Watch me solve a question from paper 2 here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hqyM19Fypc68qLg.html If you watch my final conclusion at the end I say that this is a very difficult exam and I congratulate anybody who has attempted it. I did not mean to give the impression it is too easy. Good luck to all those studying for it!

Indian here, the very reason we aren't a technological powerhouse yet, in spite of having such a tough exam, is because students in our country are not taught to be engineers or not taught the subject. They are just taught the techniques for cracking this exam. I am in one such institution (FIITJEE) and I've already realized the number of flaws in their way of teaching. I might be wrong with my opinion, but this is what I feel. India is just producing really "high scorers" with just a small fraction of them actually becoming or doing something amazing.

You are saying this as an aspirant of Jee. The role of colleges and coaching classes are entirely different. Advanced is a tough paper for selecting the best engineering brains who are taught in the best institute of technology. If these engineers would have been so useless , the American companies would not be in line of hiring these skilled people and provide them "dream placements". On one occasion it evidently substantiates brain drain and intellectual labour supply from india. As Indians we need to come up with better infrastructure for keeping these talented individuals to India and help in the growth of the nation.

Wow. I’m from NZ and now I realise how simple our physics paper really is Oml. Although, all students have to do exams from different subjects. The full exam time for one subject is 3 hours long. Many students take 5 to 6 subjects and the exams take place from mid November to start of December. In each of the subjects they have to do about 2 to 3 papers for that subject which is basically different topics and complete them in 3 hours so about 1 hour for each 3 topics. Good luck to whenever Indian students are taking their next exams. Especially during this pandemic.

Believe me no foreign can even judge the difficulty level and pressure level of JEE specially if you are Male, General category then you have to score way more than your competitiors in order to get a decent college. Here for JEE many people dropout because there's no better alternative college if you don't get selected in it. And there's category reservations also so it's very hard to get good colleges if you are from General Caste or Male as you don't get any special quota or benefit for admission. And competition is way to more here that people are just fighting for every job vacancies.

Previously, the exam format of the IITJEE was different. I wrote (and cleared!) in 1986. There were three papers, one each in Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Each paper had Multiple Choice questions for 50 marks and problems requiring longer answers and all logical steps for 50 marks. The problems requiring longer answers had some choice, you could choose which questions to attempt, so you could choose these questions from your stronger topics. But you could not fool around with the longer answer type questions like you can do with multiple choice questions, you had to provide sound answers to the problems, each of which was only a tad easier than Olympiad level problems.

It's amazing that the real challenge we students face while giving this paper is not how difficult it is, but how competitive it is. Literally a million students register every year out of which atleast 300000 are enrolled in classes specifically preparing them for this very exam. And in the end only a handful few (10000) get into the premier engineering institute of India, the IITs and even fewer get the branch of their choice(around 2000 students)

Section one, Question one already caught me out of the loop (it requires to at least remember what Planck's constant *is* about, which I currently don't), so I started thinking about tactics, For sec 1, I'd recommend: 1) Read all the problems of the section. 2) If you can, with any degree of certainty, solve at least one of the problems, ignore all the problems you cannot. 3) If for any reasons, you have no certainty about any of the problems: Take wild guesses. The expected outcome is zero, but there is a non-zero chance that you net some points, and chances are for taking. ____ Rationale: a) Unless the designers have lied about marking, wild guessing should, on average, net zero points, but one might get lucky and score some. Therefore, step 1 to see, if 2 or 3 applies. b) As soon as one actually knows what one is doing in at least one problem, the effects of wild guessing in the other problems (which one has no idea about) might nullify one's hard work, and we do not want that. c) a and b are dependent, of course, on how many problems one knows their way around. I merely estimated the expected outcomes for 100 and 200 problems, and *then* saw that the actual number is Five. More rigor later, for right now, this one needs to hit the mat. Have a mathematical day and don't hesitate to scrutinize the approach, if you want to. PS: I should mention that the aim of this approach is to maximize potential score, regardless of actual knowledge in the field. To me this is an excercise in applying maths to reality, and see what happens.

Believe me nobody in the world can solve this exam without coaching . I was also pretty good student in my high school. I haven't gone to any coaching and directly goes for JEE mains. In JEE mains when I saw the question paper the mathematics section blows my mind . Somehow I managed to tackle chemistry and physics and got 102 and the cutoff was around 89. Then I goes for JEE Advanced and I slept the whole time only attends some chemistry questions and a few physics. Whichever question I tried I found out that all four answers are correct . Mathematics section was just alien for me.

The higher difficulty of mathematics from various countries can be rooted in the fact that poorer countries or larger population need to whittle down the prospective candidates for limited spots. No wonder India or China test on subjects that is a little too advance for highschool students versus college. But like you said, in the end it evens out.

I have myself cleared IIT JEE almost a decade ago. I feel it's unnecessarily made difficult. Actually, it's not difficult, it's rather out-of-course as she mentioned. Most of the things are taught in engineering first and the second year which they ask in the entrance exam itself. One important point she mentioned is that in NZ, the main work starts after the students join the universities. In India, this is something we lack. Those boasting the difficulty of the exam should also know India's or IIT's ranking in the world or the research output of IITs vs other universities in the world. Having a tough exam is not enough and neither is clearing it. I've myself cleared and has enough experience now to comment.

Tough exams are useless. No Indian has ever made a significant contribution to mathematics or physics in over 100 years. Exams encourage computational thinking, research requires creative thinking. Students from India ar usually very bad research scientists - they can follow textbooks but not think on their own. Very bad education system, worse than America.

The one comment where someone is not bragging about tough exams. Why do that kind of people even exist? Like they mostly go to coaching institutes where those institutes doesn't focus on concepts they only want their students to be capable of solving questions fast. They (so called aspirant) should know that they aren't learning or understanding the concept they are just getting used to the questions. That is why india hasn't achieved anything in the past.

well, IITs failed to produce any research output, so the IISERs were set up. Honestly I think IISc should just take control of the major institutions of the country, since that's the only college which has potential to rival Ivy League and MIT

  • @beactivebehappy9894

And there is a whole industry behind teaching (or "coaching" as they say) the aspirants for these exams... In which most of the time it is just mugging up derivations in the physics part.. which not most of them are capable to do so..
