    He acctually went from 1st to 4th in the burnout. A jerico and a lenco trans are very different, a lenco had a separate case for each gear, it does have planetary gears. A jerico (which he had before this lenco) all the gears are in a single case and not a planetary gear design.

Don't make sense that's like saying everyone that punches into work at Walmart has to take a pee to make sure they're human or some shit what kind of logic is that all race car drivers have to shit before they go down the track to make sure they're not robots or to make sure they're light as possible to make it more faster to get more fans take off point 00001 seconds if the driver weight is half a pound lighter from taking a shit before they go. Your a big idiot is that to keep robots out of racing or what? I don't get it

    There are MANY classes that require NO electronics. Even this car has electronics in it. It has a delay box that all you do is let go of a button at the first sight of a yellow light, and it let's out the clutch for you. All you have to do is pull the levers when the shift light comes on. Simple. No different than any automatic with a manual valve body.

    I thought shutting off the engine right away was a hold over from the leaded fuel days, when you would shut the engine off right away so that you could get an accurate fuel mixture read from the sparkplugs. Driving the car back to the pits would screw up the read because the idle would be so rich from driving back. Leaded fuel would leave different deposits than the "clean" fuels of today. Just wondering.

  • @davelowets

    @davelowets

    3 күн бұрын

    Yep. Same deal here. It's called a "plug chop". You kill the ignition to the motor during full throttle after the pass, and read exactly what the plugs are telling you during full throttle, full power, that way. You are correct, idling back to the pits ruins the "read" on the plugs at full throttle. Edit: This practice isn't just for leaded fuel either. It's also done for unleaded. Same thing. All plugs will display a "read" on them, no matter the fuel. Except with Top Fuel Nitro engines anyway.... the plugs are completely consumed during a single pass, and the engine is dieseling by half track, and will NOT restart without new plugs installed. The pit crew goes through the entire engine after each pass anyway. So it's not an issue.

    So I read in lower comments that a single-stick transmission supposedly can't handle the power that you need for this. So are these sticks set up as one per "lane" of the transmission (I don't really know of a technical term for that)? And if so, then what would happen if you shifted them out of order, like started with the middle or right stick?

  • @wepner

    @wepner

    6 жыл бұрын

    It does have a shifter for each gear. U can shift them out of order but nothing will happen till u shift the next one in order... so if u try to go from 1 to 3rd nothing will happen till u pull the 2nd shifter back

    Not sure what setup he's using to release the pedal, there's several ways. I used an electro magnet to hold the pedal down with a delay box. He is using the button to launch the car, his foot is off the pedal & the delay box triggers the release of the clutch pedal. In this video he is running slower cars and releasing the button off their top bulb, delay box does the rest

    I love watching this car run when I'm up at New England Dragway. A couple of questions about the lenco. Would they survive well in street use, especially in traffic. Also since they use separate cases for each gear, could one in theory add an additional case backwards to use as a 5 speed overdrive?

  • @wepner

    @wepner

    Жыл бұрын

    The transmission is actually an ST1200 which is a STREET/ strip transmission. I’d say it would be great. the way the transmission works is for each case is a gear so yes you can just add a case and a shifter up to 6 speeds. They can help you with gear ratios at lenco.

  • @davelowets

    @davelowets

    3 күн бұрын

    You wouldn't have to use any one case or section "backwards". You can get each section with whatever gear ratio that you want. Want something less than 1:1? Just get the last one geared like that

  • @davelowets

    @davelowets

    3 күн бұрын

    It's actually a "stack" of seperate 2 speed automatic transmissions, all stacked together. The more gears you want, the more sections you stack together. Yes, it has a conventional clutch to get going, but once you are going you just pull the lever for each section to shift it. It would be VERY similar to putting a clutch on a regular automatic transmission. You'd need to use the clutch to start and stop, but it would shift gears just like any other automatic would, without using the clutch

    10 years later…. No he is going 1st to 4th. The farthest right lever forward is 1st. All of them back is 4th. All forward is first but the way it works is in sequence so you can’t “jump” a gear. Rip lever 1 back for 2 second lever back is 3 third lever back is 4 but if all are back except the first one as soon as he pulls that back to be second gear it is already engaged to 4th because the second and third are back. Just watch it a few times you’ll catch it 😊

    He used to run Super Stock with a pretty high-strung motor which needed immediate shutdown to keep the engine safe. Force of habit just carried over to this car. Might be checking the plugs after each run too so that would necessitate that as well.
