@@chrislake6001 yes it is. they didn't make a huge headline out of it. many poeple didn't notice it. the asteroid is called "2019 OK" impact energy would have been 50 megatons. they often make stupid comparisons to the Chelyabinsk meteor and the tunguska event because they are the last well known big events. but these are peanuts compared to an impact of 2019 OK. thank god it didn't hit.

I will never forget. Last year during April’s meteor shower I remember watching all these tiny-small meteors and all of a sudden... a huge blue fireball streaked through the sky, I thought I was gonna die. It was a scary sight

The others were tiny little streaks through the night sky, this thing looked like Ryus blue hadouken!! No joke it was scary

@Jayo Delaware There's A Group Of Retired Aerospace Engineers, Former Astronauts And Astronomers Who Are Part Of An Organization Called B612 Their Goal Is Too Create A Series Of Observational Space Telescopes Dedicated Solely To Spotting And Categorizing Asteroids And Large Meteors That The Minor Planet Center And The Near Earth Object Group Miss

Its a trip that these big space rocks are not SOLID they CAN be piles of small rocks CLUMPED together to form on solid LOOKING piece.

If only we could redirect all the asteroids to a black hole.

This meteor was just a friendly warning, call it an close encounter, call it what ever you feel comfortable with, this was a warning and if ignored will have horific consequences for future.

Yep. But an impact with the ISS is not likely. For two objects to occupy the same space at the same time in the huge expanse of space is highly unlikely.

A 10 meter meteor would no accumulate the damage made by the Hiroshima explosion. The Cheljabinsk meteor had a size of 20 meter and nothing really happened with regards to Hiroshima.

Sheesh! That’s a cheery message.

Most certainly this is the gravest danger to humanity and all living things on Earth. Asteroid impacts have happened before to our planet multiple times and it is only a matter of time before it happens again. We should be focusing all of our efforts on formulating a defense to combat these threats and also working towards settling other planets as currently we have a single point of failure and we should look at ways to ensure the survival of humanity should the worst happen. Its also interesting to consider that we may have little to no warning of a potential impact as the asteroid may be hidden by the Suns luminescence if it approaches from that direction.

Apophis will pass within 19000km's of Earth when it hits the moon, killing us all on Friday 13th, 2029 (on Good Friday). If it just hit Earth directly, the only worry would be who's city gets rubbed out. Unless of course it is a mostly metal asteroid. Its size is said to be about 370m in diameter (about a 100 feet less than a quarter mile). The Chicxulub impactor was 6 miles across of rocky aggregate... maybe.

Asteroids are mostly spinning high velocity solitaire objects, and yet they are always depicted in close proximity with other asteroids, just hanging around peacefully.

Hate to be that guy but a study was done and found that an asteroid hitting the water would not be harmful at all. Has something to do with kinetic energy being dispersed and most of the energy would go into vaporizing the water. There’s a really cool simulation of what it would be like
