I am a 50 year old man that loves playing the HZD games. Your insights into the game and its mechanics has helped me really understand what is happening and I therefore have enjoyed FW so much more than I first was. Your videos are well thought out and very well presented. You use your voice well. I am impressed at how you have put your channel together and it's growth.

I recommend to swap your sprint and slide/Crouch button. I use square to sprint and L3 to Crouch/slide since you will be spiriting more than sliding and it's easier to start running again after a slide with a square button.

I use the advanced controller and have copied the L3/R3 functions to the triggers on the bottom. That way I never have to press the sticks. Works far better.

Sliding is such a fun mechanic when aloy doesn’t get stuck on things most of the time I don’t need to roll I just slide past a machine and it feels so badass to do. Sliding down steep slopes is also a lot of fun to do.

Ypu can also slide toward an unsuspecting ennemy and silent strike it right after it notices you. Peak high risk/high reward gameplay.

I'm definitely going to need to practice this. It is so aggravating when I slide during combat and end up crouching. Truly thankful for these tips Arktix!

First off, intro is amazing XD It does feel like that sometimes, getting whacked around like a ping pong ball. One thing I noticed, though, is that when talking about Evader, you didn’t mention one little thing that I am personally a big fan of. Another nice thing about the slide dodge roll is that you can change directions by sliding in one direction and then rolling in another, which is especially useful against multiple enemies attacking you.

Man I've learned a lot from you since I started playing Horizon. By now I'm sitting at 3rd place for HFW Burning shores ultra hard speedrun in the leaderboards, and I'm happy to say that I'm a serious contender for the world record. Your video of the new duplication glitch (and more specifically the super glide glitch and the glide jump technique ) was specially useful to achieve that, so I just want to express my gratitud and appreciation for you work. It's also cool that I figured the slide roll through trial and error because it really was the fastest way to get around pre-flying mount. This may be long, sorry. As always,,, love the vids, thank you. Ok, this is something I find useful at times, very situational maybe, but I noticed that when you slide, if you jump, when you land you will be back to sprint. I don't use auto sprint. So I tried to slide the second I landed from the jump. It works great! Slide, jump, slide, jump. It seems to give you the fastest slide you can get, and the interesting part is that you can change your direction in air and slide that way when you land. Even a complete 180. You do have the jumps hang time as a down side but for smaller machines, the jump can act as a dodge. Side note, Tide's reach, raiders in tower. I did a glide in, went to hit a smoke bomb to give me time to bolt blast the first guy, accidentally had it set to mount. Imagine my surprise when a pissed off fire clawstrider showed up. Now I always land at the chest and watch the fun!

Thanks! And nice! Yeah I've played around with that jump-slide as well. Considered adding it in this video, but I think it's more niche and more difficult to do, so I decided not to because I didn't want to distract/confuse people, but it's definitely a nice trick!

You can also chain the regular Dodge immediately out of the slide, wasting no time and, when mastered, extending the invulnerability frames to 25.

I don't really know how to put it, but you've inspired me to attempt HFW content, I've been watching your videos for quite a while now and wanted to try content creation for myself 👍

Thanks for the help I knew I wasn't trippin when I prefer the dodging in the first game and onthis game I felt I was getting hit all the time.

I feel like the DualSense Edge controller with the back buttons (especially the half-dome ones) would help out with the sprint activation. Using the left back button instead of L3.

yup. this is also very useful if you like to play with traps. sliding or dodging into a trap (except blast traps) will trigger it without hurting Aloy because of the invincibility frames. you can do this if you want to set off a trap without stepping back to shoot it then following up with combos with your warrior bow. I usually run-slide towards the trap for faster approach then dodging into the trap to set it off.

Thanks! And the green dye for Queen outfits should be unlocked by default. You just need to go to a dyer.

I used the sprint slide sprint in HZD and just carried it over to HFW. I use it all the time but I didn't know ot gives you so many advantages.

Nice! Yeah it does have quite a few advantages.

From a mention in one of your earlier vids, my normal mode of foot travel is sprint-slide-roll - so much better than Aloys general sprint speed! Definitely takes some finesse in the heat of battle to not get stuck in a crouch though... As a fellow auto-sprinter, I'd much rather finish with square than a stick press (just hitting fwd on the stick to auto sprint doesn't bring her out of crouch unfortunately), as avoiding that is my whole motivation for auto setting

Great video as always. Have a question for you, Phantom Liberty DLC is coming to Cyberpunk... Do you plan on picking up the game considering everyone's saying it'll be a completely different game.

Glad you're finding the videos helpful! And I hope you're enjoying the game 😁 Are you clicking the left stick to come out of the slide? If so, it should work. There has not been a patch that changed this. Turning on auto-sprint might also help.

Hi Arktix, I would like to ask about the spreadsheet. In the sheet it says that two each of the legendary instant burning chance and legendary instant corroding chance coils can be bought from merchants, but the subsequent columns say that there is only one each you can buy from merchants. is this a mistake? or am I missing something?

