands is just disgusting when there is an easy option to do so. Sick people boarding ships hacking up their lungs or being clearly ill is a thing for me. In the aftermath of Covid, that was the one nice thing. They heavily screened anyone who was sick or didn't have good public hygiene habits.

Wow. That was a really gross story. It made me gag a little listening to it, I couldn't imagine actually being there. 😮

The coughing into the hand, that is something I have never seen. My mother always gave me a handkerchief to put in my pocket ( She was French) and I used it to cough into or sneeze into. To this day ( I am 66) I carry a fresh clean handkerchief with me always. Furthermore, I am old school and when I wear a jacket I also carry a fresh clean handkerchief in my chest pocket to offer someone in an emergency. Living abroad, I found that Americans especially here in Florida, Men are coughing and sneezing into the air and even spitting on the ground. I also carry disposable tissues.

My Husband (now deceased) used to get infuriated at men not washing their hands in the men's bathrooms. He called out many on this. Mama's always tell their children to wash up, it's a shame not all listen to her wise words. It is disgusting for sure.

We are about to board a ship that just hit the news for bed bugs and we are on the very next sailing. So this might just be our grossest thing. Luckily we are on a different deck to the room in question so I am hoping we won’t 🤞🤞🤞🤞. Packing lots of plastic bags right now.

I live in an apartment and we have a couple gross people living here too. You know they do the same things when they are out in public. I got on the elevator to find spilled soda, pieces of cookies, and many other things. OH yes!!! there was someone who stood on the elevator and picked their bright red nail polish off while on the elevator. I hate all this and I usually get off the elevator, come into my apartment get wet paper towels, and clean up this stuff. I have actually taken my Swiffer mop out and used it several . They have someone who is to clean it and vacuum the halls weekly, but he does nothing but run the vacuum right outside the elevator door. There are businesses on the ground level and there are two block-long floors of apartments on the other two floors. You know these are the same kind of people who get on ships and continue to be slobs.

Other than the people being unclean.. there was an older man on Wonder back in 2022 who kept deciding to take off his pants and sit across from women sitting alone in Central Park. He was reported and security FINALLY approached him but he was not removed just warned. And before someone says maybe he had something wrong or wasn’t of sound mind, no -he told the one woman flat out that he enjoys showing people his “business”. Nobody wants to see that.

Wait - what? He took off his pants in “public”, which is an arrestable offense on land for lewd conduct. And the RCL employees did nothing until it had been reported multiple times?!?! He should have been taken to wherever their ship holding cell is and told to get off the ship for good at the next port. I am very glad that we do not sail on that cruise line.

@@marias902yep multiple times. The first woman he harassed told him to put his pants back on. She reported to the staff at the bar right next to her. I saw the guy walk in with only a shirt on and I went to customer service to have them call security. He went back out of Central Park and then took his pants off again and tried to come back in. The person I was with said absolutely not, you aren’t coming back in until you put pants back on. I saw security standing over by the bar getting the original report and flagged them down. They just very leisurely walked over. I was disappointed with the entire response. Never mind that I didn’t want to see that, but there were a ton of kids on that ship. He should have been arrested. We never had any other issue like that on Royal.

That is horrifying but not surprising. The grossest thing I've ever seen on a cruise ship? I saw a lady at the buffet at the salad bar. She was going down the line of salad dressings to test what she liked best. She had a plate. She would spoon some salad dressing onto her plate. She would stick her finger in the salad dressing and then suck it off her finger. Then she would move onto the next ladle, pick that up and repeat the process. So she was sucking her finger and touching every single ladle all the way down the row of the salad dressing Section. Unsuspecting people of course are going to come up right behind her and handle all of those ladles with their bare hands and then possibly pick up a sandwich or something like that and eat germs that came straight out of her mouth. I told a crewmember and he headed over there like he was going to take care of it but at that point I left the buffet. Orher gross things? People who bring drinks or food items into a public restroom and sip on them while they're waiting for their turn at the toilet, or set them on the bathroom counter and then use the bathroom and then come out and grab their cup and head off. Just disgusting, as toilets are constantly flushing while they're in there with their cup. And most don't wash hands at the buffet anymore and it's not enforced. I got Norovirus on the Disney dream last spring and it was the worst experience I've ever had. I washed my hands obsessively that whole cruise but that didn't do the job, apparently. I just think germs are everywhere with this behavior.

It isn’t just men who do not wash hands after going to the bathroom. My wife tells me there are a lot of women who also just walk out bathroom without washing hands either.

Seen a man at the buffet vomit on the floor, put a napkin over it and walk away. Then the poor waiter came by and picked up the napkin, seen what was there, shook his head and had to clean it up. Thank goodness he had gloves available.

