This is a clip from a longer interview I did with another catholic KZreadr! Just so you know, I am NOT discouraging others from watching The Chosen. I think it has helped many people. This is just why I do not! Here is a link to the longer video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aneOrsyhkreTmNo.html

I struggle with self hatred and scrupulosity so the chosen is helpful in my efforts to understand God's ability to love a wretched vile sinner like myself

I don't watch The Chosen. I think studying Scripture and other branches of theology made it really hard to appreciate popular depictions. It's like when I studied art and design, I could hardly stand to look at a billboard and not be hyper-critical. I know a whole lot of good people who love The Chosen, though.

The Chosen is art, whether you like it or not. And for some people, certain arts help them with their relationship with Jesus. And other arts may be a distraction. For me, the Chosen has helped me immensely. No art is a sufficient replace for the sacraments. But they can be helpful. Just a side note, interestingly, this recent season is when Jesus changed Simon's name to Peter and tbh the way it's done is pretty darn Catholic. They talk constantly about Peter's new role as leader of the Church the Jesus was starting. I was surprised at the amount of emphasis.

Isn’t Peter’s role in being the leader of the church emphasised in the narrative told by Luke in the book of Acts without being explicit Catholic?

@@nelsonnavarrouk I think Catholics would say that anywhere where Peter’s leadership role in the early church is emphasized is scripture being explicitly Catholic

I think the chosen is great and I love their portrayal of Jesus but I think it’s unrealistic to ask an actor and show ti replicate Jesus’ divinity a whole. However, the chosen is not a replacement for scripture or personal relationship with Christ.

I am a Catholic, I become agnostic in late 2020. I stopped going to church, I think abt God only at hard times(no one could take that from me) but started asking questions. I even said there is no God. This year on Good Friday, I didn't go to Church, I even told my cousin I don't like going to church. They said that's fine, but atleast pray sometimes(they are hindus and sometimes agnostic, but calls themselves spiritual). I came home, my mom and dad went to church. I knew 'The Chosen' season 1 is in Netflix. But never wanted to watch that.. But suddenly on the evening of Good Friday, I opened Netflix and played The Chosen, I don't know why I did that, I literally said I don't believe in God just 2 hrs ago. But something made me watch it. I watched epi 4 of season 1, The episode was entirely abt St.Peter's calling. There would be a scene were Simon lashes out at God, He has no option left to survive. I have done that many times(I know it was a added storyline) But the next morning He meets Jesus, and the miracle of fish came up... I don't know why but I was not able to control my tears. I cried so bitterly. Becoz I know, even in my darker times, he was with me, helping me, giving everything I needed but I didn't see that, I neglected that. I kinda felt something opened my eyes. That particular thing made me to repent. I shared it with my mom, who was a convert from hinduism. She attends mass and has great compassion but she's is not a good Christian becoz she didn't know everything abt Jesus or his life. Now with me she also started reading bible. And it showed her the Big picture. I watched the whole series after that. And now I am already waiting for season 5. I won't say becoz of Chosen I am back. But I kinda feel Chosen helped me a little to be back home. The Chosen isn't always right for a catholic, they gave mother mary other kids and acts like she is nothing spl , they made Simon Peter almost a traitor, Gave so much importance to Mary Magdalene, I really don't want to talk abt the 'Rock' Sometimes I really think they get their ideas from gnostic gospels. But the truth is they are helping people like me out there to get back to their faith. So I will definitely continue to watch that. I know they are going to go all Protestanism , even against Catholicism but They won't go against our God. And we Catholics accept The statues as Artful praise to God, why shouldn't we accept this form of Art as a Praise to God❤❤

Would you be open to watching the first season? Just to see what your thoughts are afterward? I've been watching it, but I have some different nit picks. I wouldn't say it's corny at all. In fact, it's quite the opposite. The scenery, acting, and all of those aspects are pretty solid.

If that's what you would like, then watch "Jesus of Nazareth". "Passion of the Christ" is also great. Sorry, but The Chosen is great, and has opened Christ to a new generation. The Greatest Story Ever Told always needs to be retold for every generation.

I don't watch it because as far as I know it has a lot of dialogues that you can't find in the gospel. So if that's true then you can drift away further from the truth by watching it. I think it's emphasizing the sentimental love part like it's completely unconditional that reminds me more of a liberal love concept based on feelings instead of the struggles of Jesus and the saints. Maybe I am wrong about it, yet something is off for me with that show. Even that part you can watch it for free is a bit suspicous for a show with a budget and popularity like that.

I agree! The Chosen makes Jesus look like a cool, friendly, laid-back modern guy. From what I have seen, they seem to disregard the fact that He had a majestic stature and bearing which convinced people that He was a perfect candidate to be a king. I also saw a scene with Mary where she is telling Him to admit that He has favorites among His followers, and He tries to say He doesn't...in my opinion, it makes it look like He was either not in touch with His feelings or was lying to her (since He clearly did have an inner circle of Peter, James, and John). Also, a scene I saw where Jesus had a private talk with Peter's wife seemed to be way too modern...pretty sure married women didn't just chat privately with other men in those days, and if I remember correctly they even hugged

Very good points. I try not to be overcritical when judging a work that clearly has good intentions and clearly is introducing some people to the Scriptures, but there are certainly aspects I would change :)

You should watch it, your missing out and if you think he isn't divine in this show then you should look at him with your heart and know going in that he is the Son Of God, so he is also God. Jesus did the will of his Father and he did miracles how could he not be God also. I also want to say that the miracles he does in The Chosen 💯 shows his divinity. ❤❤❤

This season was a letdown. They make too much up and Our Lord does bad jokes. Plus, as far as I can tell they skipped John 6 and used some of that chapter for Palm Sunday. The whole St. Thomas having a fiancée has no basis is scripture.

I think they're doing a good job portraying Jesus' divinity. For example in Season 4 Episode 6 Jesus says "The Father and I are one" and the Pharisees try to stone him for blasphemy. The problem that I have with this series is, that everybody is crying all the time and the disciples are portrayed as so stupid and childish. 😅 But i watch it anyway. Greetings from Bavaria.

They are trying to be too cool and modern. It’s not a product of the true Holy Catholic Church. They omit so much. Dallas really is a turn off. Stopped watching it . Better off attending Mass and studying scriptures with Catholic clergy and theologians
