    I was first there in 92 and 93. Most people had portable generators at the front of their shops in saigon and hanoi. only cars were gov and a few company private ones. cyclos were still a common taxi and you get have one from 8am till 8pm for around 10k VND per day. It is amazing to watch the speed and development that has occured over that time. I don't know what is worse. The destruction of many heritage colonial style buildings.... or young vietnamese drinking blooding star bucks (what an insult to vietnamese coffee)

    I like and appreciate all your commentary about Vietnam in general. But I think you should research and do some discussion of what is seen by many scientists, that much of the south will be under water or consistently flooded during rains, do to climate change. I plan to retire there also, but I would never invest in a flood-prone area to build my house.

    For IT you gotta be in Saigon, that's where all the talents are

  • @tracyrreed

    @tracyrreed

    And talent is hard to find even in HCMC. The big telecoms etc scoop them up. But there also isn't much of a "hacker culture" in VN. So don't expect innovation. If you just want code monkeys you may as well also look at India where they turn out a lot more programmers. I'm not sure how they compare as far as required salary for experienced programmers. I was hired to manage a software development project in VN in 2005. It did not go well. The talent needed just wasn't there. Probably better now but I really don't know why you would look to VN for software unless it was dramatically cheaper than India. You know who I would talk to if I wanted to build a software team in VN? The guy who wrote "Flappy Bird". He is Vietnamese and innovative. Find out where he came from and find more like him.. Hey Ken, I'll be in VN next week! Until the 18th. I would love to meet up with you and discuss some ideas. I emailed you but never heard back.

    Appears your info [although good] is aimed at larger type corperations leaving out SME's like our company who's products are not high value like high tech that can afford extortionate fees and rents. I think a good video would be focussed on the more standard entrepeneur businesses such as SME's to reach a bigger and more practicle audience who could really benefit from your information. Our reluctuance of contracting with your company is due to the fear we would get less of a quality servce due to being a medium size entitiy. [no offence inteneded]
