    @@AdamTanPercussion There were definitely pros and cons to playing the piece. One major pro, the piece is a HUGE crowd pleaser and it is fun to play from start to end. One major con, it takes a lot of time to learn, and since so much time is dedicated to this piece (at least for our ensemble), it was hard to also learn and master the other pieces for our concert and recitals. I’m super glad we pulled it off, though!

    The absolute scale of Collide is ridiculous. You can talk about how difficult it is all day, and that's what most people tend to do with pieces like this, but just the resources required to perform the piece are just as difficult to put together. You need 6 5 octaves when some universities don't have more than 2, let alone a high school in like in this video. And on top of that all the other various instruments you need for it, you also need 17 people in the ensemble just to have the parts covered. There's a lot of high schools in the US that are lucky if they have 17 total percussionists in their program, let alone 17 at this level of ability. That's arguably almost as hard to come by as multiple 5 octaves owed by the one school.

  • @AdamTanPercussion

    @AdamTanPercussion

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes... I think if a school is serious enough to get all of that gear and foster a culture where players like that will take a piece like that seriously, then they are certainly a school that cares about music education very much :)

    dang i left university and i wasn't as good as those highschoolers. don't even think I could perform some of those part that confidently and as accurate as some of them. i was lucky to have a small studio of 4 people and had a lot of lessons with my professor. but big ensembles like this was not possible. but we did join another university to play ionization and steve reich drumming which was a blast with all that phasing.

    Great find but I'd REALLY appreciate if you didn't feel the need to speak sooooo much. This is an excellent performance of a technically difficult piece, and they played it with feel. I appreciate hearing music that doesn't sound or feel like it's coming off a sheet of paper. Please, just let the music roll. The less you interrupt it, the more legit whatever you say will be taken. Thanks

    Thanks Chad, but like I've said in all my videos, if you want to watch the video without my commentary you can always just watch the full video in the description. The whole point of me making these types of videos is for me to comment and find discussion points about them, otherwise I'm just plagiarising people's videos which is very unfair to them. I'm more than happy to know that you'd rather watch the performance over my commentary so go support them please :)
