There is a practical effect of the use of relics and the intercession of the saints and that is that God then sets examples before us of people who lived holy lives.

I find all these refusal by non-catholics to acknowledge relics, the intercession of the saints, is a form of the ancient heresy of Gnosticism. It is an extension of the false theology of total depravity and the evilness of the created order.

It is very obvious that God has used and uses material things in his purpose to manifest his power. Sick people were healed when Saint Peter’s clothes were brought to them and laid on them. This is something every protestant must understand how it works. So, to say that it’s hard to some Protestants who are so spiritual that they totally neglect the material part but many of us believe what the Bible tells us of these things. I believe some protestants are negative to this because of being afraid of venerating material things instead of God. So was Saint Peter when he saw the vision of forbidden food and God wanted him to eat because what he has sanctified is not impure anymore.

Surely the bigger question is how can you possibly know any relics are genuine? There is absolutely no way to determine the truth of such claims and every reason to doubt them. Most relics came to light in the medieval period. They were and still are used as income generators for the church. Are you aware that whilst all relics once had to be authenticated by a cardinal or bishop (as if they possessed special knowledge) that is no longer the case and if enough people venerate a relic, the church will authorise it, without even investigating. There are many examples of multiple copies of the same supposed relic, all of them authorised by the Vatican. The whole industry is so clearly a scam. I accept that some Catholics need to be reminded of, or strengthened in, their faith and I suppose we should not be surprised that one method of achieving that is to encourage belief in something else that it is impossible to verify. Didn't Jesus say “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."? I think praying to relics for saintly intercession is a holdover of pagan talismanic worship, just as transubstantiation is a holdover of blood sacrifice.

  • @theoutspokenhumanist

@@CameronRiecker I understand you believe that to be true but those miracles themselves require validation and there has never been any verifiable evidence offered in support of any miracle. It has been said that if they could be explained, they wouldn't be miracles but that just presupposes every religious claim is true and that we shouldn't seek answers. Please understand, I am not attacking you or your right to believe whatever you feel is best but facts must always be more important than what we believe. The fact is that there is not one single relic or miracle that may be verified as such. The very reason all religions place such huge importance on belief is that none of them are supported by verifiable facts. Once you convince people to believe a claim without evidence, you no longer have to justify anything you assert thereafter.

That's a distortion of the story of the Hemorrhaging. Jesus didn't use the tassel of his cloak to heal her. Jesus didn't initiate the miracle; the woman did. Jesus describes the encounter as "power has gone out from me." Then asked who touched him because he didn't know.

