    In my home, we keep an eye out for wandering spiders, known here in Brazil as "armadeiras" (armah-day-rahs) because of the position they assume when they attack. These spiders are amazingly fast and may be hidden on any small space. It isn't uncommon during summer that I find at least once one of these "beauties" hidden under my drawers or couch. How do I deal with it? A broom buds, a good old broom.

    1:22 the other two legs are called antenniform legs and they do exactly what they sound like they do. For a nearly blind animal that lives in darkness, it's pretty easy to imagine how useful it would be to be able to feel all of your surroundings from a safe distance. They also use them to locate prey and even to coax that prey to walk closer. 2:00 Pretty sure they actually construct a spermatophore which the female can pick up and use or save for later. They young also live on the mother for a few molts before leaving when they're ready. They're also completely harmless, have no venom, cannot spin webs, and tend to be surprisingly docile. They're honestly awesome.

    He left out the most terrifying thing about the Wandering Spider species from Central and South America. If you are male and you get bit, you may experience a particularly uncomfortable side effect called priapism- i.e. a painful erection that will not go away. To treat this doctors will either directly inject drugs into the penis, or they will manually deflate the penis by removing the blood with a needle and syringe. I don't know where you live, but most likely the spiders you'd find in your home are mostly harmless. But as climates warm, I'd imagine spiders that typically hug the equator will range much, much further north. I'd recommend becoming familiar with which spiders are dangerous and which are harmless, because climate change is about to shake everything up for everyone in a few short years.

  • @Fuzen.

    @Fuzen.

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@choronos That’s sound advice indeed. In the meantime, assuming that any species you aren’t familiar with is potentially dangerous is a fair survival habit too. Still… I had heard about these so-called side effects, but not about the treatment. That was physically painful to read.

    Citing an imaginary character is probably not the best argument. Also, that seems like a very pseudo-deep statement, because what does it even mean? If you are ready to die, you can go on a rampage? I've heard suicide bombers follow that rule as well, and I'd rather not see imitators of that behaviour.

In a way, it’s blaming those who think that they can take lives without ever having to answer for their actions. Also, who cares if it’s from a fictional character ? When you consider Platon’s Socrates, he is no more real than a purely fictional character since he only exists through Platon’s writing. (And Aristophane’s Socrates for instance would be an entirely different character.) Still, the dude had a few points that we can’t just dismiss because “he’s imaginary”.
