Rolex was smart In the 1970s when the quartz crisis hit the watch industry. Many Swiss watch companies tried to compete with the inexpensively made Japanese quartz watches. They couldn't continue to make high quality watches at that low of a price point. They lost their market share and went out of business. Many of these watches were comparable to Rolex as far as quality. Rolex on the other hand did not try to compete with the Japanese watches. Instead, they raised their prices significantly. That created the image of exceedingly high quality and exclusivity. Their strategy worked and they're still in business today.

This is one disturbing fact about expensive clothes. The composition of some "luxury" brands are comparable to "fast fashion". $500 for polyester pants, anyone?

For the most part I love Luxury, but I do not buy luxury clothes.. As a woman I buy just luxury handbags and shoes coz those are statement pieces, it adds more class to your outfit, makes you stand out and feel elegant.. I prefer to have fewer items in my closet that would last me a life time than have a lot of junk cheap items with less quality..🤷🏻‍♀️ Just me though..

Also the price. My net worth is pretty low compared to standards here in the US. I barely own anything and I dont have a job because of availability and stuff. Brands like Burberry needs to up the quality before they up the price...as we all know that 80% of their products are cheaply made in China...you can't pretend to be luxury if you manufacture cheap and keep a chain of outlet stores worldwide. I love good brands for their uniqueness and especially quality (longevity). You don’t need to buy Hermes, LV and Burberry. I don’t like fast fashion and clothes that damage easy therefore, I try go for the middle ground especially during sales, Tommy Hilfiger, Allsaints, Ralph Lauren, True Religion, occasionally Versace Couture and Moschino. I’ve gotten some big brands for 70% off and even more! I love a bargain 😅

Does not improving one's quality of life make a person feel better? People who spend $500 on a pair jeans because they have a brand name on them, rather than spending $20 on a pair that doesn't do so because they think that it makes them superior to others.

Luxury can always raise the price since they have been allowed to set the industry standard, not the quality of material or engineering that goes into the product or service

Like stone island do make sweaters for 300$ made in italy, but they are the money worth since you can do years with them and they will still feel good and it will look new. but 500$ for a t shirt is just for the exclusively

Tbh it is just the mindset of how humans think and feel. Some of us think and feel that it is an necessity to spend a lot of money on luxury things to self satisfy ourselves or someone/ something else. Other people think and feel remaining humble and not caring what others think is more satisfying. It’s called Taste & Preference.

I love luxury items, however i am not hypnotized, blinded, or dumbfounded by them. Especially when the cotton t-shirt from China cost around 50 Cent per shirt in mass bundles and i use that same t-shirt that cost 50 Cent and print LV, Dior, Valentino, YSL, Off-White and so on...and now i can charged the consumer between $ 200 to $1,800 per shirt , laughing all the way to the bank. It's all about the consumer being consumed and they don't even know it.

Hmm... yes they are overpriced, but Louis Vuitton, Dior, Valentino, etc do not produce their products in China. Most are made in Italy or France from the best material. In the end, they are still way overpriced, but it wouldn’t be fair to compare them to some mass produced products in China.

I would like to know which $20 handbag uses the exact same leather from the exact same cow that the $5000 one uses. Let’s forget about designs, craftsmanship, and quality control, $20 is way too low for a genuine leather handbag anyway. Your cotton T-Shirt example also makes zero sense. You realize not all cottons are produced equally, right? Luxury brands tend to use cottons from places like Japan and Italy, rather than China, though that’s not always the case. I’m in no way saying a plain T-Shirt from a luxury fashion house is *worth* $500 - it is not, but comparing it to a cheaply mass produced 50 cent T-Shirt from China is an utterly stupid comparison. And no, you can’t import a 50 cent cheaply made T-Shirt and print a logo on it then expect people to buy it for $200-$1800 each - nobody would buy it knowing it’s made in China from the cheapest cotton with no quality control in some sweatshop by an underage and underpaid kid. You don’t understand a thing about “luxury.”