➔ All the following Catholic things (and more) that Protestants attack as "evil" or "demonic" are HOLY THINGS IN THE BIBLE: ➔ INTERCESSION OF MARY & THE SAINTS, ➔ CARVED IMAGES IN THE TEMPLE OF THE LORD, ➔ HONOURING MARY, ➔ THE QUEENSHIP & ASSUMPTION OF MARY, ➔ MARY'S STATE OF PURITY ➔ AND BOWING AS A SIGN OF HONOUR AND RESPECT: (All copied from the protestant version of the bible by Cynthia X) ➔ Including proof that saints are not dead, They are sharing in eternal life with Christ. ➔ Saints are biblical. The protestant "reformers" are not. ➨ INTERCESSION OF MARY & THE SAINTS IN THE BIBLE ...INCLUDING BIBLICAL PROOF that SAINTS ARE NOT AMONG THE DEAD: The Protestant claim that we are forbidden to speak to / pray to Mary and the saints is NOWHERE in the Bible. In fact, the following scriptures were copied (by me) directly from the Protestant version of the Bible: ... ➨INTERCESSION OF THE SAINTS: ● REV 5:8 The prayers of the Saints are offered to Jesus the lamb. ➨INTERCESSION of a holy person on our behalf: ● JOB 42:8 8 Now therefore take seven bulls and seven rams, and GO TO MY SERVANT JOB, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and MY SERVANT Job SHALL PRAY FOR YOU, FOR I WILL ACCEPT HIS PRAYER NOT TO DEAL WITH YOU ACCORDING TO YOUR FOLLY; for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has. ➨INTERCESSION of MARY: ● JOHN 2:1 At the wedding feast at Cana, it was Mary who asked Jesus to help the wedding party. ➨The KING Honours his mother's request: ● 1 KINGS 2:20: Then she said, “I have one small request to make of you; do not refuse me.” And the king said to her, “Make your request, my mother, for I will not refuse you.” (Jesus is the Greatest King and he also honours his mother's requests) ➨SAINTS ARE NOT AMONG THE DEAD: AND THEIR INTERCESSION IS BIBLICAL: They share in the ressurrection of Jesus: (Protestants attack Biblical saints while they follow dead reformers) ● MATTHEW 27: 52 -53: When Jesus was raised from the dead Many were raised up with him. 53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. ● LUKE 23 v 39-43...Jesus told the good thief "today you will be with me in paradise" ● REV 19 v 14...when Jesus returns he will be accompanied by his heavenly armies of saints. ● 2 COR 5 v 8...Paul tells us that to be absent with the body is to be with the Lord. ● JOHN 11 v 25-26...Jesus said I am the ressurrection and the life, he who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives, believing in me will never die. ● LUKE 1619-30 The story of the rich man and Lazarus show The Rich man, Lazarus and Abraham, all concious and interacting with each other even though they have physically died. ● LUKE 9:30-31 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: 31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. (Moses & Elijah were alive, and were yalking with Jesus) ● REV 6:10 The souls of the martyrs are before the throne of God, crying out for justice. (they are conscious and actively petitioning God) ● HEB 12:1-3 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, ● MATT 17:1-13 ...At the Transfiguration of Jesus, he is seen speaking to Moses and Elijah, further showing that Holy ones of God are not among the dead. ● JUDE 1:14 Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints ➨HONOURING MARY AND MARIAN DOCTRINES IN THE IBLE: ● LUKE 1:24-48 All generations will call Mary blessed. ➨THE QUEENSHIP AND ASSUMPTION OF MARY IN THE BIBLE: ● REV 12:1 A great sign appeared in the heavens, a woman clothed with thge sun, themoon under her feet and on her head a CROWN (signifying a Queen) of 12 stars. REV 12 tells us the wiman who aooears in the heavens is the woman who gives birth to the male child who will rule the nations. (Mary) ➨ MARY'S STATE OF PURITY ● LUKE 1:24-48 The Angel Gabriel greeted Mary with: "Hail, full of grace (grace is the state of purity that God gives to human beings by which they are saved) the Lord is with thee" --------------------------------------------------------- Sacred Images are Biblical & mocking & destroying them is a serious sin, an act of blasphemy: ➨ SACRED IMAGES IN THE BIBLE: Sacred images are not idols and it is an act of blasphemy to attack them: ● EXODUS 25:18-22 God commands Moses to make STATUES of Angels. ● NUMBERS 21:8-9 God commands another image to be made, a serpent. ● EZEKIEL 41:18-25 KJV ➔ EZEKIEL's VISION OF THE TEMPLE OF THE LORD ADORNED WITH CARVED IMAGES: ... 18 And it was made with CHERUBIMS (ANGELS) and PALM TREES, so that a palm tree was between a CHERUB and EVERY CHERUB HAD TWO FACES; 19 So that the FACE OF A MAN was toward the PALM TREE on the one side, and the FACE OF A LION toward the PALM TREE on the other side: it was made through all the house round about. 20 From the ground unto above the door were CHERUBIMS (ANGELS) and PALM TREES made, and on the wall of the temple. 21 The posts of the temple were squared, and the face of the sanctuary; the appearance of the one as the appearance of the other. 22 The altar of wood was three cubits high, and the length thereof two cubits; and the corners thereof, and the length thereof, and the walls thereof, were of wood: and he said unto me, This is the table that is before the Lord. 23 And the temple and the sanctuary had two doors. 24 And the doors had two LEAVES apiece, two turning leaves; two leaves for the one door, and two leaves for the other door. 25 And there were made on them, on the doors of the temple, CHERUBIMS and PALM TREES, like as were made upon the walls; and there were thick planks upon the face of the porch without. ● 1 KINGS 6:23... ➔ Carved images of Cherubim (Angels) lions and other images in Solomion's temple: 23 For the inner sanctuary he made a pair of CHERUBIM (Angels) out of olive wood, each ten cubits high. 24 One wing of the first cherub was five cubits long, and the other wing five cubits-ten cubits from wing tip to wing tip. 25 The second cherub also measured ten cubits, for the two cherubim were identical in size and shape. 26 The height of each cherub was ten cubits. 27 He placed the cherubim inside the innermost room of the temple, with their wings spread out. The wing of one cherub touched one wall, while the wing of the other touched the other wall, and their wings touched each other in the middle of the room. 28 He overlaid the cherubim with gold. 29 On the walls all around the temple, in both the inner and outer rooms, he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers. 30 He also covered the floors of both the inner and outer rooms of the temple with gold. ➨ BOWING as a sign of honour / respect: ● JOSHUA 7:6: 6 Joshua & the elders of Israel tore their clothing and lay prostrate (face down on the ground) before the Ark of the Lord. (an OBJECT) ●1 KINGS 2:19 Solomon bows to his Mother. (a human being) ● JOSHUA 5:13-15 13 Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?” 14 “Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” Then Joshua fell FACE DOWN TO THE GROUND in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lord[a] have for his servant?” 15 The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.

