The scooter rider was filtering in stationary traffic, the man was crossing between the cars, the scooter hit him, the man hit the car. Not sure why the other pedestrian was having a go at the innocent Mercedes driver !!

bashir shaar Its called crossing the road. While perhaps a lot of accidents similar to this one could be avoided by a pedestrian paying more attention to the traffic, on legal grounds it will nearly always be the fault of the involved motorists. It may be unsafe, but it is legal in nearly all cases for pedestrians to cross the road in England this way. Doesn't work well in places like London with crowded traffic, but does in less populated towns and villages.

There is no jaywalking in the UK. The pedestrian can be at fault for not looking, but the driver is always held responsible due to the "duty of care" vehicle operators come under. The only circumstance where a pedestrian is likely to be held responsible (though it still depends) is on a motorway.

When in traffic queues look out for pedestrians crossing between vehicles and vehicles emerging from junctions or changing lanes. Position yourself so that drivers in front can see you in their mirrors. Additionally, when filtering in slow-moving traffic, take care and keep your speed low. - The Highway Code Jaywalking is not a crime in the UK either so the onus is on the motorcyclist to make sure there are no pedestrians crossing and that they are travelling at a safe speed.

Bernardo Santos Filtering in the UK is not strictly legal, there are a lot of limitations that are often flaunted, including as *might* be relevant in this case crossing into hatched zones or across dashed white lines ( You can't see the incident but they're right next to that marked loading zone) Whereas according to the highway code a pedestrian crossing the road automatically has right of way, but the highway code isn't law and it's only written that way so it doesn't support mowing down pedestrians

The govt have already made it harder to get into biking with all the different licences not to mention all the thefts that happen. I’d hate to sit in traffic with all my gear on in summer if they did get rid of filtering like in the majority of states in the US.

In ten years of despatch riding in London I had ONE accident, and that was when I was not in a hurry and got rear ended by a car. It is astonishing how often motorcycles get rear ended, something that rarely happens when filtering. And any motorcyclist that needs to be told to look out for pedestrians shouldn't be on the road in the first place. Thing is it takes two to tango, and there's only so much you can do if the other party is going to be totally suicidal.

I've encounter countless of people tryna cross the road, without using zebra cross.. dang walking with their head up thinking that vehicles will not ram them. Well, I'd say ram them as hard as you can. Then proceed to juice their money for reparation. Your fault for crossing recklessly.

I had a massive go at the dad (I’m 6’1 120kg ex boxer) he said 3 words to me in something like 2 mins of me having a go at him for endangering his and his sons life

Not checking your surroundings seems to be consequent risk people take these days. The old man might have problems walking so with that in mind I can understand why he would try to walk through traffic to get as little walking distance as possible, but it doesn't mean it's a smart move to not look around. I had an episode yesterday, commuting with my car where a person was trying to drive out onto a 60km/h road like 20 meters in front of me. She had waited for the 3 cars in front of me, but decided it was a good idea to take the risk. That resulted in me having to slam the brakes, ending up 1 meter behind her. She was not in any rush at all and there wasnt any traffic except me and the cars in front. She didn't even know what a gas pedal was... totally clueless of what happened she just smiled at me while I honked at her. She had a yield sign just to be clear

People not checking the surroundings is something that always happens here where I live (Uruguay), I had many close calls due to stupidity and "hey let's run across the street while there is heavy traffic because we're too lazy to wait for the red light". Some years ago during chrismas eve a moron jumped in front of a jeep trying to outrun it with the result of the driver smashing his vehicle inside of a house. To me in one ocassion I smashed my bicycle and myself against one girl that for no fucking reason had the great idea of running across the street RIGHT when I was coming with the result of she having a broken arm and me having a broken face. You need 4 eyes out there, otherwise shit will hit the fan sooner or later. :/

Its both the biker and pedestrians job to ensure its safe to do either of the two things. You can argue the pedestrian should have been wary of filtering bikes, and the biker should be filtering slowly in anticipation of someone crossing (kind of like what RJ did when undertaking the van). With that said, a 4 lane road, the pedestrian is stupid for attempting to cross that even if the traffic was standstill.

Okay, that is good argument, but still that speed and maneuvering was crazy and definitely not safe. It could have been executed in much safer way. I do not mind motorcyclists when they are behaving like normal human beings and not like the road was only for them (In my country we call them organ donors, because the cause lots of accidents that result in motorcyclist death) and this definitely was the case. And to comment on the accident that happend, I agree people should be more carefull when crossing the street without crosswalk, but there is no chance to see motorbike maneuvering through lanes, when it is changing their position frequently. So in my opinion both parties should be more carefull. The pedestrian should watch more closely and motorcyclist shoud go slower in this type of traffic. Of course, we do not really know what happend in reality, so we shoud not judge.

Its different to doctors because u never study medicin like they do. Of course u will learn a lot about medicin and during work u have a lot do with doctors. The difference between a Doc and a Paramedic is that a Paramedic has tighter regulations.. he is not allowed to do as much as a doc of course.. big part of that is that we are not allowed to give diagnosis. Our job is to stabilise/comfort patient so we can transport them into the hospital. Its a great job but stressful in the beginning

You wont have any trouble getting a place on both sides. But the demand is bigger on the country side. Compared to the fire station (which is next to my Central) i can tell you that we get waaaay more calls in town. But thats something u cant really compare. So getting a job when u done with the degree is no problem at all in my eyes!

