This is the equipment I take with me when I go buy a broken riding mower.

This is the equipment I take with me when I go buy a riding mower that does not run. What you need to be a one man riding mower recovery team. I just want to show what I take with me. I also show the tractor I just purchased and fixed. The guy who sold me this tractor made a comment about me being a one man mower recovery team and it sparked the idea to make this video. I'm excited that I got this tractor fixed and fully functional the next day. It's a great machine at a great price. I find deals like this all the time on craigs list and offer up.

I bought a scotts that had a seized mower clutch last summer. I bought it for $50. I changed the bearings in the clutch, even though they're not replaceable. Clutch disc was like new. Bearings cost me a whopping total of $8. I pressed them out on the press, pressed in New ones and peaned them in there like the factory does. I saved myself $200 for a new clutch. It's now my personal mower for home.

I got a FreeCycle electric winch and I use that to pull dead equipment up into my Chevy Astro. That way flat tires or non-starting engines don’t matter. Got 4 tractors so far - all free. Also got several free snowblowers I pulled up into the van with the winch. Most homes have an electrical outlet within 100 feet of the driveway so I carry that much electric cord.

That is something Iv been wanting to do. A man came by one day and Purchsed a old junky parts tractor and he had a small ATV size 12v winch mounted in the bed of his truck close to the cab. He fliped a switch and dried it right into the truck. I need to add that to my project list. I’d like to use the 12v type so I can wire it to the truck battery power and be ready to go just in case electric plug in is not close by. But I never even considered that Orion so it’s something to think about. Thanks for the idea.

Woodchuck Russ the Deck Dr You bet! I ran a rope several times around the rear legs of my front seats and through a heavy stainless ring. I leave that in place all the time and connect the hook of my winch into the ring when I set up for loading or unloading equipment. This works well for me because I can remove the winch when I use the van for other things. I would have used a strong carabiner but all I had on hand at the time was the ring.

Hey, Russ! Update on my winch setup. I now have the winch mounted (but easy to remove) vertically on a vertical support post on one side of my garage workshop. I run the cable through pulleys to a central pulley on the horizontal support beam. I use this for lifting heavy machines into position onto a rolling table to work on at a convenient height. I have the winch mounted this way so I can readily remove it to my van when I need to pick up or deliver equipment. This way the same winch does double duty. That said, the hassle of extra electric cords takes more time to set up, plus the added time involved in removing and reinstalling the winch in my workshop, so I'm on the lookout for a used winch like the one you described, to install in my van. I'll probably do the same temporary mounting in the van with a wired connection mounted under a seat to plug in the winch so I can get it out of the way when necessary. I'll probably use the same kind of connection used for towing trailers.

What state you in ?? Why do you mess with mostly home owner tractors ?? Fix them up to flip ??

Grasspro - home owner models are more abundant and quick and easy to deal with. And most fit in the bed of a truck. I can fit more smaller tractors in my small shop. Rather than a few larger tractors. And many times the home owner tractors are sold cheep because most home owners don’t want to deal with a broken mower. Commercial equipment tends to be more valuable even broken. And way harder to move around a large commercial tractor that does not run. Same reason I quit working on and flipping used cars and trucks.