think about this. *acts 3:1-16* not by their own power or "holiness"....these miracles were done to confirm who were the true servants of the one true God, teaching the true doctrine. the cloths, directly connected to paul, confirmed the message he was preaching. it was not paul's holiness, "wretched man that i am"..but the message of the gospel. mary, did not bring about the downfall of satan's kingdom. jesus does that alone. isaiah 63:3 i have trodden the winepress alone..... satan was not defeated by mary, a 14 year old girl. as for saint paul, the only help you receive from him to "get to christ" is written for us in his epistles. expecting to receive help by praying to any spirit other than God the father, in jesus name, is idol worship. john the baptist, no one greater, had to die, because jesus would not share his ministry with him, because of the weakness of the people. john pointed to jesus. Behold the Lamb of God.....who would trust that any relics of the saints, as they are called, are authentic, but it does draw crowds and has drawn much money. God confirmed the authenticity of elisha's ministry by that healing, a true prophet of God. elisha was known for a crazy amount of miracles done by the hand of God. *mark 16:20* then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the lord worked with them, CONFIRMING HIS WORD, by the signs that accompanied it. their holiness> the righteousness of God thru faith in jesus christ, imputed to them.

@@windyday8598 God works with us. We are persons made in the image of God. When the sin within us is cleansed and we reach 'sainthood', then we are able to reflect the glory of God. Just as God shared His Power to St. Michael an 8th ranked Angel to throw Satan (the 1st ranked and top Angel) out of heaven; then St. Michael was given that real power. Now every Catholic does know that when saints or their relics do such things (healings, miracles); that the source of that miracle is indeed God. @@39knights SAINTS: when we believe on the lord jesus christ our sins are washed away. whoever believes in the gospel of jesus christ and is born again has "reached sainthood", they are called saints in scripture, which is not determined by man or any majesterium, but by God alone. therefore, we are to grow in grace and reflect the glory of God . we will all fall short of that until jesus comes and glorifies us completely in himself. 2 thess. 1:10. RELICS: if a relic, supposedly from a saint, causes one to turn and expect that some form of holiness or grace can be received by it, from the saint, that is a form of idolatry. that form of worship or faith, usurps the preeminence of christ in spiritual matters. God seeks true worshippers, who worship in spirit and truth, not by idols, icons, or relics, be them authentic or fake. it is said that if all the supposed pieces of the cross were gathered together, one could build a complete cross, or a boat. veneration is a tricky word used to disguise the sin of idolatry. why was moses' snake on a pole ultimately torn down and destroyed? the people began to venerate or worship it, burning incense to it. *matt. 7:13*> enter by the narrow gate, for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. the Spirit gives life. let your requests be made known to God. philippians 4:6-7. >the narrow gate.

@@windyday8598 "...and is born again has "reached sainthood",.." Though there may indeed be living saints among us (Padre Pio, Mother Theresa being some examples); the reality is most Christians are lukewarm at best; and a very large number are CINOs (christian in name only). The first part of your comment is ambiguos; but I certianly hope you are not advocating for the false theology of Once Saved Always Saved (OSAS). "....that is a form of idolatry....." No it is not. That is your personal definition, and your hangup from a false theology not rooted in Christianity. The earliest records of Christianity showed fellow Christians would collect the bones of fellow Christians slain in the arenas and kept them as relics. Idolatry is treating or giving worship to somethng other than God, as if it was God. That is absolutely not what is being done with relics. Just as known holy-sites are famous for the miracles brought on by God's activity there (ie. Lourdes, Fatima, St. Anne de Beaupre, St. Joseph's Oratory, etc.); so too in a smaller way do relics become the site of God's known activity about them. For whatever reason known to God, does He choose to act via miracles or other signs at these distinct places or things. Kinda funny how protestants do not have such miracles or holy-sites; as if God is ignoring those who have apostasized. Yet we Catholics continue to pile up with miracles everywhere we go. Perhaps you should understand the passage that by their fruits you will know them.