    1) 0:24 is stupid and mainly your fault, a court would very likely side with the pedestrian. Your view is blocked and you cannot tell what is behind that van. From the description, that's the same thing that happened to the driver involved in the accident. You need to pass slowly in these cases, there might as well be children running across. It's likely the first car stopped to let the woman pass as it's been sitting there for a longer time. 2) 0:50 -> overtaking on the right? This is the UK, shouldn't you be left, like the other guy? Quite funny how you criticise others when you fail at traffic rules and behaviour yourself. edit: I watched a view more of your videos and man, you've got issues. Chill out. Many close calls in your videos and the majority of them happen because you care more for your "right to drive" than other persons' "right to live".

@Sorin: Yes, I was a traffic policeman for quite a few years. In the Netherlands, what he did was illegal. I would give him two tickets: Lanesplitting and making a right turn from a straight through traffic lane. It is hard for me to understand that his actions are not illegal elsewhere, since it's dangerous and anti-social.

@Sorin: Yes, I have. Several times, in fact. And I DO know how people drive there and how pedestrians behave. I was a policeman in Amsterdam where there are a few bikes, motorcycles and pedestrians as well. So I know how traffic is in a large city. That doesn't make one impervious to traffic laws...

lane splitting is a crime in certain places for a reason lol. If you're slinking your way through tight spaces, no one can see you coming. It creates an unnecessary dangerous situation because no matter how careful you are about lane splitting, you're pretty much always in a blind spot to everyone around you.

  • @DominicNS

and its legal for a reason in places as well. In a lot of situations it is safer to lane split to the front of traffic then to sit in between two cars.

Those "certain places" are all in the US, (except California). American drivers have proven that they can not be bothered to pay attention while driving, and the laws reflect that. Grandpa might jump off the curb and in front of your F150 next time, will it be your fault that you where driving on that road at the same time?

might be common, but filtering at least at my country is against the law! i think it is or at least it should be in every country! (i drive a motorcycle btw ) cause there are 2 lanes, when you are filtering which lane are you using? the left one? the right one? none, you are driving right in the middle! 2nd thing, many times while im on my car i want to go from the left lane to the right, i use my blinkers (or w/e they are called) and then i have to stop in the middle of the road , cause traffic, (no im not exaggerating) to wait for all the motorcyclists which for some reason are filtering to pass me by, and then i can switch lanes! i mean is that ok? ... at least when i see someone trying to change lanes on my bike, i stop and let them change... 3rd stop filtering so freakin fast, i can be parked and want to go out of my car, why should i have my mind on an idiot who is speeding in between cars?? cmon now.. Lastly, in all of those lanes you switched in this video, did you RJ even used your turning signal even once? No, you didnt... i agree that pedestrians are dangerous, but you do know you are dangerous too right? watching ur video almost got bikejacked atm, and guess what? you dont use ur turning signal at all! good job...

no if you dont want to press charges the police generally leave the incident as it is. ive been on both ends of the police in this matter, i live in the uk. im not just saying this as some random american. again i will have to lay out the general process..... an incident happens where someone is injured/ a crime is commited police take statements police ask 'victim' if they want to press charges they say yes, it goes to CPS to determine if there is cause for a criminal case, if so the accused is then charged and a court date can be set. they say no, life goes on (unless its really fucking serious, then the police do as they wish)

Well that's why I have dashcams in my car. As far as I'm concerned, driving in the UK without a dashcam is asking for trouble. People in this country are in no way diligent or responsible enough to cross the road safely, and it's usually the victim in the vehicle that pays the ultimate price for the pedestrians negligence. At least with a dashcam, you can prove your innocence, and prove that you were the victim of damage to property. Without a dashcam, it's near impossible to sue the pedestrian for damages.

There are a few cases where he rides that are perfectly legal. However if he got involved in an accident he would be at fault for careless driving. So while what he's doing isn't illegal, he just doesn't seem aware enough of the situation to be considered "in the right" per se. Like here 0:21 ( stopped traffic, he should've slowed down. He was speeding anyway.) And here 0:54 (Filtering so close to a truck, who's driver has a difficult view below, not a great idea) As well as here 1:04 (Filtering or undertaking in yellow boxes I think is actually illegal, but I'm not sure. I know for certain that it places you at fault for accidents though) (Could also be considered undertaking on a right turn) Special mention to 0:31 While I'm not sure if bikers are allowed to do this, I certainly wouldn't condone it. As far as I'm concerned, you should never cross a zebra crossing unless the pedestrians have cleared it. That pedestrian was still slightly on the zebra crossing. If that guy tripped and fell back or dropped something and turned around, Royal Jordinian would've had no time to react. He's still a better rider that 90% of other riders in London, but that doesn't excuse him for putting others at danger. And his attitude towards it sucks from my experience watching his videos. He never considers what he does wrong, but only questions the stupidity of other people.

Everyone is a youtube cop. Chief of Police in their imagination actually. Rules and regulations are designed for the lowest common denominator. IE a heavy good vehicle on a rainy day. Not following them all to the letter does not mean you're dangerous. Crossing where there is no crosswalk without looking, that's dangerous.

  • @bakersmileyface

    @bakersmileyface

    5 жыл бұрын

@@borismarkov1141 Boris Markov That is completely incorrect. Laws and regulations are in place to ensure every driver and pedestrian are as safe as they can possibly be. People often overestimate their own abilities or the abilities of other people on the road. Laws are there to reduce the risk of an accident. If you think that you can get away with any of this stuff and put other people at risk or risk damage to property, then don't blame me if this internet cop Chief of Police pulls you over one day.

People are talking about a crosswalk, but on the scene I see no crosswalks nearby. There's a junction just before the scene which doesn't seem to have a crosswalk nor traffic lights for pedestrians and the junction further up seems quite a bit away.
