It’s the negative space that makes it light and airy. Don’t know how you do that so effortlessly. Great painting. The splash of white makes it feel dreamy.

4:05 it's this point in your painting where a lot of what I have been doing ends up looking like, which is a very neutral looking painting that I am not happy with. Watching the rest of your video is where you start to add the value, the darks (and white highlights) that brings it to a different level. Thanks for sharing as it reminds me to be bold and not afraid with applying those darks to get a better range of value.

I’ve a habit that annoys me to no end where I judge the way people paint So hard Like, trust the process but no it’s so hard to just think “I would have done that differently” and let it sit and for me to learn from what I see that’s why I’m watching these sort of videos So though I wasn’t going to voice my odd thoughts on how the painting looked at the start (as if my own painting process wasn’t weird😂) I apologize for thinking them in themselves and would like to say that this is indeed a very nice painting and it makes me want to paint a river now Especially liked the way you handled the ripples under the boats I know that “perfect” is a difficult to use word but I feel like sometimes there’s such a painting that brings the maker so much joy that it deserves the word “perfect” and yeah I think then you’ve stated correctly

What was the difference between the white in your palette and the little drop that you used for highlights? I am guessing it is just a little cleaner but wanted to find out. I love the painting and love your videos. I have learned so much from watching them. 😊

Dear Niaz, I wonder why you mix colours with white instead of just using a more watery colour? Watercolour usually is brilliant by the white paper shining through the colour but by mixing it with white the colour has lost its transparency. Thanks for sharing it, anyway and greetzz

I guess that how i like to paint with watercolor. Depends on what and how you want the texture to be. In few areas i like bit opaque and sometimes use puddles it all comes down to personal preference at the end I believe. The world has shown us how to use watercolor now let us show the world the correct way😉

@matbohman The point of a sketchbook is that it shouldn’t be perfect - it’s for practice, and on the go art. So ‘perfect’ encapsulates this sketchbook perfectly. It’s not a museum piece; it’s art for the love of art.

Standards are lower these days in the West, while narcissism is on the rise. For nearer ‘perfect’ sketchbook pieces have a search for “EXHIBITION Shelter from the Storm: John Sell Cotman”

And this is the video I’ve been looking for said the efficient artist wanna be. Heretofore I thought I just don’t have the discipline. Just a deep desire. Recently put in steroid program to offset symptoms from a very rare bone disorder. Apparently only keorechauns can thrive in this dna hiccup mutant generation. It’s changed my life and revealed it’s not a man ability or flaw. It was energy level, clarity and belief.