0:23... Who felt uno reversed how robots do us dirty with our traps

Problem with this is if you have auto sprint on it doesnt cancel the crouch after sliding, meaning you're open to an attack when enemies have already spotted you. Not a problem if you dont use auto sprint, but us folks who dont want to go through controllers that quick by breaking the L3 button kinda have to spam square after a slide and hope she stands back up to run >.

Maybe I didn’t make it clear in the video, but I play with auto-sprint on 100% of the time. This absolutely works with auto-sprint on. I recorded all clips for the video with auto-sprint on. Auto-sprint will not make you sprint out of a crouch. So, yes, you will need to click L3 as if you don’t have auto-sprint on. If you’re not used to doing that, this might take some getting used to, but it does work.

The only problem is sometimes I didn’t manage to sprint and i will end up crouching

Glad you liked this even though you're waiting for PC! There WILL be a PC release. No announcement yet, but they're definitely working on it. I'm hoping for a release this holiday season, but it may happen in 2024.

Arktix you can get quick draw on sharpshot bows by sliding btw I've said this multiple of times you slide trigger concentration and draw the bow rlly fast but it has to be the sec you slide

This channel is so excellent. The tutorials and guides are my go to, however, I'm disappointed at the changes to movement, control and character progression that they made to this game. Rather than feel like an extension to zero dawn, at times it feels completely different game, just with dome carry over story...

@@ArktixOfficial Wow, thank you for taking the time to reply. If I'm honest, if I'd not found your channel I may have just passed on the game. As you say, the removal of some of the skills from the skills tree is unfathomable. For me, I really enjoyed the stealth build in ZD (although I maxed out the trees long before the end game) so losing the ability to whistle to attract enemies, the stealth indicator, strike from below etc just made no sense. I get that with a new game carry over from the previous game can affect balance but when I'd invested time in 100% completion, to find that at the start of the new game, Aloy had not only forgotten to pack all the awesome gear I'd gathered, but had forgotten some basic skills like the aforementioned ones and even what enemies looked like (rescanning everything) and how to override them, I felt very disenfranchised. Like I say, I get that it's a new game, with potential new to the franchise players but I would have appreciated some meaningful carryover of save data, after all, a new game plus is effectively that within the game, perhaps with a difficulty scaling applied and new enhanced skills for the new weapons.... I almost wish they'd used a different protagonist as the excuse for starting from scratch, but that would have presented it's own difficulties with story arch. But hey, I'm just mouthing off, I don't get paid to make those decisions and the game has undoubtedly been a success, so what do I know? 😄 Anyway, thanks for the time and attention you've put into these invaluable guides. I'm currently maxed at lv50 and have switched to easy to harvest the parts for the legendary kit (such a ball ache) before completing the final mission. I feel I'm missing a few side missions as I've not maxed the skill trees and R1 abilities but I've got all those I care about. I've not done all the races or Strike games so that might be the missing points? I hope you get some recognition by Gorilla for this work you've done. Way better than the Prima guides of old.

@@TheTruthHz Strike From Above/Below still exists in the game, but they've been adjusted so it only works on unaware/suspicious enemies so you can no longer use them in active combat like in HZD

@@jeffreychinn609 I've seen the strike from above prompt when gliding and less frequently when standing on an edge but I've not once seen the strike from below prompt. In HZD you were able to stealthily climb something to the transition point and as the target approached that point you could strike. I've tried in vain to recreate this in HFW. What's the trick? You do you maintain stealth if you can see when you're not visible?

It's to bad they messed up with the PC controls and you can't auto run like you can on controller. Really messes up this style of slide dodges.

Actually, you can still do this on keyboard and mouse. You still have a crouch and sprint button, so it’s basically the same as controller. Maybe a little trickier depending on what keys you bind for those.

@@NeillSmith There is toggle sprint though, which is all you need. I mean, I agree it's a bit trickier on keyboard (I have done it a.bunch), but it's still doable. You just use your crouch key to slide and then have a key mapped to toggle sprint. You don't need to hold a key to sprint.

HFW dodging is defo frustrating, it can make the combat feel cheap and unfun.

I stopped playing and I was just at the beginning. The combat in this game is just far too infuriating for me to enjoy. It's like they buffed all the bad stuff and nerfed all the good stuff from the first game. I guess I will also skip the new GoW as I read it basically follows the same pattern.

I’ve now mostly passed on from HFW because if don’t everything in the game and there is really much to do I also have completely finished Elden ring I’ve done all the achievements but for Elden ring I’m waiting for Shadow of the erdtree now I’m playing Diablo 4

There is no dodge in HFW, just a slide and a roll. And just because there's an option to slide doesn't mean the roll should be useless garbage.

Guerrilla shouldn’t have taken out Dodge Prowess as the game does not have a Poise system like Dark Souls. You get knocked down from any attack which is sad. This is bad game design.

I'm surprised people are even still making content for this game. It's like old news now.