I'm watching videos like these out of sheer curiosity, always trying to comprehend what drives some people to act like... Well... Like that. I'm a person who's always wearing sports clothes, mainly from Decathlon, because it's comfortable and lasts for a very long time for a very cheap price. The most expensive "wear" I own are my 80€-100€ Adiddas sports shoes that I buy every 3 years or so and keep using until they become so wear down and filled with holes I can't use them anymore. That's when I go to the shop, buy a new ones that fit my needs and throw the old ones in a container on my way back. Sometimes I even keep the laces if they remain in a good state. I'm not poor and it's not like I don't appreciate the looks of fancy clothing. People who dresses "well" do have a distinctive aura around them. But if I went to spend my well-earned money on something whose high price comes mainly from its "exclusive" logo... I'd honestly feel really stupid. And with this I'm not meaning that my ways are better than those who choose to spend that money. It's just that I struggle to empathize with them, since their mentality seems so alien to me. The way I understand "exclusivity" is: -If it's a tailored work that requires a highly skillful artisan, weeks of work and rare materials, then it can very well be called an "exclusive product". -If it's a piece of clothing with a logo that has a million chain-produced copies with the same logo and a 100 million versions with different logos, but, for some reason, the one with that specific logo has a prohibitive price that limits its buyers to those with the highest income, then it's not exclusive. It's overpriced. And it doesn't matter that some parts might have slightly different and more expensive materials. Even if they spent twice or thrice more in raw materials, that still doesn't explain the price being 40 times greater. I see them *almost* like how I see those lunatics who spend 30.000€ in a bucket full of garbage only because that bucket was in a modern art museum behind a label that "qualified" it as a piece of art. Some people might choose to pay more attention to the label and be blinded by the gravitas of the ""artist"" who made it and see it as a unique piece of art. Then decided they wanted to buy it for 30 grand. While me and my shallow mind would stay fixated at the piece itself and struggle to see it as anything different than a bucket full of garbage. Then feel scammed by the 15€ entrance fee. "They say this junk has a deep meaning within it. Hmmm... Maybe it's in that funny-looking old stick protruding from the side of the pile. It certainly is unusual to see such a stick inserted that way over a garbage bucket, almost like it was made on purpose... I wouldn't move it too much though. It looks like it's gonna fall anytime soon."

It's more about status than quality. Only people with enough bucks will be able to afford "luxury" items. (With the exception of Hermes Birkin - you won't necessarily be able to get your hands on one even if you have the money for it. You need to have the right connections or rapport with the Hermes staff in order to get one).

With the rise in flex culture and the normalization of designer goods, it means more people (who can’t necessarily afford it and go into debt for these purchases) are buying it and increasing demand. These companies know the demand is there and will happily increase their prices to maximize profit. The sad thing is that the quality of these goods have gone down, e.g. the common quality issues in LV Neverfull or LV Porchette Métis

I would love to see a followup video where you analyse and discuss what makes a new brand elevate to become iconic and exclusive. Forexample Michael Kors. What made him stand out from the other talented designers to become famous and have exclusive brand?

Then they went on about “playing authentic” or whatever, essentially doing the same thing these fashion companies are doing. That’s when a lot of people started to realize that the emperor had no clothes, and they didn’t have to idolize a brand name just because the brand itself insists you should.

It’s seems to me the best marketing is the Rich people that wear them. I don’t see too many or any more adds from Gucci, Burberry than from Levi or lesser priced brands. My 2 cents and they make a lot of sense is that clout is a powerful drug and mf are hooked

Kenzo used to be trash until LVMH's Pierre-Yves Roussel basically funded them in and instituted a modern and innovative designer. It was a dying brand, but Pierre-Yves is a brilliant luxury fashion head and refurbed and caused massive growth in like five brands.

Nothing to do with quality, many designers have said previously the dont people of colour to wear it. ...yet use them to promote it

The reason a Balenciaga logo t-shirt costs 300$ is placement: luxury brands can't sell you a dress for 2000$ and at the same time a t-shirt for 20$. That would mess with their perceived value and where they stand in the market (high-end in this case). It's the same reason why an iPhone charger costs like 50$. Once you've chosen your placement in the market you have to stick with it no matter what you're selling unless you want to risk losing the appeal of your brand.

Mac Daddydee that’s in correlation with inflation tho, Bugatti still make a loss with every car they make basically because it costs so much in r and d, as well as the raw materials and engineering to make them. Designer brands are increasing faster than inflation, that was said in the video

I feel like the logo cladding is an easy way for them sell the emperors clothes. Idiots buy a €300 tee shirt regardless of how it actually looks because it has a big logo on it. Then they use the profits of this to make the decent stuff, that actual fashionable people wear where there isn’t a logo in sight. Just my take anyway! Only new money and no money are into logos.

They hire sweatshops in Italy to do it. Gucci is the worst. The designer’s staff will hire a sweatshop to make their $1600 boots for $40. Balenciaga, Chanel, LV, Zara, Hermes, Dior, and others use sweated labor imported from China and Senegal.

The reason why it cost so much because you’re also paying for the brand name.

I’m appalled at the lengths Burberry went to stay a luxury brand. Destroying all those goods when people are dying of hunger inside and outside the US should be a criminal offense!😱
