Thank you Zdenka. I am 70 now and started making KZread videos just to practise using cameras, keep me occupied now I’m retired, and just test out gear given to me by a shop in readiness for videos that they show on a loop in the shop itself. I used viewer comments to shape the final video for the shop, but I got to the point where I felt compelled to make videos for fear of losing my audience. It started to really tire me out and I even got to the point where I had developed atrial fibrillation and was fainting between takes! Now I have had an operation so I’m back to normal but the whole experience made me wonder what on earth was driving me. I felt compelled to make videos, even risking my health. Following a series of ‘different’ or should I say ‘alternative’ viewers who began to follow me around, basically jibing for sport, I decided I’d had enough. I occasionally make videos for KZread but just get on with enjoying making my own family videos. The pressure (and jibes) have gone and I have returned to the enjoyment of my hobby. KZread made it too much like work for me. And the pay is awful, so that’s it for me. Best wishes, Ian

Hi! Yes, it finally did me in. I will make more videos but when I want to rather than being driven to, because I was literally passing out with the A Fib. I’m ok now after my heart operation but it did change my outlook, along with some people who seemed to make me a verbal dartboard. There will be more but just ‘as and when’. Cheers Ian

New privacy / property laws, etc. create new challenges for everyone, especially companies. Algorithm policy changes take place for many reasons. Pre 2020 content creators were the wild west making a small fortune, but now regulations caught up with the industry. If you upload content that violates any law, the violation doesn't end just because the content was removed. The damage was already done and the creators are liable. These new regulations may play a roll in why people are leaving YT. Ai has the ability to scan the entire online library and report the millions of violations that were previously ignored. You signed a contract that all content is your creation and legally optained. We will see law firms being created for this purpose. NC has a privacy law stating $5k plus attorney fees per violation. (image) We are entering into a completely different reality where privacy violation can cost millions. Copyright, trademark, privacy Ai scans will be SOP. Where previously the cost to do so had been prohibitive. Have you noticed the new regulation enforcement on image distribution without concent and filming permits? The entire film industry has been affected by SM content creators. All the YT creators bragging about how much money they make with $5000 worth of investment got the attention they wanted and their content will be scanned for violations and fines will follow. Sorry for the shocking news if this was news to you.

I already have hours of work that deplete me. I had hoped that eventually I would be able to have some small income each month from making channels but i looked at how many hours I spent planning and editing and had to admit it wasn’t sensible. I just use an old phone and I can’t justify buying more than this right now. I’m putting some of my creative effort into Substack instead. I’m glad your health has improved. A lot of my friends and relatives have developed heart problems- it’s a rough time we live in maybe.

I'd love YT to have a thing where the thumbs downers had to say why they didn't like a video that would help the creator to adjust or improve.

Hi Zdenka , your advice and questions in this video made me think and ask myself what I am doing with my KZread channel. Given I am someone who has strived hard to achieve 8000 subs recently, I am definitely resonating with your advice about burn out and sustainable video production. You are always good at asking all those meaningful questions and I got a lot out of this video. I don't comment much on your videos, but I have been watching your channel for many years. I think your strategy of working alone and out sourcing a bit of video editing is a good way. I am doing that as well. I hope you can keep going with your channel as it's sad to see so many talented KZreadr quit KZread like you mentioned.

One of the nice things about KZread is the community and finding others with similar interests that we can learn from. I think the fact creators feel they have to upload to keep the algorithm happy doesn't help. It's hard when it's been your dream to have a successful channel. It felt a lot like you were telling my story (though my channel has only been around for about 5 years and I'm a few years older at nearly 56). I am also a "one man show" for all of my content creation and it's a tough and often lonely job. The biggest challenges I face though are dealing with haters/trolls/etc in the comments and, as you mentioned, the ever-changing KZread algorithm. Since they started pushing shorts (which I refuse to do), my revenue is down about 50%. Like you, this is my job, so taking a 50% reduction in pay is a hard pill to swallow.

Always great to hear other creators perspectives. I've noticed lately many of the creators we love to watch are just at a point where YT no longer fits their lifestyle which is not a bad thing. Burnout is definitely real. For myself, because of YT I was able to leave a career of 25 years in supply chain to work for a company as a content creator full time, while I manage my own personal channel. Like you, I'm at a point in my life (49yrs old) where I still need a steady income to take care of my family, mortgage etc. So to go full time on YT on my own, I'm still a long way from there. The more I think about all the responsibility on being a creator FT as a business, the more I see that maybe it's not for me. In a sense, I think at the moment, I have the best of both worlds and for now, I'm going to enjoy the journey. Following you since 6-7K subscribers to see where you are now is always so inspiring. Keep going Zdenka, I think you will reach the 1M mark eventually 🙌

I think a lot of people among your subscribers would be interested in you as a person aswell, just as in this video. You are much more than that succesful young model, the great photographer and professional youtuber which came out of it. Coming from the Netherlands i like your origins, your way of teaching, and of course i like your typical Zdenka accent, speaking perfect and easy to follow English. I would like to know more about you, you seem to be a woman to have a great and interesting conversation with, about many things. I hope these words inspire you for your future video's. Keep up the good work, you're doing great.@@ZdenkaDarula

