The biggest disappointment for me by far is the absence of Dressel, Peaty and Milak, not just because we didn't get to see them compete, but also because it's sad to see world class athletes struggling with mental health. We fans see them perform at the highest level and smash world records, but we don't see the struggle behind and the sacrifices they make in order to be at their best and the toll that the pressure takes on them. We just hope they find peace and happiness in their life, that's the most important.

I thought the Women's 400 Free between Titmus, Ledecky & Mcintosh would be more competitive/come down to the wire. I had been looking forward to that race and the fact that Titmus ran away with was a slight disappointment. And then I wouldn't say I was disappointed but more surprised that Lily didn't make the medal stand...left me wondering if she just had a bad meet (but have never know her to have a bad meet), or is age catching up with her?

Hey Cody! I heard about your mistake with your arms at the start and I might have a trick that works: I suffered this too, but I discovered that if you start to move your head to breathe before the hand reaches the extension, you will develop a beautiful stroke. And you don’t have to worry, because your other arm which will be under your body won’t allow your head to come out of the water until that arm is fully extended. So after this, you might even have time to put your head back completely underwater, with that arm still perfectly extended. I hope you understood this, for I’m just 13 years old haha.

I think the double would have been possible for him this year if the events had bookended the session or something. Cook the schedule to let phenoms swim! Lol Though at the moment, can we think of someone else who has a world class 200 breast AND 200 fly? (Only Daiya Seto comes to mind)

I was also very disappointed to see leon scratch on the 200 breast. I watched his french nationals races and was thinking exactly what you were saying with him being unshaved and still going that fast. I think he would have won of Qin. Leon is IMO the best swimmer in the world right, and I believe he could excel in more events, such as maybe the 400 freestyle or 200 freestyle, if he puts more time into them. There is a clip of Bob Bowman saying Leon went 4:19 in a 500 scy in practice from a push, so I believe he has potential for mid distance races, other than the IMs.

Possibly the quick turnaround, or the Aussies first day deflated team USA.

Breaststroke technical rules have been corrupted over the years, and we're now paying a price in disqualifications. Aaron Peirsol said that Kitajima cheated by doing a dolphin kick in his underwater pull-down. That was during the 2004 Olympics. The argument then became that doing a dolphin kick was a natural response to the arm pull so instead of enforcing the rules more strictly, the rules were changed to allow a dolphin kick, but only after the hands had separated. That rule changed further so the swimmer could do a dolphin kick at any time during the underwater pull. Everybody figured out that doing the dolphin kick while still in a streamlined position was the speediest strategy. But doing a dolphin kick while still streamlined bastardizes the historical concept of breaststroke, i.e. the swimmer is generating propulsion using a kick other than the breaststroke kick. Additionally, doing the dolphin kick while still streamlined destroys the original argument that a dolphin kick is only natural to the pull-down arm pull. FINA and USA Swimming need to get their act together and either eliminate the breaststroke altogether (not my vote), or quit allowing for such radical technical rule changes. Another problem with these plus other even more radical rule changes is that they disallow time comparisons between breaststrokers of today and those of earlier years. Backstroke starts is another example of corruption in the rules with the start wedges. Why use the wedges when a swimmer could simply curl his toes over the edge of the pool? The rules originally required feet to be completely submerged so that swimmers would have nothing to hook their toes on. That was in long course. In short course, a swimmer could hook his feet over the edge, back in the day.

After this video, and the comment about trying to return your head to center after a breath before engaging your next pull, i went through hundreds of competition vids and can't find one swimmer who does this. After further consideration, you're advocating for catchup freestyle as the correct form. Unfortunately, it reduces the efficiency boost you get from using your arm entry to return your head to the center position and forces an unnatural head jerk

Leon will likely swim the 200 breast in the olympics because it does not interfere with either the 200IM or 400IM. On the other hand he won't be able to swim the 200 Fly because it falls on the same day as one of the IM event. This might actually be OK since Milak will be back and I don't see anyone beating Milak at his best in the 200 Fly.

Comparing Daiya's single wall to Max's obvious downward kick on every single kick is just not the same. There might be natural movement on an underwater because his legs go past horizontal before he pulls down, which is why they come back to horizontal. Should it be fixed, probably. Is it the same as Max and you and others deliberately doing an extra downward kick on breaststroke? Absolutely not

It's puzzling how someone could get annoyed with me swimming beside them more than 12 times per 50m. A lot of frustration for some waves and stressful environment.
