This is What Happens When Two Bamboo Trains Meet on the Bamboo Railway

These trains run through the countryside around Battambang in Cambodia. They are an incredibly simple design and as the name suggest are made of a considerable amount of bamboo, which gives great strength for little weight. They run on the old railway lines that were built by the French when Cambodia was still a colony. So who gets right of way? Well the rule is the train with the most passengers gets right of way. However if a train is carrying a motorbike it has right of way over a train carrying more passengers. However everyone seems to take it in their stride and help each other out in taking the trains off the tracks.

Simple ingenuity at it's finest, two axles, a pulley, a motor and platform. I kind expected them to swap trains though.

@@geometricpanda5840 potential solutions would include two engines with each at opposing ends as it appears they drive better on the rear axle. This would allow for some redundany in one or the other engine breaking down which looks highly likely here!

Either way, it states there have to be more than just *one*. But I didn't call for any smart alecks to clarify the term for me anyhow. Sometimes it's best to leave a joke uncommented. Take a note.

@SicSemperEvelloMortemTyrannis TyrannyEnder Yeah, that's what happens after war. Europe took decades to recover from WWII, I'd wager south USA still has some issues seeing how I live there and, despite being more than a hundred years, the scars of war still exist in some minor ways. Tyrannical regimes never give power away voluntarily. There's always a fight, and the more they struggle, the more wounds they inflict on future generations. I'd say that the Khmir Rouge struggled quite a bit, seeing how many people still live in fear of their terrorist cells, corrupt government plants, or getting their legs blown off when they step outside because of a 30 year old landmine. We take safety for granted, so we should at least take pride in the fact that our fellow man is adapting despite their situation.

Go educate your helmet hair head, cell phones aren't prevalent there because it's one of the poorest nations in the world. I don't think that's it. The birthrate in the US is declining dramatically. I think it has more to do with in the US its survival of the fittest. Work for the machine and the better off you are. The more resources you have the higher up the ladder you get. Always usually making money for someone higher up than you. We work our life away. Here they simply work more for survival. Simple honest work and focusing on caring for family an such.

I agree, and I'm always amazed at how less fortunate people don't act like assholes in the same way we do in western countries. My wife grew up in a less fortunate country and her family are so friendly and helpful, to the point where I'm pretty much ashamed of how most of my family acts. But on the flip side, desperation and lack of education correlates with crime. Cambodia has relatively high murder rates for example. Interestingly enough, murder rates tend to not always correlate with wealth though.

If this were the US, first thing that would happen is an argument, then probably a fist fight, then the police will show up, the fire department and the railway police. Tickets will be given and you can bet someone is going to jail. The owners of the track would be called who will in turn sue everyone for using their track illegally. In the mean time, every train currently on that track will have to be stopped, this will also affect the recipients of the cargo this train is scheduled to deliver at a certain time, people are getting paid to do all of this and this affects the bottom line of every business associated with it, we all know this is also a reason to sue whoever you can to recoup money because companies are considered individuals and they have rights. See the mess you have when you live in a capitalistic democracy, and all you had to do was spend a little effort and help each other and get on with your life. Nobody was hurt.

What a thrill that has to be to cruise along in an open railcar enjoying a nice breeze at that speed! No signaling system or radio communication. No way this would be allowed in the USA as the FRA safety bureaucrats would flip their wigs! Amazing how smooth the trackwork is. Of course the weight of these rail cars is very light which helps in the roadbed and track not wearing out so quickly as they would under heavy diesel or steam powered locomotives.