Congratulations! It appears that KZread has actively promoted this video, and I'm delighted that it was recommended to me, leading me to discover your channel. Your insights are truly commendable, and you articulate your points exceptionally well. Your observations about the allure of KZread resonate strongly with me. Engaging with KZread can indeed be captivating, but, as you rightly pointed out, the journey is not without its challenges. Many, including myself, often underestimate the effort involved in creating a video and face the scrutiny of those who haven't experienced it firsthand. There's a prevalent expectation for content to match the quality of TV or movies consistently. Your acknowledgment of the additional challenges faced by individuals, especially those slightly older and juggling various life distractions, brings a valuable perspective to the discussion. It's a reminder that creating content is a multifaceted process that requires dedication, time, and a unique set of skills. I appreciate your honesty in sharing these insights, and I encourage you to continue your excellent work at your own pace, focusing on what brings you joy. Your authenticity shines through, and it's a refreshing perspective in the realm of content creation. Thank you for being candid about the intricacies of this endeavor, and here's to more success and happiness in your creative journey!

This is exactly what creators need to hear. Having previously been through trying to make a hobby into a career, I felt this but never thought about the aspect of long-term vs. short term videos and how exhausting it could be. I also feel the pressure to focus on a narrow niche can also be exhausting in many ways. I think you are doing it correctly and I respect that. Also, having 1M+ subs makes you KZread famous in a lot of ways and I have had glimpses into how exhausting that is as well. So my goal is to slowly grow my channel into something that can be residual income to my day job as well as into retirement and to never reach a level where I am more connected to sponsors than I am to subscribers. If it never reaches that, then it will be something that remains a hobby and I'm okay with that as well.

It's because of videos like this, that I love your channel Zdenka. I've posting to my channel for 7 years straight before I hit 100K, and honestly I'm at the point now, that I could care less about the algorithm - or doing videos because it's the next "thing" - I'm now only interested in doing video on subjects that really interest me. I also had 6 employees that added a ton of stress, so doing things alone have been so much better. Thanks for sharing your journey.

Hi Zdenka. At 62 I have no interest in making YT a career! I got interested in video and photography to complement my music creations. Creators like yourself inspire and provide good advice on products and techniques. As a visual learner this is invaluable. As more and more purchases are online, I look to YT to see how the products work and get insights into their operation. If I like how the material is presented, I trust the review. You are one of my trusted creators. Long may it continue!

Thank you for your candor, openness and authenticity in this video. I’m sure it will resonate with a lot of people as it did with me. Interestingly, I just had this same conversation with a few of my KZread content creator friends and they are also refocusing their channels to provide content that makes them happy and is what they enjoy … instead of getting caught up in frenzy of “having to perform“ simply to try and feed an ever-changing algorithm. And truthfully, their videos are much more enjoyable to watch now because they come from a place of authenticity and the joy/happiness shows through.

THANK YOU for this. I've been doing KZread for a few years and have certainly wanted to quit a time or two due to burnout (and cruelty from people commenting... it gets to you after a while). Remembering your "why" really helps in times like that, as does allowing yourself the freedom to get creative in other ways. My channel is about mermaids. I mostly post videos of myself swimming. It gets REALLY boring for me sometimes. So the other day, I filmed a makeup video that was mermaid themed. It was different, but still on topic. So it was interesting and fun for me to try while still being within my niche and within the expectations of my audience. I think it is good to be able to mix things up. It can be good to prevent burnout and also could help your channel reach new people 😊 As you said, unrelated hobbies really help too. I'm horrible at playing guzheng, and will never play it for anyone, but I LOVE playing my guzheng. It takes me out of the mermaid world and allows me to breathe. And getting outside in the warm months works wonders as well. 😇🖤 Thank you so much for your video. It helped me to reevaluate my purpose for making videos. And now I think I feel better remember why I do this 😊 Good luck to my fellow creators. I hope you will always find ways to enjoy doing what you do. ❤

thank you for this video. I’m 70 and started with photography as a newspaper photographer in the 70’s. All film - and black and white. I went into business in the 80’s, becoming CEO of a large company with 450 employees. Lots of stress and travel. Too much travel. So my wife and I opened a real estate company in a small ski town. I shot all my own photos, using a Nikon D40 to start. I retired this year after shooting all my own photos, video and drone work. I sold large ranches for the last 10 years. The work dealing with clients is one thing - and often VERY stressful because I was dealing with people’s asset - money. People can get very strange when it comes to their money, and rightly so. the other issue was having to learn Lightroom, then Photoshop then Final Cut Pro. And always there was more photography, paperwork, and video. And the client telling me their overpriced home wasn’t selling because I didn’t take a great photo of their backyard. Etc. Hours of photo and video editing. Could I have hired someone to do all the visual content work? Sure. But every time I did the work was not up to my standards. Drone work with their truck parked in front of the barn. Interior photos with the cat litter box on the floor in master bath. On and on. I simply did a better job. And when one spends 4 days filming a 9,000 acre ranch then it’s tough to pay someone to hang-out on that huge place for 4 days. So I did it myself. So now I am doing my best to get used to using photography and video to help a non-profit or two that can’t afford to pay a professional. I do my best to never take work from those who make their living doing these things. I work for the truly indigent. 😊 Good luck to you. And thank you for all your professional content! Jim in Oregon