I’ve many times been in the women’s bathroom and many many women don’t wash there hands they just walk out not just on cruise ships but in store bathrooms I carry hand sanitizer attached to my purse and use it all the time

Ugh. YUCK. People are gross. Imagine what people do in their cabins where no one can see them! I bring Clorox wipes and wipe all areas that my family could have contact with in the cabin, including doors, ledges, light switches, toilet lids, etc. I also wear shoes at all times unless I’m standing in the bathroom on a towel. I’ve heard too many stories from former hotel housekeepers. Do you know some people use the ice bucket as a barf bucket? And some use it for potty training their little ones or if the little ones have to go “right now” and the bathroom is occupied. Others use it to hold their hair brushes. I never use an ice bucket unless it has a trash bag liner in it. Oh, I won’t even tell you what I’ve heard has been found in coffee makers.

Arghh. That is disgusting. I was a black jack dealer in a land based casino in the midwest. I saw many people just "hawlk loogies" right on the carpet. Casinos are nasty places.

Have seen a passenger eating in the Luminae on Celebrity blow their nose into the cloth napkin and sit it back on the table and continue to eat without having washed their hands

My husband is obsessive compulsive about hand washing, he's always been that way. Sometimes to the point it's irrigating. If he were to get asked if he has washed his hands would be like one of the worst insults you could slap him with. I'm going to have to brief him on being asked on a cruise to wash his hands because if he is asked he will more than likely take offense.

I am so sorry you guys were grossed out by this individual. That is probably one of the most gross things I’ve ever heard.

The nastiest thing I ever saw on a cruise ship was a little girl around six years old who was helping herself to mashed potatoes in the Windjammer. After she had enough on her plate she stuck the serving spoon in her mouth and scraped the potatoes off with her teeth and then put the spoon bank in the potatoes! 🤢🤮

The grossest thing I have seen, which was actually post cruise at a hotel, was I was sitting on my balcony, next thing a guy in the apartment above me is peeing over his balcony and i had to step back as his urine coming down from his floor to mine and past me was no more than 10 centimetres away from my head. I thought what a filthy man. And he not only did this once but did it twice over a 2 day period. That's ferral. There was toilets in the apartments, use them of course I put in a complaint with hotel reception, but didn't hear any thing back regarding it.

OMG! I have no words. That is just disgusting 🤢

We were on royal transatlantic cruise plus 6days back to back for 23 total. Cabin steward was noticeably ill from day 1. By day 5 fever, sweats, snot dripping, so gross. She wiped her snot on her clothes and continued to make our beds dripping onto our sheets. I immediately informed supervisor and was told she has allergies. I said allergies dont cause a fever and either way i dont want her in my room again period. So next day shes in my room with a mask hanging around her neck. Not wearing it until i caught her in my room. Once again profusely sweating coughing. I insisted she leave and literally had to go to head of housekeeping to have her removed. He apologized but excused it because they were under staffed for this trip. I was appalled. My 83 yr old mother and myself became sick day 7. We were perfectly healthy when we arrived. We and we wore masks properly outside our cabin always. So we are certain we were exposed to our stewards virus. We will never cruise royal again. Our toilet was not working correctly. And thats another story. It was a 17 day nightmare.

I’m sad you had to experience that however, I got you beat. My husband and I were on a cruise and I went to an island briefing one morning in the theater, I arrived a little early. A woman came in with her husband in a wheelchair, and they sat two rows in front of me. He began to cough and hack, and you could hear the rumbling in his chest. He proceeded to let’s say, swish around in his mouth whatever came up. Then he looked to the floor, the carpeted floor, he looked to the left and he looked to the right, and he spit it out on the floor right there in the theater. I got up and reported him and sat on the other side of the room. On another day, on that same cruise, I went into the ladies room near the spa, and there was feces on the floor and on a mat. I reported that as well and said it should be cleaned up. This happened on a 5.5 star cruise line. Now, for a different story on a six star “ultra“ luxury cruise line : For a 10th anniversary on a 12 night cruise, there were four nights where such a horrific stench was coming up through the shower floor. I’ve never experienced such a horrific smell anywhere ever. Long story short, they were not able to fix or remedy it, and had no other cabins to move us to. So those four nights I went to dinner without any makeup on because I kept having dry heaves at the vanity outside of the bathroom. That’s how strong the stench was. There was also nothing to do for activity on that cruise . Let me just say it was very Seabourning! 😉

We all had to learn to wash our hands during the pandemic, but now it is haphazard.

I saw a man take food from the buffet many times and eat it and then proceed to touch all the utensils at the salad bar. I said something to him and to one of the servers.

Hell, some women don't wash their hands!! 😂😂.

Yeah, I see that all the time and just shake my head instead of saying something and ending up in a confrontation. SMH just nasty people out here.

It grosses me out when I see people eating while in line at buffet. Licking fingers and touching tongs. Touching bread and then leaving it.. Ick ick. Why I use napkins to touch tongs.
